Well folks, after 11 long years of good experiences with Paypal, some dumb dumb on gunbroker had to put "for Gunbroker auction xxxxx" in the notes. Account frozen, no access to funds for 180 days. It's been a good run, but time to switch to alternative sources of money transferring. What is everyone using these days outside of USPS Money Orders? I have CashApp, Venmo, and Apple Pay, but haven't looked into their policies on these type of transactions. Also, not sure what protection it gives me against people pulling their funds back.

Lol that's what I was telling the guy at Paypal when I was on the phone with him. I told him my buddies put some really stupid crap in there but the violation specifically said it went against their policy on firearms and such. Their claim was "there's no way to validate age". I told him the transaction was for brass...brass! "Yea, definitely can't sell that!". Pretty sure he had no idea what I was talking about; he just knew that crime scenes have casings so they must be bad.

Overall he was pleasant to work with. He tried just letting me go but then said they have to initiate the claim on my behalf that it was a one off and an accident; which he proceeded to do. It's being reviewed in the next 24 hours so hopefully I at least don't have to wait 180 days to have access to my own moolah in there. Guess it's back to the old school ways in order to sell stuff on here. Or maybe this is a wakeup call to curb my online garage-sale-ing addictions. Hah

Hope you didn’t have a lot in your account. They will probably keep it.

I'm wondering if you returned the money right away if they would have still frozen the account. I guess it is just a matter of time until we all get our accounts frozen.

If it’s an item sold on eBay too you’d think it would be no issue and at least he wasn’t an asshole. I wonder too how businesses get by. Many of times I have used PayPal checkout on EuroOptic plus other. Hopefully you get your money which I’m sure you will.

Yea that's what I told him..I'm not sure how there are gun businesses that accept Paypal. Nothing against them, I just don't see how Paypal is on board with that. They claim some sites go through a vetting process on age and such and that's how they are willing to let it go. Beats me.

But yea, $3,600 sits in Paypal jail right now. Woof. Here's to hoping it gets resolved and I can pull my money out and be done with them.

Good luck with that I hope your money gets returned to you promptly. I would also leave a negative review for the dipshit that got your account locked.

I'll update you when I hear back. Probably won't be until Monday. Fortunately I think I got one of the good ones. He was actually going to a gunshow this weekend and made sure to put stuff in there like "11 year Paypal account, accidental transaction, seller will change contact on gunbroker to an e-mail not associated with his Paypal account". Here's to hoping the people that review this ticket take it.

Holy shit that’s a lot of brass.

The brass transaction was like $126. The rest wasn't what flagged it, but they hold it ALL until after 180 days or this ticket gets resolved. Let's hope the latter.

Right? This was from a bunch of reloading supplies and my 338 I sold yesterday. I like to keep the funds in there until the buyer at least receives the stuff. I guess I should just transfer it to my bank and if there’s any dispute I could refund from there; not PayPal.

I transfer right away for that very reason. Worse case you can zelle them the money.

Yea lesson learned on this one. Hopefully lesson learned by a slap on the wrist and not a 180 day ban. Earlier it let me log in but I couldn't do anything. Now I can't even log on. We shall see what happens.

Clean out that bank account now. If they opt ascribe over 3600 in penalties they'll pull more from your bank. They can seize however much they want. Call bank in the morning block paypal from pulling money.

Forget about the 180 days you better hope your 3600 is not gone forever.

Yea I just talked to my bank and the guy on the phone claimed I can't just block any vendor from pulling. I have to wait until they make the request to pull and then my bank can deny the transaction. I know that's worst case scenario but at this point I'm just praying it gets resolved on Monday, I pull my funds, and I shut down my account.

I had my paypal hacked ~10 years ago. Someone used my paypal account to pay for postage on two packages going to Russia. I called paypal and had my money back that day. They were surprisingly easy to deal with. Hopefully you're situation will be resolved quickly also.

I don't think they will pull any additional money from your bank. I think they will keep the money that is in your account forever.

At minimum probably send him a bill saying you owe another 1200 to cover our investigation.

Edds is correct. I read through their very long Paypal User Agreement and basically it says they will charge a minimum of $2,500 and will withdraw it from your Paypal balance. Nowhere does it say that they will attempt to pull any funds from your bank account.

Yea if they want to send me a bill, then that's where the good ol legal battle begins. But I doubt it will get to that point. I think worst case scenario is that they take my $3,600 and shut down my account. Best case is they either give me access back or take the $126 and I go on my way. It could be one of those two, or something in-between. No sense fretting about it until they decide what to do; all that extra stress and worry doesn't make their decision any different.

Did you put no notes if using PayPal? If so I would try to recover whatever PayPal charges you from the dumbass that got your account locked.

Yea, I will work on that after this gets resolved. So interesting enough, I read their Acceptable Use Policy and it says "(j) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories". The charge that they froze my account over was brass which is not a firearm, ammunition, or firearm accessory; unless they have it defined in some other magical place. Time to see what they say on my ticket.

Yea someone mentioned that above as well.

I would suggest you clear out that bank account to the minimum level to keep it open, move like all the funds to your savings account or a different account and make sure you don't have any "Overdraft" protection on that account.

As a note, what I did, is I refused to give PayPal my financial information on the recent update so they can't legally hold a balance for me. If I get money, I have to accept the transfer and then it gets sent to my bank right away.

But it's not going to be a 180 day ban if they don't like you.
It's a permanent ban, but they keep your money for 180 days or as long as they damn well please to see if they can rob you of any more.

Zelle seems to be working good for most folks these days.

    Change them interest compounded daily.

Zelle is good, but like a wire transfer. There is no retrieving of funds once sent.
My bank runs our zelle, they said it’s protected through them, haven’t had a problem yet so couldn’t tell you exactly how they protect it.

You agree to their terms and conditions.
It sucks, but it's true. And yet people still willingly 'jump' to use it, because it's "so easy" and "so convenient".

There truly oughta be a "Second Amendment Funds" type system or something like that. One where SUPPORTERS of Freedom, Liberty, and Personal Security are able to use for anything legal.

As opposed to supporting the communists.... but anyways.

The only thing about Guntab that worries me is money sits in escrow until the transaction is complete. Seems to me that would leave an open door for the buyer to come in the back door so to speak.

That, and the fact that "Guntab" is ONLY viable in the U.S. Not anywhere else.

I had a close call. Guy paid me like $400 for some ammo. No comment. PayPal said it recognized unusual sales and locked the funds. Said they would release with shipping delivery info or some long wait time.

I refunded and told the guy I needed clear funds. He never sent anything.

I keep $25 or less in there. I don’t trust those fucks.

You knew about the PP problems for years, yet you continued to use them. Play stupid games....
