The perfect vehicle to go off-grid with. Good basic platform to start with, no computers to track you, easy to work on, bare essentials, and you can let your imagination run wild. Hell, make a camper out of it if ya want. Mac;)

I agree. Put a couple of lockers in the diffs and you have a great off grid vehicle.

Run screaming away. Not that those aren’t really cool. Love those old Jeep trucks. But the amount of money you would have to put in that is gigantic to even get it to be something you could call really reliable.

@gayguns Has one of these and understands the money pit nature of these.

If you want one get one someone else has restored to superb condition or resto mod. Trying to do it yourself will end up in a massive money pit. But thanks for posting Maggot it’s always cool to see what’s out there.

But, but, but? Old. No computers. Manual locks. Manual windows. It MUST be reliable. I mean, no computers!

Bwahahaha! I’ll just drive my modern vehicle by all of the diy fudd mechanics working on their reliable cars in ther garages…

I love old Willys Jeeps. Buddy's old man had one growing up west of Austin as 13 yr. olds. The town's only cop knew his old man and it was ok for my buddy to drive on the streets and the outlying hill country, as long as we didn't get close to Austin's city limit. We could even do u turns in the road.

Rules were a little different then.

Wonder if there are any pics of the metal before that wonderful teal paint job?

Def a restoration there.... now if that engine were in good shape and it was 12 volt (post 1957) I personally think it'd be a good buy. But Ooooo-eee are they a money suck. I have a 1957 Wagon (12 volt) Luckily theres a few places you can still find orig parts, and then a couple places that do decent replacement on some things. You're probably looking a chunk of money 25-30k to bring her back. But as base projects go... Ive seen worse for the same asking.

Those engines were awesome high torque low revs. Before it came to me, my Hurricane engine was replaced with a Corvette's used 327 short block... that I wasted 1800. on rebuilding by some fucking inbred idiots... that I am now replacing with a new 350. So...yeah. BIG ASS MONEY PIT. In for a penny in for a pound. Had it 10 years now and its a part of me. Im in Beverly Hills area .. I drive around town and Im constantly being filmed... my dog propped up looking out the passenger window. Fuck ur snooty beamers and RR. This Willys is star of the show.

And Christmas I go full Norman Rockwell with the decos. Lit wreath on the grill with a classy silver reindeer bust with antlers centered in front of it, hollyberry garland across the brush bar, and back of the hood... Little stuffed Santa hold a skate board...

Heres a nicely restored engine. If that engine is good... someone buy it.
