Imagine how much air time this would be getting if these traitors were Trump Supporters, or even Republican-leaning. The entire "Right-wing terrorism" narrative would be exploding again. Instead, given traitors' political leanings, the media is crickets. Also, note the charges they are facing: "conspiracy and 'communication of restricted data." That sounds very light charges, like as in a few years in prison.

Punishment with a chance at freedom, bring them in a sub put life jackets on them and launch them out of a torpedo tube. If they can surface before running out of air they would be free and floating in the middle of the ocean.

Seems a bit contrived to allow the picture with sec nav be released.....trying to control the suppositions of what happened.

Is the sonar controlled by something similar to a single pole residential light switch? Maybe someone leaned against a bulkhead and switched it off by mistake.......guessing the SONAR rate was making a head call.

I talked to one of my coworkers who is a retired sub commanding officer and told them about some of the idiotic things said in this thread by know nothings about inertial navigation, soundings on nautical charts, and submarine operations in general.

We had a good laugh.

How do metal strength tests get faked for decades? Isn't there random double checking done? Or, is this typical military buried in the paperwork type of thing?

Best guess? Test was not performed, but the check box was checked and the entry blank was filled in on the form...

The woman was quoted as saying she though that "it was stupid" that the navy required a test at -100F.

You would be shocked- SHOCKED- at the amount of data that is misrepresented, forged, and outright faked in scientific journals.

This could easily be one of those things where one lie mandates that others are told. The first time was a compromise to meet a schedule, was threatened to let it pass or else (verbally, not traceable of course), or some other such bullshit. When the coupon comes in representing the sample it gets the green light as it isn’t quite so out of spec that it will “cause a problem”. Once it’s passed, the % of elements or treatments doesn’t change because that would require notifying the Navy of ALL the purchase orders the material was used on. That can bankrupt a company and be serious prison time if intent can be shown.

This is how shit goes bad. Real bad. There are smelters who allegedly falsified aluminum specs for material that went on satellites and other end products - for almost 2 decades. And yet other companies who have caused aircraft failures for this type of shit.

I have had several parts we made go into orbit on some high visibility projects. It requires much nicotine to watch it go up, despite QC check-offs at all levels of manufacturing and assembly that would boggle the mind, and test units that are identical. Somebody who is doing this on purpose and putting American lives and national security at stake for a dollar deserves very little mercy IMO. How they sleep is beyond me.

In the vid there is a graphic explanation for subzero temp testing

Tougher steel alloys have a face centered cubic crystal structure (FCC) where an extra atom sits at each face of the cube.''

Below a certain temperature steel with a body centered (bcc) cubic crystal structure will suddenly become weak while steel with a face centered cubic structure (fcc) keeps it toughness. A Charpy impact test at low and normal temperature allows to differentiate between those.
The crystaline structure of steel can be influenced in the foundry during the casting. The alloying, the temperature of the melt, the speed of cooling and/or an additional tempering will all effect the structure.

That's actually not the uss Connecticut... Pic is of a los Angeles class...

Current uss Connecticut is a Seawolf class and has no dive planes on the tower and doesn't have red paint on the hull

Holy shit!

Just listened to this.

Seems like someone was being protected.

Inspector was ready to shit can most of the crew for failure to make improvements of deficiencies and an actual strike with a pier, but within 24 hours reverses his position than is relieved.

Coincidence? Perhaps, but as ready as the navy is to shit can people these days it seems odd.

No depth soundings for hours. Fuck just about every boat I have been on a has a hummingbird that works great and this billion dollar ship not only has broken sonar but a crew that don’t notify and take immediate action.

The San Francisco is now a MTS (Moored Training Ship) at the Nuke Prototype in Goose Creek SC. My son worked on the conversion.
