I joined this site year ago and I thought this site was very cop friendly. But in the last couple of years I has definitely changed. It seems like every other thread turns into a "fuck the po-po" thread.

Just out of curiosity, but why? I always thought that we were on the same side. I don't consider myself any better than anyone else here or anyone else I deal with. When o go to the range I always get along with everyone and I always help anyone out that needs help. So what gives? I know there are assholes everywhere and I'm pretty sure that most people have had a bad incident with the Police, but to take a ba experience and to come here and bash every cop is rediculous.

The same pussies that bash cops in general are the first to whimper on the phone to call one when their pecker is in the vise.

If you don't like cops. consider your life or the life of your loved ones without them. I thank them for their work when I see them.

BTW, some of the cop bashing here is among law enforcement guys and their friends in a sarcastic, kidding manner.

I haven't seen it here on this site to the extent that you mention. I do see varying degrees of criticism and critical thinking, though.

Performing the job of law enforcement officer ain't what it used to be: accountability is much higher than ever before, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Some officers are not used to criticism, don't take criticism well, and have trouble justifying their actions. They are in the minority, even here.

This site, unlike some others, is not a mutual admiration society for cops. But I, too, would like to think that no one here hates them.

I don't agree. There have been threads on some bad cops, just like bad mechanics, lawyers, doctors, Indian chiefs. There are bad people everywhere and you will usually hear ONLY the bad. I think you hear the good as well as the bad on this site. I personally think this site is very pro LEO.

But seriously, I respect all Leo's, for what they do, and the sacrifices they make, to keep us all safe.

But there is another side to that coin; call it the "Blue Wall" or an "Us vs Them" mentality, that is sometimes, but not always, is displayed by those that carry a badge for a living. What you're seeing is a personal reaction to that circumstance and attitude.

Sometimes, but not often, a LEO forgets it is "We the People", not "Conan vs the Barbarian Horde". And sometimes "we the people" remind them of that concept with more vigor than may be necessary.

Perhaps we civilians really don't understand, what a Cop goes through just to make it home everyday. But I'm for one willing to learn, if someone is willing to teach....

Just my thoughts, not any reflection on any present or past LEO that posts on these pages.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but that is the vibe that I get from here. I'm all for criticism and accounability. I'm still one of the young cops so I never experienced the old way of doing things. We have cameras on our patrol cars and I actually like them because it keeps us cops honest.

Bob, the only way to teach you what it's like is for you to strap on a vest, a gun belt and get out there and do the job. TV shows, stories or internet forums just don't put things in perspective.

That being said, aside from a few posters on here I don't feel that this place is all that anti cop but I haven't been here that long either.

The problem with police is that just like every other profession theres the 1% that give them a bad name.

But as a whole police are very professional...but most folks only meet them when going through a negativee experience.

Out of all the interactions/tickets etc.. I've ever gotten They've all been nice and cordial/professional/ and sometimes friendly.

Only once has it gone over the top and that guy was forced to have a camera in his car and eventually was fired....And he deserved every bit of it and more.

I have seen a few threads go south with a few frothing-at-the-mouth cop haters jumping in every now and then. For the most part, the people on this website are pro-police and pro-military but not always. I have noticed that the anti-police rhetoric tends to come from the same 8 to 10 individuals and the complaints/arguments/allegations are always the same old shit.

One of the guys I shoot with is a regular poster on this site...a lot more than me....and we shot the Tiger Valley 4-Man tactical match with a co-worker of mine...who once wrote the other guy a ticket! How's that again? That's right, a guy here on Sniper's Hide (who is not a cop) shot on the same team with a cop who wrote him a ticket....and the two of them got along just fine.

I'm not sure if everyone here would be that cozy with the poe-leese but the truth is that most people on this site are not mindless anti-police assholes even if there are a few floating around here somewhere.

I gotta agree that this site is very cop friendly. I don't remember the last "hate the police" thread and I, like a lot of us, live on this site. LOL In fact, I'll give you a nice Cop story. I got pulled over in the Yoop this past summer. I know there are like 5 cops total for an area the size of jersey. Anyway, I was driving a rented Expedition and wasn't wearing my seatbelt. HAhahaha, this cop past me and whipped around and pulled me over so fast I couldn't believe it!!! LOL I have like a half of dozen FOP cards from everybody from a local cheif of police, to LT at the prison. I didn't even bother to use them to get out of the ticket. This Cop had to be the absolute NICEST person I have ever got pulled over by. LOL, seriously, it was ridulous how nice he was as he gave me the ticket. The whole time i kept thinking how his method would go over here at home (jersey). I wouldn't say he was a young kid either, just a downright nice fellow. Being nice does go a long way.

Cops, bankers, IT workers, clerks, crab fishermen, etc.
They're all people.

