Long ago in Fla we provided power for many venues. During the early 90's a US Navy Hydrofoil was docked in Tampa & needed a Mw dockside. We took a unit down an hooked her up. That afternoon we got a call from a guy with CBS who wants us to move the unit 80 feet so they could use the ship as back drop for this POS. I was called to go down & see WTF was going on, which I did. Upon arrival I found the Captain to see if he wanted it moved & to relay the cost of same. Doing it while still powering the ship would be costly, but if it could be shut down during would be much cheaper. He wanted to know who called, told him, and he said no way its getting shut down for that. The Navy would not pay that freight, which is what I suspected from the get go. Walked over to the CBS crew an told them the cost and that was when it all went to shit. They told that POS Rather and he blew a gasket. He walked over and started berating me and after about 30 seconds the Captain walked up and just rolled his eyes. Which to me was clearance to respond in hillbilly style most properly. They got their shot w/o the back round they wanted, as that genset never moved. The Captain offered me a tour and CBS wanted to go as well & he said NO. While getting the tour he was suddenly called away and over rode by higher ups, about CBS coming aboard. He just smiled and said if my Order had not get reversed by higher those "people" would have been shot if they were trying to get on here. The look in his eye convinced me he was not bluffing.

We need plumbers, electricians, linemen, doctors, attorneys and a whole slew of other people.

I've never found myself thinking "damn... I could really use a celebrity right now."

That's what always concerned me about "Flying," especially when I pay for Business CL or First Cl and where I select the seat I want. I was always afraid of being bumped from the seat by a Celebrity because of their status. Yeah, I know most really important clebs would charter their own aircraft, but for those who would fly "commercially" as it's the only option...

Anyway, I lost faith in most journalists a long time ago, Rather included.

I’m I the only one that remembers ol Dan doing some speaking engagements a few years after the UA fiasco and basically saying just because the documents were signed by a commander that didn’t t exist and produced on a word processor that didn’t t exist at the time doesn’t mean it didn’t happen?
Maybe I dreamed it but I’m pretty sure that the University of Michigan hosted one of those speaking engagements.

When there was and is so much awful shit that’s true about the guy funny that they had to make shit up to cover their own involvement in evil.

Dan Rather's attempt at rigging an election against a Repub. in 2004 by fabricating pure bullshit should make him a star in today's media.

I'm surprised they don't refer to him as a real pioneer and ground breaker in fake news today, maybe coming up with 'The Rather Award' for the most shameless fabrication.

That title is held by Walter Cronkite to me. I caught him lying about a story a few of us were involved in 1966. After we filled out the AAR's they were returned to us after being changed. We refused to sign them based on who was there & a few other things and that caused a shit storm. The changes were insignificant over all, but they were pure lies. Anyway what Lying Walter reported was the changes to the AAR, not the truth. I would suspect this same sort of thing went of during WW II as well, to promote XYZ agendas.
