This knife has over 65 hours of hand labor. It has been thermal cycled and hammered from it's original 1084 bar stock. It has been differential heat treated with clay, tempered in 400* and dropped then frozen at -10* for 24 hours to temper. The finish is 15 minutes in ferric acid, and 20 minutes in coffee. The handle is leather over wood. This knife in hand is light and fast, and it will cut.
It goes up on AUCTION by DM Friday at 5. I have a reserve that will be lifted at a point I am using. It is also posted on Facebook, and Instagram on @Redline240SX

The winner will be notified by DM for payment. Payment will be by PAYPAL or verified with USPS sending check or email in 24 hours

I bet that could cut a son of a bitch! Nice blade!

Someone make an offer on this. It was a special order that took 65 hours form start to finish. The person who ordered it as specified after many conversations backed out and ghosted when payment was due.
It will be shipped with a side mount leather sheath that can ride left or right or sob.

That's a pretty crappy thing to do when ordering a custom product.
It's kind of why I prefer to pay up front, that way if something happens to me or my circumstances change for the seriously negative, I don't leave anyone hanging.

I'm trying to understand what kind of knife it is recreating? It is supposed to be a typical knife from the middle ages, cryo treated like the ancients used to do it? Or is it an exotic prison shank? It looks interesting.

All special orders don’t start until a 50% deposit is received. Thus ends lesson #1. ?

Dang, that’s fucked up.

As mentioned above you should always ask for a deposit on custom orders. I do when someone wants a material I don’t commonly use, precious metal inlays, or initials/name carved.

I also recommend better photos from multiple angles.

If you don’t sell it, chalk it up as a learning experience and use the knife in the shop. I have a box of about 15 sets of grips that I messed something up on when I first started out.

Does it glow blue when socialist Democrats are near?
Was the blade quenched in the heart of a rock troll?
Elf runes?
Will it kill a ring wraith?
Was the guy who stiffed you, a shady little hairy footed bastard named Frito?
Does he have two cousins named Moxie and Pepsi?

The person wanted an 'ancient seax', the common blade wielded by northmen, Saxons, celts and many others during the 700 - 800 period. After seeing leather wrapped handles on many in several series(Vikings, Brittania, The Last Kingdom, a few Viking movies) the design was set.

Do I want to peel off the leather and the small pine underscales? Not really, that is a pain in the ass. Would a nice black walnut handle work well on this? Hell yeah. This seax will keel, and it will cut. If a wife said, aw hell naw or oh you bought one for me, the way it handles will be noted very quickly. Walnut scales will more than likely throw off the balance.

Yes, the lesson of 'Oh, I served with this guy, he was always good people, got things done' will never ever happen again. You want custom, I'll do the planning, design, get all the input, and payment in full up front.

Once I finish all this 1084 I have, maybe two push daggers, one skien dubh, then a 5" kwaiken, and I'll move to 1095 and 1.25 x .187 stock for a set of tactical edc's I have designed.

I feel like this thread is nothing but troll bait.

1. I’m at a loss for why it’s posted here....from what i’ve seen, stuff posted ”for sale” in the inappropriate spot doesnt seem to fly.

2. 65 hours? And someone actually requested that design? As some have said, i look at it, and it looks like something fashioned out of whatever could be snaked out of the trash can and glued together.

I have to ask you.....did you screw this guy over in the past?

I still feel like i’m being trolled here. No disrespect intended, i;m just trying to wrap my head around if this is some kind of joke i just aint getting.

First... switch is a legend here and one of the most solid citizens on sh.

He has been trying to break into the blade business and we have ALL (or mostly) been helping him get his foot in the door.

When you are starting out, a job that takes a master Minutes may take an journeyman hours... but the result is the same.

And I, for one, would (and will) bid a lot for this because switch is a friend and a
Solid citizen.

There is no trolling or fishing here. This is a brother who is working on master blade status and we are all (or most of us) 100 percent behind him.

Where do I bid???

Sirhr

PS. great work, Switch! Keep it up!!!!

Honestly I was thinking of bidding but.....I don't see a place to bid.

That other stuff I said....you guys know me....if I'm not cutting your jugular I'm laughing at you.
I'm just bumping the thread.

