2022 Check List

1. Moving to a free state that still believes in personal freedom and the constitution.
While I get the sentiment and have contemplated it, I disagree. Obviously all our situations are different but I like to go against the grain. Living in the Commie shit stain of California has alot of drawbacks. It's all what you make it.
I own the guns I want regardless of the masters degree. I go and do business with like minded people and I fight the rules every single day for nothing more to gain than pissing of library's.
On the plus side:
All of this is my extended back yard

A noble sentiment.

I voted with my feet. I'd rather my taxes fund some other state.

As beautiful as it is in Cali, it is my lifelong dream is to never set foot there again (unless we have another election cycle like 1984, perhaps).

Everyone should do a 10 year "California Tour"........ Mine was from January 1987 through 1997 in Orange County....... jmp1 has some good points in his posting.... A man who can be honest with himself knows when it is time to move on.
Went there to go through Oceaneering's College of Oceanering
Left there to go build computer chip plants

I would have agreed with the California tour thing a few years back.

I still have family out there, and occasionally have to travel for family issues. Otherwise, all I can say is, every time I set foot there, I just feel like "people like me" aren't welcome. Can't wait to get out, despite the time I enjoy with family.

Been to Calif. one time, passed through as a young kid driving back to Texas from Wash.in '64 right after after JFK was assassinated. The place suc't then. People drove like they were possessed, dead dogs in the road everywhere, no green, just asphalt, glaring bright sun and gravel medians.

A CHP wearing shorts pulled us over for some minor infraction. He didn't even write a warning. He was super friendly, smiley but talked funny. I heard my parents talking about him after we drove away and thats the first time I heard the word 'homosexual'...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Here's the thing bout the state I love to hate. It's the geography...not the politics. My piece of this place is more hillbilly than alot of places in the south.

I'm 5 hours from home. Here for my daughter's basketball tournament. Been walking through crowds of masked morons....maskless...waiting for someone to step up. No takers!!
Just took this picture of the sun setting on what could be the last year of this great republic. Don't give in gentlemen!!
Too many great men gave all for it!!

I like your mind set.

I've come to a bit of a different one: America NEEDS places where politics can do what they do. It's my opinion that if states would just leave each other alone, Americans would get along much better. As long as liberals and conservatives (or, whatever labels you want to use) have some place to go where they don't have to fight the "other side" for the laws/lifestyles/culture they want to live in, then we would have political peace.

I studied sociology in college, and it has been found that collective efficacy is highest when homogeneity is high (like minded people all living together, with less "diversity" of values [I say values, as distinct from diversity of thought]).

When core values are aligned, society functions better. As long as there is a place I can live where politics aren't imposing on the life I choose to live, I'm happy to let others have things their way "over there." But when I have to fight at the federal level to keep my state level rights, that's when I have a problem.

as a Florida native in the military I have been stationed all over in AK, NC, TX, CA, and now OR….there is something nice being surrounded by liberals and totally go against everything they stand for hahah

california is the most beautiful place i have been. it has it all. sure, you have to travel from one place to another to see it, but my GOD is it beautiful. and the women…..you havent lived until you’ve spent some time there with the women.

the political insanity? the traffic? and a lot of fake personalities out there; but those same fake personalities make it super easy for someone who isnt fake to get ahead. i will say, i didnt experience anything like i expected in the 4 months i was there. what i heard, and what i experienced, were worlds apart.

The 4 years I lived in The Socialist Republik of Kalipornia were like living in a bipolar hell. I enjoyed the places I went - and absolutely hated the people I had to deal with daily. I finally thru in the towel and got back out. Since then, I’ve had to go a few times for work, but will never be back for pleasure. I’m just not wired correctly to deal with the idiots. Obviously there ARE good, decent, normal people living there. I just kept having to rub elbows with the other kind of people. No thanks!

My uncle worked for FEMA in Cali. during one of their annual natural disasters. He was a true native son of Texas and someone I looked up to growing up. He taught me how to hunt, fish, play football, poker and drink. The basics. He also instilled in me to study the classics and works of the great writers.

He came back from Cali. shaking his head and said "Those people are crazy."

