GLFA, great lakes firearms and ammunition. i haven’t seen much on this company and i was wondering if anyone has any first hand knowledge of them. they are making a 300 win mag with a proprietary lower reciever that’s around $1100 bucks. i know it’s not a high end build gun. i know there has been some problems with the noreen and omen rifles and i’m curious if any of there guns went the route of the big bang yet.

if you have negatives with the gun or the company please give the reason. same goes with positive comments.

I might stay away. It does look cool, but the fit and finish on my 308 are sub-par. If they havent perfected the 308, then im sure the 300 win mag is lacking as well

I have a glfa 5.56 carbine . I bought it to use in 2 gun matches . I have run around 2500 rounds through the gun and not had any issue's , but everybody sell's a 600 dollar AR 15 these days' , look at the volume of Palmetto state's sale's . A 300 winmag its a horse of a different color and having something like that next to your face is a big deal . While I can't say anything bad about glfa from personal experience I certainly would be extra cautious especially at the price point . Maybe let your ex-wife shoot it first .

For a cheap semi, I'd err on the side of caution with that much power a few inches from my face.

wow, in this cnc world how do they leave machining marks like that. that’s almost unacceptable

So higher end companies can’t get 300WM right, but you think a bargain bin $1100 rifle will be good? $1100 308 gas guns aren’t even worth owning.

No but it almost killed a guy when it did explode and that is the gun's fault.

There's been more than one Serbu have an issue. Cheap guns are trash. If you have $1100 to spend on a semi auto buy an AR-15, it's the only way you'll get something for that price that isn't a piece of shit.

ur point?? any barrett would have went kaboom too in that situation

if you have no experience with the company or specific gun mentioned in the primary post you have nothing to add to the conversation.

no just a bolt, carrier, and aluminum fragments. when you get to those pressures anything can happen.
Take a look at what well designed systems actually do when they fail. They fail at pressures outside the operating window by a reasonable amount and explode outwards as much as possible. Holding a shit ton of pressure then leaving nowhere for the failure point to go but back at your face is a horrible idea. Anyway, enough arguing about a 50 BMG pipe bomb in an AR thread.

Well I happen to own one. It definitely looks better than the 308 version pictured in this thread. Hand guard and lower have no burrs. Or sharp edges. Upper receiver had some burrs. But that was simple enough to take care off. Very little play between upper and lower. Took a look at the rifling and Crown. And they look excellent. No excess machining marks. I literally went through the whole rifle. Every part was nice and tight. I did find a few nicks on the buffer. Which was from the factory test firing it. Had to install an off set Galloway precision off set buffer pin. I did the standard test on the lower. Put it on safe. Squeeze the trigger. Watch for the trigger pins to move. And they Didn’t wiggle in the least. Which is a good sign. When I installed a picatinny rail and sling attachmen. They literally fit perfectly. No play back or forth. One thing that I don’t like is they use a roll pin to hold the firing pin in place. BCG is nitrided finish. And the only thing that looks standard is the cam pin. Which I will be replacing with a POF roller cam pin. I did replace the buffer tube spring with a Tubbs flat wire spring. I also installed a Larue MBT trigger, LMT muzzle brake, Luth grip and PRS stock. Had to go with a Luth stock. Because of the longer then normal charging handle. I had to move the cheek riser back to clear. I also replaced the charging handle latch with a extended one from Strike Industries. Magazine is really heavy duty. They only offer a five round right now. I did send an email and they claim they will have a ten rounder in the future. Took it out to the range. To sight it in. Loaded up some test rounds. Every thing went great. Recoil was not a issue at all. I wasn’t going to buy this rifle after reading some of the negative comments on this forum. So I looked on the internet. And everyone that bought one was happy with theirs. Right now with my starting load I‘m shooting one MOA with 185 grain Berger VLD bullets with MP 700 powder. The powder is a bulk powder similar to Accurate Magpro. Ejection is around three to four o’clock. Brass looks like I shot it out of a bolt gun. No case swipe or grated primers. So I just loaded up some more that are slightly hotter. Searching for a node between 2700 -2950 FPS. Will update once I have worked up a load that I’m happy with.
