Just for the heck of it, I tried 35 grains of Varget behind the 140 ELDm's while working on my OCW tests. It was a the only Varget load I tried. Manual shows 2550 mv but I haven't chronoed it yet. 5 rounds went through the same hole at 100 yds. I thought this was a fluke so I loaded 5 more with the same results. I got some .2's and .3's with H4350 and RL 17 but the Varget load was a clear winner. I'm just curious what you guys think about the low velocity being a hindrance (I'd use it for my 750 yd or less load) AND if the faster Varget powder/load would be harder on the throat than 41.0 grains of H4350 or 41.5 grains of RL 17 - my next best loads accuracy wise? Thank you for your input!

It's really up to you. I'd verify over a chrono or another means to get MV but you don't HAVE to use 4350 just like you don't HAVE to use varget.

as long as you get good results ; I think you can do a little better than 35 grains though

You are 300fps slower than my 140 ELD load. No way I would give up 200-300fps of velocity for a tight 100 yard group. That said it's your rifle and your decision if a slow load works for you and your shooting.

Rob - what powder and barrel length are you running. FWIW, I get 2550 out of my 6.5 Creedmoor using 42gr of 4350 out of a 16.5 inch barrel. Take mine to 700 yds on a regular basis.

Exactly. Unless you're shootin' for beers or bragging rights, why handicap such a great cartridge.....

I am running a 27" barrel with H4350. Getting 2850fps with the 140 ELDs and 2820fps with the 147 ELDs. I like to get the most out of the cartridge. My other 28" Creedmoor is shooting the factory 140 ELD load at 2880fps.

^^ I'm running a 26 inch bartlein and getting 2830 with 42.6 grains of h4350 and 140 eld-ms
