Anyone reloading 375 Raptor? I am trying to compile data on this cartridge.

I got my .375 raptor put together. 14.5" X-cal barrel.

I currently have two load ladders worked up to test:

17-22 grains of 1680 under 400gr. Maker expanding sub

33-36 grains of 1680 under 250gr. Hornady CX.

Will share results one I get a chance to shoot em.

Gordon's Reloading Tool has a .375 raptor profile. I'm happy to run loads on any powder/projo cocktail anyone had.

Need powder, projo, COAL, bbl length, and powder temp.

Did you try out those hornady cx yet?

Well I got the hornady cx to work with 1680 and sbr socom did not have time to crono them short on time but will get some speeds and loads soon along with 270 Speer most other bullets are non existing atm

I shot the Hornady CX loads yesterday.

Started seeing pressure signs at 33.8 grains so I stopped there.

92 degrees
78% humidity
396 ft. Elev.

14.5" x-caliber barrel(LR-308)
2.75 COAL new Sig .308 converted

Accurate 1680
33.0 grains 2147 fps
33.5 grains 2161 fps
33.8 grains 2178 fps (flattening of primers started)

GRT says I should be at 55kpsi at 33.8 grains so maybe the CCI 250 is soft cup?

At 2178 that load generates 2640 ft. Lbs of energy.

I just got some accurate 2200 that I will try.

Finally got some 400gr maker subs on the way...
Had no idea GRT had .375 Raptor preset!
That's exciting!
Now if my barrel would just show up......
I'm building a bolt gun though.

I have tested all my current powders and projectiles and this is what I came up with:

Similar atmospheric conditions.

19 gr. Of Accurate 1680 under 400 gr maker bullets gets ~1000 fps. The SD was 26 fps so that isn’t great, but boy are these things quiet. I bought some clear ballistics gel and will post projectile expansion findings.

34.5 grains of 1680 under CX promo got 2157 fps. Very dirty and gassy load. Haven’t shot groups yet.

42 grains of 2200 under 270 Speer soft point. Haven’t chronod yet, but I think there is some room to move up the charge a grain or so based on case condition post firing.

This is what I got with my 200gr and 220gr out of my 300blk at 1000fps using 6.5gr of VV3N38 at 2.1 coal with an ES of 7!!! It’s also mouse fart quiet and cycles my gas gun. I’m still waiting on my chassis from Black Collar. I will be trying this powder first with my .375 loads. 100% powder burn before muzzle exit has proven, at least to me, to be the most important thing in making subs quiet. 1680 I have found to be terribly filthy subsonic and it leaves unburnt powder all over everything unless you’re loading it super with 100% burn. Try 16gr of Lil Gun (seems to be available everywhere) in your .375 400gr load, and you’ll see how quiet the big pills can be. Check your bore after shooting your 1680 sub load and you’ll probably see kernels of unburnt powder breech to muzzle. Maker bullets are all I use anymore for everything I load sub or super.

I haven’t had any issues with 1680 in .375 raptor.

Is there any other way!?
Seriously though. I have some lil gun and will do a load ladder with the 400s, but I cannot imagine them being any quieter.

I have had trouble in the past with lilgun cycling subs in 300BO. I switched to 1680 and it is very forgiving with respect to cycling.

I wasn't even considering the gas system for the AR-10 LR-308 platform  DUH!
Lil Gun is going to burn out around 6-7" retaining around 11k PSI at subsonic velocities so if you have a carbine length gas system it just may work.... Obviously depending on gas port size.
Mid-length or rifle... forget it!
It'll sure make for a quiet manual cycle round if you can shut your gas block off!
Maybe still worth a shot!

It is a carbine length system on a 14.5” barrel. I do have capability to shut gas off. Will load and report back results.

I am reloading 375 subs. Have been waiting on my 400gr makers, and they finally showed up today.
Appreciate the info on 1680 and Lil Gun. Have some of both and will give them a try. I also have Tin Star (not much)
but have heard good things with it, too-just so damn hard to find.
What OAL on the 400 Makers?

I've measured 270g Speer SP at 2.120 BTO and 400gr Makers at 2.470 BTO in my X-caliber chamber. This puts me at 2.76 COAL in the lands for the 400 grainers. Pretty close to what SAUMuvabitch is loading at but a little shorter (2.73) for me to stay out of the lands. Scott Medesha sells a modified case for the lock n load bullet seating gauge on eBay in .375 Raptor if you don't want to make one yourself. Every chamber is a little different and you def don't want to be seating in the lands for so many reasons. I've found the Hornady Bullet Comparator set and seating gauge to be absolutely necessary in load development. He also sells a case gauge FWIW.

VV has discontinued N32C(Tin Star) and N105 unfortunately.....

I didn’t have great results on the 400 grain makers with respect to ballistics gel. I recovered 0 of 4 projectiles. Based on permanent wound cavity, I am guessing that two of them opened up. The other two behaved like FMJ. One of the two that I suspect didn’t open up, were shot with two pieces of 7/8 veg tan leather in front of block. The two that I think opened, went through 16” of 10% gel and then 2.5 gallons of water before ending up in the woods somewhere. I did recover 2 petals off of one projo. This leads me to believe that they were going too fast(forgot chrono) or that I got a bad batch.

