I got asked about the texture on my AX grip backstrap, so I figured I might as well share so others can get ideas, maybe improve on this.
I didn't like the "slick" surface on the grip of my AX when I got it, so I figured I have a couple ways to fix:
- Use self-adhesive 1/16" closed-cell foam, similar to the cheek pads from Hoptic but thinner
- break out the checkering files
- stipple, like I do to my 1911 frontstrap or my FEG BHP clone:
So I looked at how the customizers & DIY-ers are doing the Glock frames, broke out my soldering iron and ... just in case ... bought a new backstrap from EuroOptic. Took under an hour after the iron warmed up.
Result feels pretty good and works for me:
Now the question is Do I have the stones to do the front of the grip panels?
