Hello everyone. I am in the process of re-finishing my AR and I was wondering what coating that our soldiers are using in Iraq? The pictures of the M40A3's and etc. that are ultra flat desert messes. I was wondering if these were duracoat jobs or some other coating? Thanks for the answers.

How do you think Krylon would hold up on an AR? max shot strings of 30 rounds in 10 minutes. Do you think if I added enough flattening agent to Duracoat that it would flatten on out? Thanks.

The best thing about krylon is brake parts cleaner will blast it right off. Just paint it, shoot it, then clean it off if you don't like it.

Thanks all. I think I might just roll with that then! Any preparation needed before painting her up?

just degrease it, and cover up critical parts with masking tape

Close the ejection port cover, stick a earplug in the muzzle and have fun.

+1 on the krylon, M-14's, 24's, 107's, 110's and M4's. remember some bean counter garrison type will eventually want it back to its original finish in the arms room, krylon makes that transition easy.