Recovered 400gr Maker sub
1050fps put a thick piece of wood behind your gel block as it should be going pretty slow after exiting. I got 19” of penetration in my 20” block.
Promising results with
20gr CFE-BLK (1050fps)
14.3gr Lil-Gun (1000 fps)
14.7gr N110 (980 fps)
I’m going to try to back down the CFE and load up 5 more of each and fire from the bench instead of my tripod. All three gave me 1” groups at 50 yards. I did try 13.5gr 3N38 as well since it worked so good for me in my 300 blk loads and it grouped like an uzi, lol.
I think either N110 or Lil-Gun is going to be the jam
I’d really like to find a powder with 100% burn rate that fills the case a little better.
I have some 270gr Speer loaded up with 40gr CFE that I will be trying next outing

How far from the gel from the muzzle?

I had wood under the gel, but I had no idea that they would go through gel and 2 gallons of water. Next time I will have a more substantial backstop.

Right about 50 yards... I set it up in front of my 3/4" plywood stand I staple my targets to just in case it passed through.

Sir, if you could recommend the powder and load, I probably have everything to test it now. And of course I will post my results to you gentleman.

If you look in the post that you replied to, you will find powder and charge weights. My loads are also shown above in this thread.

I've been close many times to getting one for a 700 SA but haven't pulled the trigger. I used to deer hunt a lot with a 375 JDJ and still have a lot of Hornady 220 and 225's on hand along with a nice mold from Accurate for 265's so that's why the interest in the Raptor. As much as I like the idea though, I'm on a big downsizing kick these days and getting rid of all the "just because" stuff in the safe so unlikely to get one in the near future.

I’m getting a savage 110 in .308 for future conversion to .375 raptor. The only thing this cartridge can’t compete with .308 in is ammo availability/cost.

“Just Because” rifles are the most fun.

I figured I'd drop this here since the site is down (doesn't look like it's coming back) and anyone just getting into the .375 Raptor might really appreciate this....
I have a few loads that are about where I want them with the 400gr Maker subs, 275 Speer BTSP and the 190GR Maker HV T-REX
and will post them as soon as I'm completely content with the results.

Thanks for sharing this info. Just starting a 375 Raptor 16" bolt gun build, so far have reloading components, Black Collar barrel, and AB .375 Raptor 10 still in jail. Plan on using an Origin action and still undecided on a chassis. Luckily, I printed all of these pages before I started this process but still was visiting the site for quick reference until it went down. now I can save them to a folder. Might be a while before my project is complete, but look forward to sharing load data, etc.

Finally got a chance to get back out and shoot the subs with the chrono. Much better results this time.

Muzzle (business end of Dead Air Primal) was 18” from gel. Went through 16” of gel and was caught in backstop (shoe box filled with olde t-shirts soaked in water). Still had plenty of energy when the shoe box stopped it.

Opened up to 1.02 and was tumbling when it hit the shoebox. Retained 100% of mass.

I got my barrel from mos-tek finally. Hopefully I can get to rebarreling my Tikka after my busy Fall season. For those that remember I was looking at doing an AR10 build, but switched to a bolt gun build (Tikka T3x).

Anyway, in case it hasn't been mentioned, Aitken Arms is making some 375 Raptor Sub ammo. They mention they may be doing some super loads, too.

The load data from the old site showed the designer using alot of reloader 10x. Anyone try this powder?

My plan for supers is to use 270gr speers for plinking and a copper solid for hunting. I think the sweet spot for monometals might be around 230grs.

I did manage to get some exotic bullets (South Africa, I think). Peregrine Plainsmaster 230gr. Someone somewhere posted they were getting 2500fps with an 18" barrel with those bullets. I didn't get anymore info than that, so I guess I will find out.

I also need to figure out how deep to seat them, due to the drive bands.

The Plainsmaster has a hollow cavity like many monos, but they use what looks to be a copper alloy tip instead of a plastic tip.

Below is that Peregrine bullet. The bottom image shows 308 168gr SMK (left), 375 270gr Speer, 375 230gr Plainsmaster (right).

I'm curious, has anyone tried Reloder 10x? That seemed to be one the recommended powders.

So far I have the 190 Maker, 230 Peregine, 270Speer, and 260 Accubond bullets. I think all I need now is some powder.

I have not tried 10x, because I haven’t found any. Accurate 1680 and 2200 have both been good to me. 1680 for subs and supers and 2200 for supers only.

Well I just bought 5lbs from midwayusa, so I hope it works okay.

Oh , here's my current bullet lineup.

There used to be data for 10x on the .375raptor.com website, but it looks to be down or otherwise removed. 10x was one of the most mentioned powders on their lists. If you would like, I can see if 10x is a powder in Gordon’s reloading tool and kick out some starting loads for you. It may be Wednesday before I have time to do so.

I have GRT, so I might be able to figure things out.

That said, I would open to a recommendation on how much pressure to aim for on a starting load with GRT.

There is a .375 Raptor GRT profile somewhere in This thread. I usually start at 20% under max and work up to max in .4-.5 gr increments.

It wastes more powder and projos, but it is safer.
