You are not wrong on the reason. But a waiver of the English test can be obtained.
 
Germans, Italians, French and just about every other group of immigrants that came here, wanted to learn English out of respect for the their new home. Some would not even allow family to speak their native language in their homes. Some only spoke it in their homes. They knew it was a privilege not a right to be here.

It seems the Hispanics want you to learn their language. I say eff them.

The big differences are the sheer number of Hispanophones here, and our next door neighbor status so close to so many places in which Spanish is the majority language. I'm not saying that one should just deal with Spanish in Minnesota, but it makes perfect sense in places like Southern California and Miami. There just aren't clear-cut lines like we have on a map where language use does or should change.

Ah, but you're only 90 miles from Cuba to Key West, not Kankakee. Big difference. Entirely unfair? Somewhat. I've known people trying to advance in certain, shall we say, industries, with zero Spanish proficiency, and it ain't pretty. The moral of the story is come prepared.

They would use language as a barrier. I would always try English first, see where it goes. Then I would speak Spanish to them and all of a sudden they would smile and out comes the King's English. Every time they would compliment my pronunciations and ask where I learned my Spanish. While growing up and out with my grandmother, when she encountered friends or other cholos, she never spoke Spanish to them, only English, despite their greetings or whatever in Spanish. Family was different. Yes the demonrat Spanish was passable, but clearly elementary and well rehearsed. Would they last on the street beyond the first 90 seconds.....Meh....I always thought German was a great language, especially hearing some tall smokin' hot blode German girl (in heels) barking out orders at me while I.....oops...:oops:..wrong thread!

I am not against bilingualism, I am against people not respecting where they live. The Cubans did not come from wanting to. They came because they think they were forced to. They are Exiles not just immigrants. They think they can take what they want from us. Even though they did not stay and fight. So don't get to sharpened on history. History is...they lost.

Maybe ask the Incas or the Aztecs about Pizarro and Cortéz, if its history you want. Oh that's right, they are gone.

I walk over to the produce area wanting some Bok Choy and Baby Broccoli, my way impeded by one whale texting on her phone right in the way and another whale looking all hippy trying to get her veggies.

In the middle of the mix is a produce attendant trying to stock his chiller.

Too much traffic so I headed to the fish cooler case for some ginger garlic sauce before returning to see one whale has finished her text and moved on while the other lady is in conversation with the produce man speaking some real shitty Spanish "Bonus DEEASS, Moochoh Grassyass"

I apologize for being in his way and with a perfect Southwest Asian accent only Joe Biden would equate with Seven Eleven workers he tells me he doesnt mind the forced breaks and he is doing fine.

So apparently the enlightened liberal SJW in my town thinks anyone with less need for sunscreen than a porcelain Geisha is from south of the border and being able to speak the slightest bit of Spanish proves their enlightenment and assuages their misappropriated guilt.

That C you next Tuesday has no idea how condescending her shit is.

The majority of my ancestors are European. [ shocker ] They immigrated and assimilated. That included learning English. I have no problem with people speaking their native tongue, so long as they learn English. I just wish they would wait in line and use the front door.

As far as the politicians pandering, they are being true to their nature.
