I'm going to be putting up a 20 ft flag pole on the new property soon, and will be purchasing a quality American flag of course to adorn it.

What company makes the best quality outdoor American flags? Any great flag companies/stores I should purchase from?

Right now I'm looking at 3' x 5' nylon flags. Open to suggestions.

It will be spending a lot of time outdoors in sunny, dry, and sometimes "monsoony" Arizona.

And of course it should be made in America.
 
DixieFlag.com's stuff mostly seems to be made by Annin according to their website.
 
Annin Signature Series flags.

The large embroidered stars really make for a great looking flag. The blue field stays a shade of blue for longer before fading to purple as some others tend to do.

Annin. I buy many often. Alot got to vacation in Afganistan and some in Africa one lucky one got a free ride on a Reaper. Money well spent. They are tough enough to put on vehicles boats ect. The 12 inch by 18 inch works best for that but they have about any you can imagine. Made in America!

How about we start with it's nice that someone out there is going to display the flag.

And less about the "rules"

I always have a flag outside my home (american, texas, or marine corps), and yeah it's lit enough at night.

But I wouldn't give anyone shit if there's is not lit.

Flying it in tattered condition is another story.

Just purchased an Annin 3' x 5' tough tex flag, as well as a Gagsden flag.

What do you guys have success with for lights? I see Annin has a solar light, but I have my doubts on how well that will work.
 
Solar lights are not bad if you maintain the batteries. What I find is that when the batteries go the screws to access the battery compartment are so corroded you cant replace the batteries or the solar cell is so degraded its on its last legs.

Ive gone to a plug in lawn light with LED. I run it off a photcell - on at dusk, off at dawn.

Better would be a hardwired landscape light.

First one died after 3 years and Ace replaced it for free. When next one dies Ill buy something else.

There is much better out there but this was readily available when my solar light died.

A hardwire landscape light would be my preference, if only I didn't have to dig up some driveway to wire it.
 
Yep hardwire is the way to go.

Been looking at low voltage systems and wondering if I can run one side saddle off an outdoor receptacle box.

The actual wiring is pretty light gauge that you could just cover with flower bedding mulch.

The ideal system would include schd 40 PVC piping, junction boxes and light boxes but "after the fact" installations maybe the mow voltage systems are a good option......
 
i have several "Gates flag and banner"

excellent quality

from small 3 x 5 to 25' x 35' if i remember the exact size

i hang the big one on the front a beach house out in the Hamptons on long island NY

let all the pinko commi's see that when they walk down to the beach...my house is right infront of the beach walkway

I re-hem, cut them off and replace and do seam repair all the time on American flag . Flags take a good beating on the Fly-Edge 24-7 in the wind . 'Especially' if you get lazy and leave them out in extreme high wind and don't pull them, wind and UV are the enemies .
You pay more for good quality manufactured flags materials and good stitching are a must if you going to Fly it 24-7 . You can get buy cheaper if you will pull them down every night, but most people leave them fly night and day . Bigger Sq.Ft. and Higher the Pole, the more beating they take . I do a flag repair thing for several years in the city where I live . The fire Dept. are the caretakers on the changing out, half-mast and maintenance . They have a 130 Ft. pole and fly American Flag from sizes of 20' x 30' and 30' x 60' .

Great topic! We fly our flag at work 24/7 with lighting and the person buying them has been cheaping out, so they fade and fray fast. I sent her a link to these flags with a note.

The ones I have used from Annin have never noticeably faded. We are in a high wind area so when they start to fray I replace them.
 
Our Church got a new pastor, and he wanted to fly the flag again (his predecessor went back home to India...)

The Local VFW donated them a flag at my request, I immediately ordered a new one from Annin, which I gave to the Post as a replacement.

Exact one I ordered. I'm excited to get it flying.

Same spot. I do have power pretty much right there though (small pond), so it should be pretty easy to get rigged.

I got a 4X6. I’m hoping she doesn’t look too big for the pole I have, or I’ll have to get a bigger pole too...
 
I buy Annin Texas tough flags also.

I have a 20w Lithonia commercial landscape light on mine. I only pull mine down if it's going to be really windy.

There are some good people out there to whom this "matters" and I appreciate their Patriotism.

Whatever "Made in USA" flag you buy fly it faithfully, maintain it and retire it respectfully when it comes time to replace it.

Im wanting to replace my just bought in July 50 star flag with a Betsy Ross flag these days.

I do fly a Gadsden under my National Flag but if its now thought that the 13 Star Flag of the Founding Fathers is "bad" I want it known I stand with the Founding Fathers.....

I bought my light setup.

Going with some 12v landscape spotlights (x2) which will be setup 180° from each other and of course aimed at the top of the flag pole.

Will be hard wired to a transformer (120 to 12v) and setup on a timer.

I'm really excited about this project. This will be a great addition to the new house.

I purchased a flag from Alabama Flag Company a year ago. Excellent quality and great service. I wanted a confederate battle flag before they are banned. No, I'm not "one of those." I love history and my family has a direct connection to the civil war (war of northern aggression ?). But, I am not politically correct.
 
Alabama Flag Company was in the news a few years ago when the confederate flag crap was first ramping up. Can't remember if they were already laying workers off or just worried they'd have to given declining sales. Irony was all the workers were black women.

Also bought a 2' x 3' "come and take it" and "don't tread on me" flags to display below the American flag (3' x 5') as I/we see fit.

Wife is pretty excited as well. In fact it was her idea to get the "come and take it" flag.

Could always go with a no shit authentic certified flag that’s been flown over the US capitol. Hit up your US Senator or Representative for one. Usually they have an option to “request a flag” on their websites.

Got it flying this morning! The wife and I are really excited to get the flag up.

I installed a 20' in ground aluminum flag pole, and there's a 3' x 5' Annin tough tex flag now flying. The flag is of excellent quality, thanks for the suggestions!

The pictures don't do it justice, was in a rush to snap some pics before heading to the airport. But it's in a beautiful location. You can see it from the street/as you drive down the driveway as its overlooking the Catalina mountains. It's also visible from the entire pool area, as well as part of the patio.

I won't be able to get it lit until I get back from a 2 week work trip, not all my lighting supplies showed up in time. But it will be lit be two 12v landscape lights at dark.

The wife also has plans to do some gardening around the base of the flag, she's going to try and get some red, blue and white flowers planted around the base. Just need to fit some that can survive AZ year round (or at least part of the year).