Therefor you will always see a mix of personalities in the profession, running the gamut from amiable to asshole of year.

No one here hates cops because they are cops, but some do hate cops because they've had dealings with some who are assholes.

The other two had a pleasant experience with a cop and they like them.

Back in the 80's when my wife and 4y/o son were thrown to the ground, guns in their faces and both of them cuffed because they weremistaken for a woman 50 pounds heavier with no kids, I hated police for years. They followed her when she was walking to the store and basically harrassed her. When I got back home from out of state school, I caught it happening one day so I called out the officer that was doing it. After that when they were convinced she and my kid were a huge mistake we got an apology.
After we got to Hawaii, it went away. I was able to take all LEO's individually. One piece of shit ruins the whole pot of milk. Like any job though, LE has it's 1%ers.
Like any job, we take each individual on a personal basis, and try not to let individual bias into it.
If you take a hard look, it's only a few asshats with a bad attitude toward our LEO members. For those guys I say,"fuck You, I know for a fact several LEOs here are damn good people, stand up motherfuckers so shut the fuck up"

I have worn a badge and a gun (no vest was issued); I did a stint with the Armed Forces Police, but that was along time ago, in a county far away. I also did drug interdiction missions. Boardings are not a fun exercise. Look at my military signature....

What I meant was by "learning" is; don't just dismiss (and I don't mean YOU personally) our criticism and say we'll never understand. Yes, we will if you explain it. But if you just say to any critique "they'll never friggen understand", you right we probability won't (again not that you said that).

It all comes down to attitude. Just like when your questioning someone. If they are respectful and differential, to you as a LEO, and answer your questions politely and completely; then I presume you act accordingly. Contra-wise, if someone is hostile, and disrespectful I can presume you also act accordingly.

So too here. I can understand and respect what you do. I don't have to strap on a gun and a vest to realize that you have a tough and dangerous job. And courts, lawyers and ROE's that make it tougher.

We civilians do have the capacity to understand, if not fully appreciate, your rigors. Just take the time to explain.I know it is more work, but you do have allies. Just use them and us.

Your not wrong at all. I have spoke with several members on the phone about it lately. It does usually come from the same sources. Its like there is a disturbance in the force, like when Shaggy drags his teeth or something, I just cant put my finger on it.
I think most are from the younger, just out of, or maybe still in high school, group.

I was actually shocked when I recently when on vacation to the motherland to visit my parents where I spoke with a bunch of people who had come here or lived here for a while. Every single one of them told me that the Police in the US, in General, are by far the most professional Police Officers they have ever met in their lives. I couldn't believe it. I heard the stories about the Police Officers in other countries and I was shocked at the shit I heard.

I believe in Karma. That means that I have a loooong memory, and what goes around always comes around. Some day somebody may have a call you respond to that you remember treated you like a subhuman, maybe you drive slower.... or maybe forget you know CPR .

Being a LEO is not a career I would choose, but I respect those have choosen it, thank you for your service to your City County State or Country, stay safe!

There are over 30,000 members here and what 4 or 6 moderators. My town has about 24,000 population and the police force is constantly dealing with dipshits. How bad would it be if we only had six cops in the whole town?

Keep it in perspective, there's always gonna be a dumb ass starting crap and has to have their hand slapped. There is very little leo hating going on here and it usually doesn't last very long when it starts.

I have quite a few friends who are cops. If you're doing the best you can do, it's a calling, if you're a dipshit cop, it's just a job and you'd be a dickhead at whatever job you had.

Personally I wouldn't last very long with a badge on because I'd get in trouble with the politically correct pansies all the time. I appreciate all the cops who are trying to do a good job and go home at night, or in the morning, to their families.

In all seriousness fella's ... in this world you gotta give respect to get respect. That goes both ways. Many of my young officers seem to have learned their human interaction skills from television cop shows, movies and video games. Some of these guys can make a muffler warning into an all out riot. There's a big problem when officers start looking at the public as the enemy... when even the guy calling in a request for help is considered to be an asshole.

That said, the level of hate you see for authority (not just leo's, ask any teacher) on the road today is way out of proportion with what I saw as a rookie in 1979. Not too sure exactly why... but I suspect the continued breakdown of our Society and the family is the main reason.

It's at times a very dangerous job, it's sure not one you take for the money. If you take it to gain the adoration of the public.... and all the great looking chicks... you got a surprise coming.... if that's what you wanted you otta be a fireman

Just a couple days ago I was talking with a friend and told him how much nicer LE have become since I quit drinking.......

The worst stories I've ever heard about cops came from other cops.

I don't think there is a lot of bashing going on, just misunderstandings; for example, a cop takes possession of someone's gun on his own property so that it makes him feel safe, some will cry foul, but those cops who have been in that situation will understand. They know what it is like trying to make it home every night. This example creates two very differing viewpoints from the same situation.

