Gunsmithing Short Action Question

I know nothing about building rifles, so be gentle.

If I buy a short action rifle say in .308 is all it takes to convert the rifle to a different Short Action caliber such as .260 or 6.5 Grendel is change out the barrel and bolt face?

Re: Short Action Question

Magazine modification is a key issue with the Grendel. Better to start with a .223 for Grendel, plus you can open the bolt face UP wich is necessary since only PTG make a 700 Bolt with PPC face, and it's just the body. Then you have to replace the factory extractor with a SAKO style with a PPC cut, and BAM! You got a Grendel............

Re: Short Action Question

So, for .260, I would just change the barrel. For .223 I would get a new bolt and change the barrel and get new mags? For Grendel I would get the new bolt (with the Sako style extractor), new barrel and new mags?

What if I went single shot/no mag?
