How can you determine what the FoV of a scope is — at magnifications other than the minimum and maximum values given in the manufacturer's specs?


Besides the obvious, of course :
"Buy the scope, set out a tape measure, record, caluclate — done."


➧ But, before I bite the bullet and type my CC number in the field.... — I'd like to know what FoV I can expect at different magnifications.

Because to me FoV is a big deal. To March it was so much that they developed their Wide Angle scopes.


Just to see what FoV are typical — I did a little survey of manufacturer published FoV (min. and max. magnification). The table below shows the data I found.

Are there magnified optics without a fixed eye relief?


Sorry for flaunting my optics ignorance so unabashedly with this question.....


I love my red dots:
No matter where my eye is — sometimes 2 feet away from the optic, sometimes almost touching it — I always have a shot.

However, I'd like something with a little more magnification, even 2x or 3x would be great.

I understand that adding a magnifier will change my eye relief — and my unlimited-eye-relief red dot turns into a regular scope with a fixed eye relief of only a few inches.


➧ Is there anything out there that will do this trick?
➧ Or are we still waiting for that innovation?

I have a Impact NBK short action with a mag bolt I would like to trade for a SA 737r with a mag bolt, 75° or 90° bolt, it doesn't matter to me. Let me know if there are any takers.

I have a 26", 6mm Creedmoor, 1:8 twist, Criterion bolt action prefit barrel (Varmint Contour) for sale. This is a savage small shank barrel that requires a barrel nut, not included. I had it on my Zermatt Origin, it would obviously also work on other Savage small shank actions.

I've shot 620 rounds through it, 400 was factory Hornady Match 108 ELD-M, 220 was me reloading trying to replicate that ammo. Definitely still has some barrel life left. It shot very well. I only swapped it out for a straight contour to get my rifle to balance a little better. It weighs 4lb-10oz and is threaded 5/8x24. Threads are in good condition, not sure why they look so bad in the picture.

Hey guys quick question. I picked up a barrel second hand and had questions on the barrel threading.

The crown is recessed and the threads are forward from the crown. I’ve never seen a barrel like this and was wondering if I should just chop this thread extension off and thread at the crown.

This will be used with a suppressor. It’s also a Lothar walther rim x .22 barrel if that matters.
