Well actually we have. If you are talking about brain injury at birth. When, a child is oxygen starved at birth, a massive injection of the solvent, DMSO will free up the blood vessels in the brain. This feeds the oxygen starved cells and allowing at least a partial if not a total recovery. its a one time deal, do it immediately, you get a cure, wait, and/or do nothing, and you get a brain damaged individual who’s lack of ability to work out problems civilly in his or her life leads to an exceptionally nasty, hard to live with individual. (I know, down through the years, I have had several in my caseload, they are not fun people to be around).

As far as good ole low IQ scores. They are pretty much stuck with what they were born with. However, consider this. IQ score does not make a person a better or worse person. People with mental retardation are just like you and me, they have the same desires, fears, needs and feelings. They just don’t add, subtract, multiply or divide as well as people who have average IQ scores.

A good way to think about IQ scores being a measure of a persons value. Albert Einstein was perhaps one of the most intelligent men who have lived within the last 100 years. Yet, he made a total mess of his personal life. His IQ score had to be at least 150 where the average is 100. We consider a score of 69 or below to be mentally retarded. However, compared to Einstein, we are all retarded. Is Einstein intrinsically a better person? (Because he has a higher IQ). No.

Now, what the meme refers to is not IQ but plain ole lack of common sense. It’s like using Nazi-Facist like tactics and methodology to protest what they believe is Facisium. Or repeating mistakes over and over again, not learning or Not Studying History…..

Which brings us back to common sense. Sense, means studying what worked and what did not work and applying that learning in a successful way. History is everything. Learn how to add, study a math book (which is a history of what math worked and what did not add up :D ) All learning outside of research in these days and times is a historical study.

And what do these ‘stupid’ people lack? A study of what works and what does not work. A study of and belief of history.

Oh the DMSO to resolve oxygen starvation at birth, forget it, like trying ivermectin to cure Covid. Gotta follow the “science.” And the science says, follow the witch doctors 🧙‍♀️ They know science best.

Chase turns 14 June 2nd. The doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital in Madison are miracle workers. The level of care he's received has been amazing. When he get's discharged, yet unknown, he will do his rehab at a place called Shirley Ryan's in Glenview, IL. I know nothing of the place, but if the Docs say that is where he needs to be, that's good enough for us.

Excellent news.
Despite negative reviews (and my bias), healthcare folks still do pretty amazing work

will keep praying for Chase, and his parents.

IMO, better to have let him do that than sit and play video games and eat Cheetos…..

I question how much radiation the animals tested were actually exposed to. Radioactive material and sediment was probably moved around and spread out fairly quickly. Water is also a good insulator of ionizing radiation. You could swim in the spent fuel pool at a nuke plant and be fine; it would probably be nice and warm. Unless they were in direct contact with radioactive material, they wouldn't get much dose.
Saw this not long ago.

Been reading xkcd for years.

We have had divers in the spent fuel pools at work, I thought I remember radiation protection saying they could get as close as 6' to the top of the racks that hold the spent fuel before dose rates were higher than you needed. Borated water does a great job moderating gammas. RP just rinses them off as they come out of the pool and as there getting out of the dry suit to get any contamination off. The water is super pure demineralized water with boron in it.

So that’s where you got your user name.

I did get to tour a plant a few years ago. Pretty cool experience.

Another fun fact... all the waste ever generated from all nuclear plants can fit on a single football field.

Almost as cool as touring a nuclear plant, got to ride on my first caboose today.
