Anyone know how of a good drop in 308 barrel for an AR? No ballistic advantage/ faxon. I found a proof but was hoping for something decent in the $3-400 range. Shaw, Lothar Walther/Spikes, Criterion or McGowan?
I have 3 X-Caliber barrels and I'll buy more when the times comes to build another rifle or re-barrel. 1/2 MOA from my .243 Win and .308 LRs. Both have 24" fluted barrels, fit and finish were flawless.
Our proof stainless (bolt gun)barrel had chatter marks from chamber cutting when it was new and it’s probably the most accurate barrel we have. Don’t let your borescope cost you unnecessary $. I’ll twist the knife and say the 6.5 CM BA barrel we have is also a hammer. There was a ridic sale when I was collecting parts so I figured I’d give it a shot. I think I paid less than $200 for it!

I've had good luck with Criterion, 24" 6.5CM from Fulton Armory. Recently bought one of their 22" Hybrid profile 6.5CM from Brownells, but haven't built out that one yet.

I have read a bunch love BA CM barrels. I do own a proof in 6.5cm. This gun won’t see much past 500 yards hence looking for a slightly cheaper barrel. The reason I’m shying away from BA is I had a non concentric bore with one of their blackout barrels and it took almost three months to get a replacement.
Good choice, I'd buy the 6.5CM SS barrels but I hate that lightweight contour they changed to. For the past 6+ years all my custom barrels have all had the M110 barrel profile no matter what the caliber, large and small frame.

FWIW...I have had very good experiences with Criterion barrels.
My 22" 6.5CM shoots better then me. My 18" 308 will shoot great groups with FGMM, and certain surplus loads ( Sanitized DAG ) What caliber are you looking for ? And what barrel length ?
Please let us know your results with the Proof barrel.