Mostly....I didn't want to insult Switch with a bid, and embarrass myself. Not one to be put off by embarrassment...

I bid $100

As some have said, i look at it, and it looks like something fashioned out of whatever could be snaked out of the trash can and glued together.

I would bet from looking at it, that while it may not look like a lot of other knives, it probably stays in your hand rather well and doesn't go anywhere when you need it to be all about the "social work" aspect and not about the showing off.

I'd be bidding on it if I wasn't trying to save all my pennies for a new Hoplite rifle (and if I didn't already have 2 other custom knives on order).

I bid $100

First bid is $100. Message, PM, DM

As to what sirhrmechani said, I am a dedicated knifemaker. This is my third knife that is a sale knife. I was asked to make an ancient looking knife with leather braid Viking style handle. I have pages of Messenger texts with all of this. This blade went exactly how the originator wanted it to go. Before I started or even cut the 1084 stock, I watched hours and days of Vikings and other shows, googled images, and saw some that looked way worse than this, but again, it was a very simple, rudimentary, early style design.

What do my designs look like?
Some I made first to learn some basics and get challenged by my mentor, a pair of kaikens that two members own, one reporting it is doing VERY well, new blades I'm working on and a design that will be in 1095 1.25" x .187 stock, a no nonsense, my idea of a EDC utility blade that can be beaten on and will survive the basic FnF testing

Purple handle is Panty 6's knife, the very first knife I made(forged HC stee). The 7" kanmuri-otoshi bladed tanto is my second tying to copy an ancient japanese design using the false edge and cannelure(huge step for not knowing jack). The wood handled utility kaiken is forged from a small piece of san mai.
The micro tanto was a challenge to make a 'better fingernail cleaner' when I saw a dashi with plastic handles for $65 I joked a the cost of a fingernail cleaner, and set to shaping some L6 saw steel into my own verion...first blade sold.
I am learning. AS someone I respect already said, cstom work is a learning experience...I learned a lo...about people, and how I should do business. My State VR is assisting me with staring up solid and legal and right, but I am not stopping while I wait.

I am being pushed by men, some who I pushd a long time ago to stepout on their own while I was active duty. These guys you know, Seekins, Triad, others, man I was all over them, step out on your own, be your own boss..now here I am doing just that...a blade at a time, learning, buying equipment, and following the steps I have read in the books and master bladesmiths I speak to.

Nothing anyone says will hurt my feelings. I been here a long ime and have a pretty thick skin. ;)

Last bid was $280

L6 is some Hanwei style stuff! Great steel, harder than most, holds an edge great and would make a most excellent blade. Stuff is on teh pricier side at about $60 for a .250 x 1.25" x 36" billet. That is enough for 3 4" blades, and 1 3" blade knife with a nice EDC shape

What if I told you I have a shitload of it, as in couple hundred pounds....and a bad right arm. My knife making days are done.

I am not in position to restock at the moment(three kaiaken edc are almost done, then kydex by Saturday, sell those and I can buy drill press/band saw and maybe $100 worth of steel and other supplies.

'a couple hundred pounds' is not cheap to move from point A to B. I also know two guys here(My AO who may be interested, Breed and Boothill, but Boothill prefers the 1095 for his culinary line)

Thank you for the compliments. After reading a bit here I am an apprentice, no master. Each blade is a learning experience in what I can and cannot do with my equipment, how I can work with a crap grinder then files to make things look right, and just do something I found that I love doing. Best part is no one is the boss of me!(panty 6 HATES that!)
I am building this business a blade at a time.

Other cool news: Found a brand new forge for $300, some assembly required. A forge will make doing several things faster and easier.

I saw in a documentary last week that all weapons need to be certified by some weird looking asian guy that lives in his moms basement dungeon forge and has aspergers. All he does is have his minions craft random weapons and then he tries to kill shit with it. Apparently this is how this kind of thing goes.

Has this been kill certified?

I'm in for $13 if it is.

$290, is the current bid! Bidding will run to midnight Saturday. Sunday I will PM the winning bid with my address and payment details. Also the winner will be announced here as well.

Thank you all for looking and bidding on this blade. Trust me when I say in hand, this thing is nice!
