Bodies Exposed On Everest

Amazing the number of wealthy adrenaline junkies that got in over their head, only to die on the side of a mountain.

Leaves more for me, nom nom.

So you're saying global warming is real...?

Most likely they will blame the bodies (and deaths) on Global Warming.

Beats the hell out of me how they will make that connection - but that hasn't stopped them from making far flung connections so far.

Global warming is real, it's not something you can believe in or not, it's not like the Easter Bunny and other shit. It's real and it goes beyond politics. Well over 90% of scientists agree that we did it and that number grows; most of the other 10% admit it too, they're just skeptical as to whether or not we caused it. But that's nearly 100% that agree SOMETHING is warming it up. The real eye opener, for me anyway, is/was the methane explosions N. of the Arctic Circle. Trapped for centuries by permafrost, that's now melting and leaving craters all over the place. Only found 'em from space, it's pretty remote, and only one thing can cause this: melting of permafrost, which by definition, isn't supposed to melt. There'a glacier not far from here that's been on camera for 100 years. Since the 60's they've had one there constantly. They can speed it all up to show the glacier receding for the last 100 years. Sure it gets bigger for a year or two and looks like maybe a comeback, but it's the overall picture we're concerned about. There are other signs too, like CO2 being elevated. This should happen on a geological time scale save large volcanic eruptions and/or asteroid/comet strikes, but it's happening on a short scale now, human time, and there usual culprits aren't here to blame.

From a mathematical viewpoint it's kind of easy to see, but if you get all your information from propagandists, I suppose it's not so clear.

The "news" channels are the last place I go to look for facts.

PS, parking lots do a LOT to help heat up the local atmosphere and that's then dispersed into the greater atmosphere.

Don't they leave some of the where they fell?

Yeah, so there are bodies up there going back god knows how long. Supposedly a murder mystery too IIRC.

It's the ones farther up that get abandoned. Up where helicopters can't go and up where you can't spare your own energy to bring 'em back down. Too dangerous. Now I doubt it's melting up there.

I bet where they're talking about is just above and at the base camp that got hit by the avalanche a few years back. It's normally not under feet of snow, so I could see that slowly melting and revealing the bodies that couldn't be retrieved. This could be good for some families that wanted the body back.

It’s real but we didn’t do it. It would happen if humans didn’t exist. But we did make it worse perhaps. How many ice ages have we had?

That is debatable and far from settled.

What do you think the consensus is about ground scores?
Finders keepers? I’ve been needing a new puffy coat.

Some of the bodies on Everest have become waypoints and landmarks on the way to the summit.

"Green boots" is one such landmark.

The little ice age wasn't that long ago. Man, didn't make that. Shit is changing all the time and that high school dropout DiCaprio gets a room full of scientists to do what? All Gore has been making money ever since he divided this country. Fuck the climate change motherfuckers.

If they died on the mountain, assuming they didn't dig out a hole and crawl into it to go deeper, its safe to say they died on the surface. Only to be buried by ice and snow at some point. So wouldn't it be an okay assumption that the bodies were now only exposed to a layer previously exposed? Meaning "global warming" has only exposed recently exposed layers.

Call me when the wolly mammoth gets uncovered.

Fuckin' amateurs...

At least they died wearing some cool gadgets.

Some of the older bodies / campsites that were buried in the 1920's - 50's probably still contain a ton of vintage camping and outdoor gear like Petromax, Tilley, and Coleman lamps, flashlights and even hunting guns. And I will bet that 99% of that stuff, once given a good cleaning and lubrication, will continue to operate flawlessly.

If is wasn't warming up we'd still be in the ice age back about 11,700 years ago.
Funny thing, this warming trend started long before industrial effects were added to the equation.

back before it became big business the old timers that climbed Everest were a very small crew

if someone said they climbed Everest they would grab their hands and then tell them to take off their shoes

you couldnt have done it because you "had all your fingers and toes"

if you didnt get turned back or die you lost at least one....tough

One of the things which makes it so deadly for climbers on Everest and the neighboring peaks is the absolutely unpredictable nature of the weather. It can be reasonably mild and sunny one instant, only to give way to blinding snow squalls, hurricane force winds and subzero temperatures in a matter of minutes. And these patterns still could not be forecasted with reliable accuracy even with the latest satellites and radar. The wreaths of clouds that would whip across the surface of the peaks at high speed are actually bands of wind and icy precipitation. The sunlit parts of the surface and the areas of shadow covered by these moving squall bands can mark a temperature difference of up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Conditions like this are similar across the Tanggula Plateau (6000 meters) all the way to the Pamir of Xinjiang (Hongtu Gaoyuan ) (4000+ meters). These two regions are considered some of the most inhospitable areas of the world and to this day, the weather is the main cause of death for shepherds and their flocks. Sometimes, a false sense of security could be given by a period of warmth and clear skies, leading to many shepherds setting out with their herds to graze, only to have a freak and prolonged squall explode within the hour. Many herdsmen, even with an acute sense of direction, would be lost in the swirling zero-visibility whiteout, freezing to death in a matter of minutes. In the summer months, the snow is replaced by dust. While not as lethal, this presents an entirely new world of problems.

The Tanggula highlands are almost completely devoid of life, as barren as the surface of the moon, and marked by only one structure of human construction: The tracks and single maintenance vestibule of the Qinghai - Tibet Railway.

There is one surefire way to guarantee you don't die on Everest.....don't fucking go up there. We do not belong at heights above where airliners cruise. That's why you die...… it ain't rocket science.

WOW. Have any of you guys ever done any climbing? So a couple thoughts. First yes bodies almost always stay where they lay; although occasionally they are lowered into a cavass; but almost never recovered. Second, its not only bodies that "litter" Everest or any other popular climbing venue. There are metric tonnes of junk including Oxygen bottles abandoned where the are ditched. Occasionally there are endeavors to "recover' the trashed bottles in an attempt to clean up the mountain.

Everest is something of a religious place to the locals. Its a dual edged sword. Climbing brings in LOTS of money but it also brings lots of trash.

As climbing goes, Everest is not considered hard to climb. No its NOT easy, just not hard. K2 on the other hand is a hard climb. Everest has a planned route. In the beginning of the season climbing guides set the route and emplace the gear (ladders over cavasses). Ultimately its more about endurance than technical climbing.

I (we) actually planned to honeymoon in Nepal so we could say we went to Everest. We also considered Mt Kilimanjaro (a comparatively easy climb -- think hard hike). If you are in reasonable shape its do-able; but pick a group with American guides, Trust me youll be happier. I speak Kis-Swahili but I wouldnt climb with locals unless I was in super shape. BTW we decided to do a lion hunt in RSA for the Honeymoon.

So I'm taking Everest off my bucket list.

Not that I'm a puss or old or have copd or my beer would freeze.

Never did like graveyards.

If methane explodes when the temperature rises above freezing, we'd blow up instead of farting.
