Does anyone have any real-world feedback from running a 6mm BR variant (6 BR/BRA/Dasher/etc) in a factory AI? I have a short-action AX with the small firing pin, and am thinking about a 6 BRA barrel to play with next season. I've heard the HRD Gear mag spacer kit is good, but would like to hear it from some of you guys, if possible.

    Thanks!

?‍♀️ ...haven’t shot it yet though. I’m using the HRD mag kits. The feed lips took some tweaking to prevent the follower from nose diving on the last 2 rounds, but I think I have it figured out.

Cool, thanks! I'll be interested to see how it goes once you start putting rounds downrange. You doing a straight 6BR?

I can't say I want to have to tweak the mag lips, but my plan would be to buy dedicated mags to use for these (with the spacer kit), and keep another set of mags for regular short-action calibers.

Straight 6BR. Jon Roberts has been running Dasher in his AX for at least a year and Rhett has 6BRA in his AX. It didn’t take much to get them to feed, just flared open the front a little. I’ll keep you updated on mine ?

Was running 6 dasher in my AE for the last 1.5 years with PVA mag kits. Recently sold the AE and moved the dasher barrel over to my AT with HRD mag kits, been running that a couple months now.

The AT runs perfect with no mods other than the HRD mag kits, whereas the AE needed some feed lip tweaking and still wasn't 100% reliable when it came to stripping the last 2 rounds out of the magazine.

@Saf3sh00t3r thanks for the reply! Looks like an awesome setup.

Do you exclusively use the 105 JLKs? Any reason on shooting them over the 105 Hybrids?

Consistent between lots. Little change on the ogive location.

Berger like Hornady change lot over lot. Some would argue an FOS, but it’s just my experience.

I shot the eld-m and had to buy a lot to keep some consistency, but even that was not very consistent. They still shot pretty good.

I shoot like shit so need all the help I can get.

Do you know off the top of your head how the JLK compares to the Hybrid in terms of BC? Do you run the pointed version?

I’ve been pointing the 140 Hybrids, and while I’ve only documented a small increase in BC I can’t argue with the consistency past 600 yards.

One other thing I’ve wondered, is with the JLKs being considered a VLD shape, are they as forgiving as the Hybrids are for seating depth as the throat erodes? The 140 Hybrids have shown no effect from throat erosion over many rounds and going from a 0.010” jump to a 0.060” jump.

    Little difference.

    .286 pointed

    .268 un-pointed

The reality is I haven’t seen a difference between a .015 to .030 jump, but my smith has also done a shallower throat, so am not sure if that also affects the jump.

The reality I find a good starting point and never chase the lands. I just shot the thing.

I’d rather shoot, clean and buy barrels, than spend a ton of time finding loads. I replace the barrel when it opens up past 3/4” and it doesn’t shrink after a good copper clean out.

I’ve ran about 3000+ rds of dasher & currently BRA through my AX. I’m using HRD mag kits in my mags. This thing feeds flawlessly. At first I had a few hiccups but it was cause I had a short (.064) freebore but once I opened it up to .110” I have yet to have ANY issues. I can feed rounds as fast as i can come back on target without any jamming. Last match at RO, on the helo, ran 8rds on target in 25secs. Never once worried about a jam...cleaned that stage also?. I’ve swapped the kit to just about all of my 10 mags and never had to adjust anything. I started with the other spacers that you have to cut the follower (hated that) and they work good as well. But I really love the option of using my mag for other calibers.

    Buy HRD soacers
Keep your freebore .104” or mire

Shoot the shit out of the rifle

been shooting 6br for a while out of my post2014 AX.
had barrels spun up by dave tooley at the time.
feeding was a issue, but it was just a play around rifle in the beginning, something for new shooters and kids to shoot.
accurate "actually super accurate" no recoil etc.
then i picked up a few mags from mile high, they run lights out.
i shoot factory lapua L105's more often than not if i dont have time to reload.
which is becoming more often now that the kids have 1000's of activities.

I did, I had lots of trouble with flipping brass on extraction. Feeding was not as smooth, I figured the longer ramp in front of the spacer was an issue. Lots of my brass had a mark on the shoulder from that spike on the right side of inside action, it’s part of the ramp.

I kinda gave up, cutting the mags back then wasn’t something I wanted to do. Then i ended up selling that rifle for a short action. I was going through barrels to fast to keep up with constant ordering the large 1.350” tenons. In the short action I could find 1.250” tenons all day.

I'm having serious feeding issues. Its normally the 8th round that is the culprit. The bolt body shoulder behind the bolt head catches the round under the one stripped to go into the chamber. I've tried everything. I'm beginning to think it isnt a mag issue. I've ran 3 different mags with HRD kits and 1 with PVA. The PVA runs the best, but out of running a mag 10 times, 5 of them have issues like @tennturk had. I have played with feed lips, polished the followers and spacers, everything. Feeling defeated.

Not to mention, it's hard as hell on the brass and the 1st 3 rounds are having trouble going up the feed ramp but will go, just scars up the bullet.

I figured out the nose dives and last rounds issues. I posted my number give me a call. I’ll walk you through what I did.

GT can lick my balls too...

Isn't that kind of its thing? ;)

I'm running 6 Norma Dasher in my AX with no issues, and I think the extra .050 length compared to a regular 6 Dasher helps feeding because I don't have any feeding issues even with short 55gr varmint bullets.