Another example would be when someone's son gets into a fight with another boy, and people immediately say "do not talk to the police and get a lawyer". By them saying this, it does not mean that they do not like police or think that they are all bad, but some cops viewing this might take offense and jump to the conclusion that people think cops are out to get them.

View points are just the way someone looks at a specific situation from their perspective; they are not facts or truisms. Reality is relative to the viewer and their experiences and biases. Who are we to judge that which we can never truly know, and that is someone else's perspective.

So lighten up, most here don't hate cops and do give them the benefit of the doubt, and for those who don't, how can we truly question their opinion without actually being them. Our own countering views are just as biased as theirs.

You want to know where that is created? It starts every time you sit around at the bar or the grill or the TV with your friends and tell them about "that stupid asshole" that gave you a ticket. Where it really starts, is everytime you listen to one of your idiot friends and their story (where they left out all the things they did wrong), and make the choice to nod your head and agree with them.

Everytime youre a prick on a traffic stop you reinforce that "Us vs them" mentality. Every time you get hostile because that officer did you a favor and brought your stupid kid home instead of to juvie. Every time you hop online and bitch. Every time you stand there in court and lie about that stop sign that you "didnt run." Every time you get pissy at the officer for stopping traffic for the funeral procession. Every time you blow past us 8 inches away from our traffic stop.

But, you wanna know where it REALLY starts??? It is created with every dumbshit parent that grabs their kid's arm and "jokingly" says (and I BET half the guys with kids have said this), "He's gonna getcha" when a uniform walks in.

You can sit there and bitch that LE has an "Us vs them" mentality. But, are you really so dense as to think that we're the only ones that feel that way? Dont kid yourself. "The people" feel the exact same way.

And, yes, it is readily apparent with plenty of people on this site. It oozes through some member's keyboards on here. Hell, quite a few of the guys that immediately sounded off how "pro LEO" this site is, are the ones Im talking about. Laughable.

Victory, those two examples that you brought up are just the recent ones, which I don't really think are that bad. I'm not basing my opinion on those two threads, I'm basing it on the last two to three years. To the point where I didn't even post on here or even log on because of the constant crap. I'm not really much of a long range guy or even a precision shooter. I'm more of an AR guy. I came here to learn about scopes and ballistics, which I owe a lot of thanks to guys like J.Boyette. I generally try not to venture onto the Bear Pit Section because I don't like to waste my time with stuff like this, but it seems like everytime I do check it out, some po-po bashing stuff pops up.

And I'm all for different opinions and I respect them, but when someone is posting some blatant bullshit like NEVER talk to the Police, well that is dumb. I sure wouldn't want someone on this site or someone reading it to take that and run with it and all of a sudden get himself jammed up over something stupid that could have been avoided by speaking with the police. Opinions are opinions, putting out wrong info is not an opinion.

Well, i don't hate cops, i try to respect them, but sometimes, there are idoits around. I have yet to have a pleasant experience with a LEO here is aus.

1. Renewing my firearms licence, I had to go fill out some paperwork and pay the fee at the local police station. Licence requirements here require you either to be with a club like SSAA( Australia's NRA) or have a letter of permission to allow you to hunt on their property (which only gives you the hunting licence) Being in the SSAA, it allows me to do both target and huting, but this stubborn LEO decides that i can only do target (wtf is the point then shooting paper..) and i would still need an additional letter to hunt. So i respectfully disagree and she starts pretty much abusing me. Started of with you can't read, then went to what you studying and you're going to be the worst pharmacist ever and you'll kill someone. So i decide to call weapons licensing and they confirmed i was right.. I was obviously pissed and wanted to make a complaint. But got asked to leave instead...

2. At my casual job at a pizza joint. A driver of mine gets jumped by 6 punks and get his head bashed in, comes back a mess, contacted the cops and they said they'll send someone round. almost 2 hrs later, still no show, call them again and they said they'll come take the statements tomorrow. Next day no show, took the driver to the station and start filling out forms and they tell me its a long form and give me that "i dont want to do paperwork look"

3. The worst thing. Mate gets robbed right outside a police station. He's in the phonebooth outside the police station when 2 guys approached him and asked for his wallet. He runs and gets to the back door of the station banging on it and screaming for help. Cop on the other side tells him to come to the front... He get's bashed and robbed while trying to get to the front. Cops didn't even come out to assist.


So what's going on lol. Is it just my bad luck?

I don't get that feeling, there are a lot of strongly opinionated folks here, and I think it can be seen in many of the threads. Hell if I took everything personal, I wouldn't be very good at my job. Besides the most imprtant day in the arrested subject's life was probably a Monday to me.
