Shooting an unsuppressed centerfire rifle at an indoor range sucks ass. Shooting under a roof sucks. And, the devious bastard that thought up shooting match stages throughout culverts should be strung up. The above notwithstanding, the article is laced with not a small amount of hyperbole. But, for a new shooter, an indoor range is the wrong place to begin shooting high power rifles.

Overall it's a fairly positive article about a new range in VT. It does get silly when the author starts talking about guns, and the paragraph about shooting the AR is downright ridiculous.
It is difficult to describe the impact — physical and personal — of that first shot. It felt like a meteor had struck the earth in front of me. A deep shock wave coursed through my body, the recoil rippling through my arms and right shoulder with astounding power. Being that close to an explosion of such magnitude — controlled and focused as it was — rattled me.
I think he orgasamed when he shot it, but he's in the closet about being 2A-curious.

Let him shoot green tips and tell them they're for shooting tanks, that he can't fire the orange ones because they explode and he's indoors... that the ones with the nickel cases are poison tipped or something ridiculous like that. Give him an airlite .357 titanium revolver with hot loads, then a boat anchor .22lr that's twice the size and see what his reaction looks like. Just load one in the chamber each time so he doesn't shoot himself and try to keep a straight face.

While I appreciate the effort, I have enough ammunition hand loaded for this barrel that my kids kids will be able to fill tags for their lifetimes, so I don’t see me replacing the barrel. For the 3 or 4 times it gets shot each year, I can bear to put on ear pro before the shot. For other situations, I have other rifles. But, with well over 1/2 of the competitors at a typical match shooting obnoxious brakes- requiring me to double up on ear pro even if I am suppressed- the benefits of a suppressor in that arena are outweighed by the negatives.Home
