That's no coyote, and one wouldn't think a wolf would be so photogenic!

I was up on the rim in AZ (outside of Payson) coyote hunting. Was perched up on a hill and my buddie (who is new to hunting) spotted a 4 legged creature about 400 yards out trotting up a path. Glassed him and I told him to pass as it was more than likely a wolf (was thinking mexican gray wolf??) which are not legal to take without a tag here in AZ. Looked alot like the dog pictured above.

^ This. Definitely not a coyote. Wolf hybrid, maybe someone lost their pet or turned it loose when they could not afford to feed it anymore. I have picked up so many abandoned dogs in the desert in the last few years it is ridiculous. I would conservatively say 20+.
Husky, we have one in our neighborhood and it freaks me out every time I see it late at night
No yote....dog or wolf.
A wolf wouldn't stand there for a photo in most cases, maybe if there was an elk carcass laying there, but my vote is a dog. Definitely not a coyote, colorations, size, features just aren't right.

Please send my family pet Sheba home. My old eyes and this picture give little clues, cant see the clues to distinguish a wolf. I have seen a few wolves in my time and had a wolf hybrid family pet, looks like a closed face malamute. I have seen wolves on a kill stand their area as we approached but were still skiddish to our presence.
But I have to mention, I do believe a friend and I camped on that very road at the curve in the top of the picture during a heavy snow storm. As the storm brewed and snow piled up, we had to turn tails down to the main road were we found a plowed pull out and dug into the snow pile to bivy. How close is that to Bridalvail falls.
I think it is a wolf. I have seen wolves up Provo Canyon a few times. The forest service spotted a wolf pack from a helicopter last year. I am a wildlife photographer, and while that doesn't make me an expert, I have definitely seen enough to make me believe it is a wolf.
I am 100% sure it is NOT a coyote. Definitely not a straight up malamute or husky either. It could be a hybrid.

It looks like the husky I used to have...
With all the recent hype and publicity in Utah over the presence or non presence of wolves I am going to say this is a domestic dog or wolf hybrid and was a staged photo opportunity. We have great and majestic wolves here in Arizona and I can assure you they have easily migrated into Utah from here so I do not doubt there are some present there. They are a wonderful addition to any ecosystem.......they make great worm food. S S S!
Somebody's husky. Looks to be 1/16 yote with a cross of timber wolf. Shit I really don't know....
The DOW wont admit they are here but dad and I on a high country buck tag adventure spotted one at Dome lake in the Zirkel Wilderness.

If you're in a state that has wolves and they aren't being hunted they tend to be very bold. Recently a new pack here in E. Washington had a female photographed and approached to 60 yards. The ranch just down from us had two wolves stand over a kill until they approached within 20 yards. Takes them seeing a pack member get wacked before they start associating humans with danger and start making themselves scarce.

Looks to husky to be wolf, no yote, maybe a pet or an offspring hybrid imo grey wolves tend to be tall and lanky

I vote Wolf...
I've never seen a wolf in the wild, but I've seen numerous coyotes. I can say with 100% confidence that is NOT a yote! And if wolves act anything like coyotes, then it would've never let someone get that close. I don't see a kill there for it to stand over. I'm guessing it's a really big dog.
For those saying a wolf won't stand there with a person that close, remember, the photo was taken from inside a vehicle. I once had a wolf in Minnesota trot right along side the car, look in the window while passing by and nonchalantly meander off into the woods behind me. Not a care in the world.
Seen plenty of both and that critter is neither....both wolves and coyotes this time of year are rubbed out and their hides look like ass. That thing looks like it just got bathed and curried.

I vote malamute/husky or wolf I have seen a wolves but they seem to have more grey in their coat.
