Movie Theater Original Miami Vice... Starz Encore...

It’s been on Starz Encore for over a year. The first 2-3 years were the best then after, episodes were kind of so so.

I never saw it when it originally ran but I watched on one of those streaming services a few years ago. I made through the first season and slightly into second. Awesome show and well ahead of its time. I wish I had watched it back in the 80's.

The soundtrack was unreal as well... There were bands 'discovered' on there. Cowboy Junkies among them... If you listen to any '80s channel (I'm a fan of First Wave on Sirius) you will hear a song from Miami Vice about every 20 minutes. Everything was on there.

It was also one of the first cop shows (after Hill St. Blues -- another amazing series)... in which the cops didn't always win. And black and white was... shades of grey. There are only two shows in my life that I can remember 'making time' to watch in the days before DVRs.... one was Miami Vice. The Other was Justified (even though I could DVR it... I could not wait to watch it.)

An incredible series. @lowlight and I are the same age... I wonder if he was into Miami Vice... or too busy being the toughest m*&^%$#@cker on Parris Island? Friday night Vice was part of my post HS life for sure!

Cheers,

Sirhr

Totally jumped the shark when Sonny turned drug lord, etc. blah blah blah.

But 'everyone' was in it.

Best episodes were Gordon Liddy...

So much win in that show!

Some of my favorites were: The ones with: G Gordon Liddy, Ted Nugent, Willie Nelson and the one with Glen Frey. 👍👍

I never saw an episode of Miami Vice back when it was on, I was not a fan...

Back then I was not a big TV guy, and still not a series person unless I can binge it. I tend to watch movies more, I have seen the Miami Vice movie with Colin and Jamie Foxx

Plus we weren't "cop" show people in our family

I probably have VCR tapes in the basement of every show. My wife and I hadn't been married long, and we spent several hundred dollars (a small fortune at the time) and bought a very nice VCR. Miami Vice was one of our weekly recordings.

We had to decide whether to go with VHS or BETA. We went with VHS.

I have the complete DVD series in the white box. I concur that it sort of lost its way after the end of season 4.

Also, they redid some of the sound effects once the series started to be broadcast in "Stereo." In particular, the sound of the fake Daytona Spider, as well as some of the machine gun fire (i.e. when Sonny shot and killed Calderon in front of his (Calderon's) daughter). Thankfully, they did not redo the sound of the full auto that Jim Zubenia (playing assassin Ludivicio Armstrong when he shot/killed Lt. Rodriquez) used inside Crocket's house (and subsequentially, outside).

My favorite guest start had to be "Uncle Ted." He was featured in one episode ("Definitely Miami") that also featured actress "Arielle Dombasle." And he also sang "Little Miss Dangerous" in an episode named the same.

In the 80's the economy in Texas suc't and everyone was broke. But IPSC was just getting off the ground and the 1911 was seeing a rebirth.

We also had Miami Vice on Friday night. It featured a fellow IPSC competitor as well as Roberto Duran, Alexis Argüello, G. Gordon Liddy and others as BG's.

The soundtracks featuring Michael Mann, Foreigner and Phil Collins were perfect.

It been a while. I need to re visit. Magnum PI is the benchmark for 80's cop/crime shows.
The 308 GTS is King over the Testarossa & Daytona Spyder. Fight Me.
Magnum and Simon and Simon were my other favorites.

“Did you see the sunrise?” One of the best television moments of the 1980s.

But I have to say a real Daytona trumps a 308. And both Trump a Testarossa which was really just a vegetable slicer on wheels.

Cheers

If you get a chance, check out other Michael Mann movies. Shootouts are a little more"intense" in his productions than other shows.

We actually just rewatched the first two seasons. After the first episodes of season 2, it goes downhill quickly.

Sonny was rocking the new Bren Ten and driving a Ferrari Daytona Spider.

I remember one episode he goes undercover posing as a right winger to a shooting range to shoot his Bren and try and get a lead on a case. He goes off on a tirade to the RO about the communists in government.

I thought, 'yeah, and...?' That sounds like normal, everyday talk at my range. 😆

Greatest MV scene...

I firmly believe that any “old” series that has found a place of reverence in your memory should be left there. I’ve been disappointed too many times by shows that I thought were great, only to realize that they sucked more tranny nuts than modern toasters.

Ok... so one of my dirty secrets is that I love Miami Vice... the original series!

And it's all on Starz right now.

Yeah... total '80s claptrap. But still one of those great series of history.

No, I don't wear Armani jackets with T-shirts. Any more... ;-)

I liked the episode with Glenn Frey in it....flying drugs.

Ok, now name your favorite episode. Season 2, E9 Bushido. Favorite song (no points for In the Air Tonight) The Nobody's, No Guarantees

Umm, ok,but we're talking Miami Vice here, not Airwolf or Street Hawk, so....

My cousin grew up right in the middle of the cocaine wars in Miami so clearly i was captivated by it from that standpoint alone. Add bikinis, bullets and a Ferrari yea i was all in. Even watched series again maybe 5 years ago and enjoyed it. From Liam Neeson to Phil Collins it was a who's who of people cutting their teeth as guests.

The Daytona's were all replicas based on a C3 vette chassis
I think a few of the Testaroses were replicas also

The Testarosas were real. They were provided to the show by Ferarri, NA, and were listed in the show's end credits as being the providers. Maybe they weren't "Class A" selllable versions (maybe they had a defect or two), but they were real Testarosas.

Curly was a IDPA Grand Master in that scene. Lightning draw.

Yes. Here is my most favorite scene involving Jim... It's the one I mentioned above where i was grateful they didn't overdub the machine gun sounds. I saw Jim do an interview where he talked about the weapon he used (perhaps, one he owned privately). The machine gun fire starts at 02:40.

Here is the other scene I mentioned where Calderon is killed by Sonny. In this clip, we hear the original machine gun sound (mono).

I can't find the "stereo" version real quick. BTW, the actress who plays "Angelina" (Calderon's daughter) did not have a full career acting as her family did not approve of her performance in this episode (i.e. the scene where she and Tubbs "get busy."). A shame....Maybe a little "overacting" in Calderon's death scene (since 2 minutes later, she appears "normal"), but...
