Here is one of the things I done today. I have had a few guys inquire about my Anschutz so I thought I would put up a few photos from today. So far I have exactly 929 rounds through the Anschutz, today I shot 430 rounds out of my 1710 XLR of which 380 went on paper. That equals 76 Five shot groups. Some groups have some questionable shots, some were me and I called those and some just flat out missed the mark. If I count every single shot regardless of what may have happened the gun produced 57 out of 76 groups that was 1/2" or less. Out of the Federal GM Match, Lapua Center X, SK Pistol Match, SK STD Plus and Eley Tenex Pistol, 46 of 60 was 1/2" or less. The ones that was out was very close and probably me. My setup is not 100% rock solid but I can hold it pretty steady. Guys, please don't think I am bragging about this. I am simply putting up some information for a couple of guys and to share with everyone who may be on the fence about getting a new rifle. Also, here is a link for the Anschutz site for anyone who wants to see. Mine is on the bottom left. https://www.anschutznorthamerica.com/rimfire-trainer-series.html

Thanks for putting this up. That is a nice rifle you have there. Good luck with it.

Nice rifle! I have a 1710 HB that I ended up putting the barreled action into a LSS-22 chassis. It shoots as well as my Vudoo and it was nice to get it out of the wood stock and be able to put a bipod on it without having to worry about messing up the wood. I wish MDT would make a LSS-22 chassis for the 1727. The 1727 stock is so rounded in the forend it's difficult to get consistent groups with it.

    Fret,

I thought about doing the same with my 1712 Silhouette model. Several years back I tried mounting a bipod and made two small impressions in the Schnabel stock. Lately I had seriously considered getting the MDT chassis for the 1712 and eventually talked myself into getting the 1710 XLR with the justification I would sell the 1712. Well, moving time forward, I really don't want to sell the 1712 and still want the MDT. I can't win.

Was the MDT worth it? Did it eliminate shifting points of impact?

Is the only difference between a 1712 and 1710 barreled action the barrel contour? I have been reading what I can about the two items and it appears the same, 2-stage, trigger can be had in either.

These barreled actions in the XLR chassis have me VERY interested! Keep up the good shooting and your observations are appreciated!

I think the MDT chassis enabled me to shoot more consistent groups so it was well worth it.

bnanaphone, you are correct in the difference between the barreled action for a 1710 vs a 1712.

Fret, I was afraid you would say that. Your setup looks great. (y)

Do you guys know if Annie sells rifles with straight taper barrels (repeaters only)? I have not been able to find one yet. I know of one guy on here who says he has a straight taper 0.900 factory barrel.

The 1710 series is straight. The tapered one is 1712.

You have the gun, so you would know. But, I could have sworn when I talked to them they said it was tapered but heavier than their "standard" barrel.

    What is the diameter then?

I'll measure both and get back to you.

Interesting find. I really can't see the taper in the 1710 but it's there. 11" from the tip measured .834" at the tip measured .827" for a difference of .007". The 1712 taper is noticeable. 10.75" (as far as I could go) from the tip measured .732" at the tip was .710" for a difference of .022".

For comparison my BRNO Model 4 is straight tapered at .788".

Don't know why I didn't think about this sooner but this evening I put the 1712 in the XLR chassis and it was like night and day. It was so much easier to shoot. I see what you are talking about Fret, by making the gun more consistent with groups. I'm going to call XLR tomorrow and see if they sell this chassis to the public. I know the Anschutz is not listed on their website. Did you have to give $399 for your MDT? That seems to be the going price no matter where I find it for sale. Where did you get yours?

Thanks. Wonder why they aren't moving to bigger barrels like 0.900 for the guns they sell in chassis?

I just bought it from MDT and I think that was the price.

    EddieE,

Not sure but you can call Anschutz and ask. I just called and talked to them about selling the XLR chassis and they will sell one but it cost $695 + shipping. I also talked to XLR and they said they couldn't sell to the public now because that particular one is an OEM product. I will have to get the MDT, there is to much difference in the aluminum and wood.

Fret, did you have to add an extended magazine release to the MDT or did it come with an extended mag release designed to engage the factory Anschutz release?

I've got a 1710 Anniversary that I'm itching to shoot, but don't want to use the stock and it seems like the MDT is the way to go...

    Rolltide,

The Anschutz XLR chassis is now listed and on sale on the Anschutz site. I will be getting one tomorrow, already sent them two messages telling them I want one. Also, with the XLR you don't need the extended mag release. There is plenty enough room to get your finger in. You don't have to push from the bottom like with a wood stock.
