AI AICS 5 round mags

$103 and change for 2 to my door- about the same as 3 magpul aics. Not a steal by any stretch, but if you want AI...

The only one I got could use some company. But nay. Priorities. :(

1J04, there was another company 'some years ago' whom were competing with a 'double-stack 10' but I can't remember who they are/were. And did they work out, in the end?

Not trying to sway the thread, as it is (relatively) on topic. Sorta.

Well @hlee is getting 2 for just over a Benjamin and that's pretty damn good and I'm not big on 10 rounders soooo. Shit. This is either gonna screw up my next purchase plan or add to it.
Thx fo da info @Sean the Nailer.

1J04, hang on a sec. Somebody help me out here, but
A- who/what was the company doing the double-stack 10's?
B- did they work out, or didn't they? I truly don't remember.
C- were they not "the same length" or damn close to an AICS 5 round, single stack mag?

See what happens when you get memory problems. You don't know what you know anymore.

What were we talking about?

The 5 round magpul aics feed without issue in my rpr. They are just a touch finicky to get in the mag well- seems like they would insert just a bit better if they were a touch shorter front to back. Honestly, I have no real good reason to buy anything else, but the AIs are on sale. Are they worth $50 each? I’ve spent more on less. Are they worth 50% more than a magpul? I doubt it, but maybe they are the PF flyers of the magazine world...

I’ve got 2 custom 260’s built on R700 actions (by LRI), one in a mcm a5 and one in a mcm htg. Both of them have ptg stealth bottom metal and the one in the a5 feeds flawlessly with 5rd magpul mags but the one in the htg will not feed from the magpul mags. I’ve never really tried to figure out why the one in the htg won’t feed from the magpul mags because I have a handful of ai and accurate 5rd mags that work perfectly in it and the one in the a5.

Small sample size and all but I reckon it’s a lot like most magazine questions, you’ve got to try them in each gun to determine whether or not they’ll work.

And there's my issue with the Magpul 5 rd mags in both AR's in 5.56 and 300BO. They both have feeding issues. The 30 rd mags? Not a glitch. They both feel tight as hell jamming the 5th rd in them, so they've become gun room clutter. I've thought about modifying the springs but afraid it'll render them useless without ordering new springs.

Magpul AI mags work...most of the time. I've seen a lot of folks have issues with them in our matches though. Were it I, AI would be the only way to go IMO. I have never had issues with AICS or AW mags. Ever. And only seen one other person with issues (feed lips were too close and needed to be spread a smidge to make them function).

The magazine itself.

Crap! Makes to much sense. As I've stated in the past, I've not been an auto loader guy. And in hind sight my M1 Carbine that's been in the family since the late 60's and sloppy as hell feeds flawlessly with it's original 10 and 25 rd (?) Mags but the newer 2 mags I bought some years ago, not so much. There ya have it. ;)

My friend, coming from you, that speaks volumes. DULY NOTED. I have MY answer.

I shouldn’t post when I don’t have much time as I did last night and this morning. Over the years as I’ve watched systems fail, MANY times a mag was at fault. Certainly more often than not in an autoloader, but bolt rigs as well.

AI mags are expensive, but typically feed like butta’ and function as intended. The old Wilson 47D mags weren’t cheap either but kept a lot of 1911’s feeding when other brands would not. Life too short to run stuff that “kinda” works. Just my opinion, Im wrong a lot.

I see that you too ( @1J04 ) also keep your empty powder bottles for storing other items in. And here I thought I was the only one crazy enough to do that.

Because we sure wouldn't want to be above the limit in legal/fire-code powder storage, would we? And we SURE wouldn't want to advertise that on a global manner, would we?

Them bottles sure are great for storing other stuff in. :D I'm just sayin'.....

That's exactly right. I even keep all my Bullet boxes for knick knacks as well. Doesn't everybody?

I had one of those large plastic storage totes full of unused empty bullet boxes. I finally had to say “screw it, I’m not using these” and throw them away.

Wouldn't want that photo to be misinterpreted, so it's Ghandi.

For those that want to know, the AI brand 5 round AICS mags seat fine in my RPR. I did have to smack the bottom of both a few times to get them to seat initially. After 3 or 4 cycles in and out they seat without issue, and without the smack. 8541 tactical on YouTube said the 5 rounders would not seat, but that the 10 rounders would in his RPR. Just another data point. I haven't been shooting since they showed upon the 12th so no feeding report. That said, just like the magpul AICS mags, they are a touch finicky going in. The 10/20/25 round pmags seem to be the easiest in and out- at least in this rifle. The AI mags do drop free from the RPR upon release, if that is important to you.

First World problems. I went 12 years not having to mow grass, now I've got a tractor and the missus is in the shop right now buying a self-propelled Honda lawnmower to cut the small hilly bits. Shit, I won't see the range until fall at this rate, let alone have time to accumulate more gear. But the simple answer? Shop until your paranoia subsides.