Spent a couple months here. Enjoyed the time and people (very few) were great. Only city I visited from there was Reno.

Been to LA and SF a few times. Left nothing behind and never going back.

Drove through California recently - Northern CA was beautiful, and no one there seemed to give a damn about wearing masks or otherwise. Tons of billboards from farmers damning Newsom for dumping all their water into the ocean. I couldn't imagine living in the big cities there.

I like the checklist, tons of things for me to work on...

I did two, neither one was 10 years. One at NAS Lemoore in the late 1990's and one Ridgecrest 2014-2016.

I am done!

Free at last, Free at last. I have broke the chains holding me down in California. I had 10nyrs to go on my union pension and said Fuck it ! ’’ He who trades Liberty for security gets neither ‘’ Living in a second amendment county and a a free state ! That’s the moving truck in my avatar driving into freedom.

I consider myself behind enemy lines, but staying put because I can't find a replacement for my property (at a reasonable price and effort) in places like Idaho, Montana, or Wyoming. Also, I'm not getting any younger.

This is the other problem associated with retreating. I'm way too late. Property prices and availability to replace what I'm leaving behind don't add up to the wages. In my trade(lineman).....I'd take a huge pay cut yet still have a comifornia sized mortgage. Granted, there are areas of the country that the wages and cost of living are more in line but the things in the pics I posted above pretty important to me. Big mountains and the Pacific.

This can not continue forever. I would guess no more than another year at the longest.

My biggest hope in seeing prices drop downward is the upcoming midterm elections. With the way things have went there is zero chance of the Dems holding both houses with the possibility of them losing both.

Then again there was no chance trump loses to Biden either….

I look at property in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana everyday online.

I grew up in Wyoming and Montana and it kills me to see what a 3bed 2 bath house cost there built in the past 10 years. Bozeman, Missoula, Idaho Falls, Casper and Great Falls have been busting $400,000 for a very plain house.

Anything in the Ken and Barbie dream home realm is $750,000 all day long. We are only talking about a 3500 square foot house on 5 acres with a shop.

I have been looking for the last year.

If you find 5 acres with an out building 3+br and 2+ br for 750k you had prop ought to buy it as it’s beyond rare. Unless your are hours away and in the middle of nothing. ( We can’t throw down that kinda cash).

I just got back from looking around rapid city, sd and western Wyoming. For 650k you can get a dump in the middle of nowhere 3 car detach and 16 acres. It’s just about a gut job.

No. No it was not. Not even close.

Not joking about the complete gut either.

The 16 acres and tons of trash on it as well.

I'm sure I will get some flack for this statement:
Politicians / elections and public officials will come and go.... My concern is with the USD ( $ ) and the Federal Reserve. Valuation, established by the County, on my homestead went up 23% this year, along with taxes. Hopefully during the next 12 months something is going to stop inflation and allow prices to go back to pre-pandemic levels.

Paul Volcker broke the spiraling inflation:

Mr. Volcker’s greatest historical mark was in eight years as Fed chairman. When he took the reins of the central bank, the nation was mired in a decade-long period of rapidly rising prices and weak economic growth. Mr. Volcker, overcoming the objections of many of his colleagues, raised interest rates to an unprecedented 20 percent, drastically reducing the supply of money and credit

This is our future.

At which point moving may not be an option any more.

Though the interest rates increasing will push home prices down it will take time.

I'm not laughing at you, My Friend..... I'm laughing with you. After the snow finally melted (5 years ago) I started dragging shit into a burn pile... I burned day and night without knowing the need for a burn permit, for months... I'd walk out at 5 am and the ground was glowing an orange color from the continuous burning. Next was getting rid of the weeds and getting irrigation going.... Around year 4, the place started to shape up. Neighbors did not turn me in for burning because they were glad for the trash to disappear. I wish I could offer more encouragement you guys.

Lol…. I should have taken pics.

Trashed out vehicles through the property. A gooseneck trailer stuff, well over full, of ACTUAL trash. Tre walls had good on them, light switches in wrong rooms, floors height didn’t match.

The realtor made the common in the way out that he was curious as to why it didn’t get snatched up as soon as it hit the market. He stepped inside, walked three steps and stayed he now understood as to why.
