well im in the middle of iraq and im already thinking of my mid tour present to myself. i though of ordering a custom rifle, but not sure, love the look of the sprs and the kimber. never here much about the kimbers though, i kinna want a .300 mag as well but i think the fns only come in 300 wsm. any input on this caliber over the standard mag. i already got a .308. so little help much appreciated
Thanks for keeping us safe here.I have owned a FN in 308 for a number of years and it is a well built rifle. With handloads i can print 3/4" groups at 200yds,It has a mcmillan A3 stock a heavy chrome linned barrel that cleans real easy.I do not have any expearance with Kimber. If you dont mind me asking do you see many M14 rifles over there.

yes i have one, im an SDM/team ldr. they were handed over when we got in country its got a leupold on and i painted it all up. we were given 6 for the company, and we have 2 m107s as well. i mounted a peq 4 to the front rail. and equip it with a pas 13 thermal weapon sight for night operations, i just unbolt the leupold and mounth the thermal. i have remounted and checked it and there is no shift so its good to go.
Happy to see they are giving you guys a good hard hitting reliable, rifle like the m14.I have owned a bunch of them over the last 30 years and cant say enough good things about the 14.

I have had both and I prefer the Kimber. Nothing wrong with the FN/Win , but the Kimber action was much smoother and had a Much nicer trigger. Acuracy was super in both with handloads, but alll in all...the Kimber seemed more like a custom build rather than a production rifle.
I think most will say FN because not many people have any experience with a Kimber. I have the Kimber and would agree its a more custom rifle feel by far. I love the A5 stock with LOP spacer system and the adj internal cheek peice. Mine groups better than most of my major brand custom rifles, the self lubricating finish is the best I have seen and you get all the custom action work you would want from a custom. I really can not think of one thing it needs with the exception of a threaded barrel and I like mine a bit shorter then the 24" factory gun. I like the control feed action myself , left hand bolt release, tac bolt knob every thing right out of the box.
Do they make the Kimber in anything but .308? Never heard of another caliber from the factory?

yes the also make in .300 winchester magnum, which is what i think im gonna get, just cuz not many people have them. but of the few ive talked too about them, they all love them, and leupold makes a scope that matches, is that the scope you have on yours
No but the lup kit is the way I would go if I was buying one now, can't beat the price. Right now I have a proto type scope on it now but the Kimber is my backup school rifle for my GAP so I have matching USO glass on both in the unlikly case I damage a scope. I think I am shooting the Kimber as my primary next time to get some more rounds down the tube. If I was not computer handicapped I would post some Pics.

The Kimber is a freaking beautiful rifle, and if you can get into one cheap, I wouldnt hesitate to try one. But no way in hell I would pay $2600 for it. As nice as it may be it is no better than a GAP and you can find like new GAP's for $2600 pretty easily.

What the hell is a self lubricating finish?
The finish has almost a wet look to it, and I think it looks great. But it is almost a gloss finish as opposed to matte. Is it as reflective as it appears?

I have both rifles and enjoy them very much. The only complant i have is with the FN's trigger, it seems a little to short in the trigger guard for me. It seems that I have to concentrate when I refit my hand after cycling the bolt. My trigger finger seems to catch the tip of the trigger instead of the whole shoe. My only complaint. If your looking for a 300 Win go with the Sako TRG-42. The rifle is more user friendly and fits better. Its about the same price as the Kimber. I have the FN-SPR,kimber AT-308,and the Sako TRG-22,and the 42 in 338 lapua. My opinion Hope it helps.
I have them both, and as you can find from my thread about the Kimber I am very disatisfied with it. The FN PBR XP I have on the other hand is a fuckin hammer! Thats with the Hogue stock, and Black hills red box 168 ammo. I going to aquire a MCM this trip around in the sand box. The kimber has started to show promise, but for what it cost and what it is going to cost me to have a smith bed it properly is BS.
FN PBR is 308 my Kimber AT is 300WM.
Apples to oranges, but I would expect the $2500 rifle to blow the windows out of a $600 rifle!
