Just bought a 308 and trying to order ammo ASAP because I know it'll take long to arrive.

I'm looking at FGMM 168 for 199.99 Free shipping for 200 rounds or Prime 175 for 190.00 Free shipping for 200 rounds.

Any reason to pick one over the other? I must say though, it appears it could potentially be the old prime recipe. I'm also not even sure if the rifle will like that but I know those are known quality ammunitions so considering them highly.

    Thanks,

    Serg

Prime 175 will do better beyond 600y than 168 smks and Prime may be better brass if you reload.
    I'd choose the Prime.
But if it was FGMM 175 vs PRIME 175, that'd come down to which brass you want to save... cuz they both shoot very well.

Get FGMM in 175’s (usually can be had for $1/per +/-) and run it against the Prime 175’s. Let your rifle decide.

Care to share where you're finding the Prime so cheap?

If you search you can generally find 168fgmm for 80 to 85 cents a round in bulk. I have a ton of it still. If it's at target sports I wonder if it's the stuff that was disputed... either way it shot great.....

    Both can shoot great

I'm sure you can find FGMM at lower than a buck per round but I wanted something now versus having to wait for sales or deals.

If you are referring to the prime being the old type, I would have to assume it is. However, I have no way of verifying that. I think I paid $190.00 for a case. This includes the free shipping and no taxes.

If it’s at targetsports it’s the older prime, it’s still good though.

Ended up snagging a few cases of the prime to try out. Thanks for the heads up. At 40 a case cheaper then the 175fgmm for trainer 308, what could go wrong.

The prime has been pretty slow in comparison to FGMM in my experience. Its accurate, but slow. Regarding the 600 yard wall the 168s some have talked about, i havent had that happen to me. More around 800 yards or so. But my barrel seems to be a fairly fast barrel. Fgmm 168 are running 2750 out of my remington 24" barrel per my magnetospeed.

What velocity difference are you seeing in the same rifle between the prime and FGMM. Both in the 175gr pills?

I ordered some 22 ammo from them and even though it says a 12-15 day wait before it ships, they were able to get to shipped in about seven or eight days.

That's really good to hear. I've got an order of ammo pending from a different website and it's been a bit more than 2 weeks already and hast even shipped.

Hopefully that's not the case with my prime ammo that I purchased from TSUSA!

What is the gun? Some manufacturers will say what round they use as a test standard for best accuracy. I have a Savage 110 tactical, and Savage states that the test bullet they use for best accuracy is FGMM 168. Sure enough, it shoots the tightest group with that bullet weight over all others. However, I also have a 2a Armament AR-10 build with a 18" barrel, and it shoots 175 gr rounds the tightest.

The gun is an FN SPR with a Shilen select match barrel 10 twist...

all I know about prime is they made a dam fine 6.5 130 grain ammo . if the 308 is 1/2 as good as the 6.5 in constancy and repeatability Id say get it . Its the larger grain of the two and by what was posted a few dollars cheaper . Maybe by a few of the other brand and compare the two and post your finding . good luck and enjoy .

I never ran a chrono with them but the prime was a .4 mils low at 500 yards vs the fgmm and .1.1 mils at 900. I dont always have access to the magnetospeed but my AB calculator shows to hit with my elevations the federal is runnin 2710 and the prime 2550.

If I was a betting man (and I'm not) and didn't know anything more than what you posted, unless Shilen says different, I would bet that the 175s would shoot tighter out of that gun than the 168s.

IIRC, 175 Prime was @ 2595 and 175 FGMM was @ 2625 in my .308. The prime bullet is also not a Sierra SMK, it's a Norma 175 pill IIRC. I was using a .24 G7 trued bc to fit my dope. YMMV, etc.
    L to R: prime 175, smk 175, 178 bthp, 185 jug, 168 tmk.

In all my 308s the 185 fgmm has out shot in all aspects. Chrono the 3 and see which shoots best at 100, 300 and 500

In a 20" ar10 308 the fgmm 168s are hitting the target sideways at 1k, the fgmm 175s are still stable.
Its palmetto state or primary arms or somewhere but in the past every other month or so they would have sales with free shipping for a case where it was 85 cents per. The 175s and the 168s are the same price usually so there is zero downside to going 175 imp and extending your range. For this reason, price, I would go fgmm 175 personally if I wasnt going to be reloading it. It does have lot variations so one lot may be 100 fps than the last.
