Colorado Multigun's Steel Safari is designed to test a competitor's skills shooting rifle in practical "hunting-type" challenges in the natural terrain using what gear he can carry.
Shooters should expect:
* two day-long field stages each involving movement through approximately 3 miles of rugged desert terrain; each field stage will have approximately 10 shooting stations; each shooting station will have 6 target opportunities
* to locate, range, and engage targets at each station under a time limit
* to carry gear used during the courses of fire
* to engage rifle targets from 200 to 700 yards (few engagements outside this range may be required)
* Standard targets sizes are 6"x12" or 12"x12", but some vary.
* fantastic geographic features for a hike-and-shoot match
* an optional long-range side match with an emphasis on KYL ("know your limitations") and speed, for prizes
* both an "unlimited" and a "light rifle" division.
The Steel Safari has been going on at the Blue Steel Ranch for quite a few years now, but with almost no publicity. This year Colorado Multi-Gun LLC is taking over the match.
Registration will be limited to 30 shooters. Prior-year shooters will get preference in the registration queue until January 15th, after which it will be first-come first-served.
I am the match director. If you have questions, please contact me via email or cell phone. While I try to keep up to date on all relevant forum posts, I seem to often miss the notification emails. Thus, email or call my cell if you really need an answer.
Hopefully we will get one or more members of Team Blaster to this event. This match and the SCPRC is same weekend so we may get 2 at 1 or so we havent did planning yet!!

As of this morning, the match is full. Confirmation and wait-list emails will start to go out on the 16th per the quoted text.

Update:
Applicants have already or will soon be receiving an email regarding if they made it "in" or if they are on the wait list.

This actually turned out to be moot. No applicant was "bumped" because of a late-applying alumni. In other words, if we had simply taken the applications in the order received, the result would have been exactly the same. All applicants who are currently on the wait-list are there simply because they waited too long to send in their app.
Based on history, we expect a couple people to drop out between now and the match date. People on the wait list will be notified of the opportunity to shoot in the order their applications were received.

The way to do this is to have them send in their apps ASAP. Just like before, we confirm spots in the order we receive completed applications with payment.
This is the most fair to everyone and gives us the best chance of filling all available competitor slots for the match.
I might have an extra bed in my room for the weekend. Thurs-Sun. Haven't heard back from supposed roomate yet. Decent motel, it's where everyone stays and is close to the match. ~25 bucks a night. PM me if you're interested.
edit -extra bed has been reserved

The 2008 Steel Safari is in the books: 27 competitors, three days, 138 scored engagements on steel, 6.5 miles through the desert split by 20 field shooting stations, 95-100 degrees F, winds 10-35 mph.
Some match staff and competitors are still traveling home today. We took 1500+ photos and a bunch of video.
I'll post the results soon, followed by photo, a match report, and some video later on.

Yes, but at least it was a dry heat. My carcass would have dried out quickly given the humidty. Great match, now if I can just start practicing now for next year!
Great match! Congrats to Zak and crew, and the Wheelers, for making it fun. Good eats too. Next year I'll stay in a hotel and get some sleep (and air conditioning).

Thank you Zack for a well run match, thanks also to the Dave and Lorraine,,,,and the Ladies that over the years have directed the scoreing and scheduleing of departure and collating of scores...
It was a pleasure to shoot next to a supressed " HIGH .308" shooter like Ray Sanchez...he was on,,,,,,looks like only one snake lost his rattler
What? No high .308 for the LR side match? Kidding, it was a great match and I learned alot. I came away from it a better shooter and met alot of cool people. Thanks for letting me in.

Here's a batch of photos to whet your appetites. I followed a set of shooters around on both Saturday and Sunday to get coverage of every stage in the match, which means I couldn't get every shooter on the field courses.
Starting with the Long-Range Side Match on Friday:
