I'll say this:
At least CNN has dropped all pretense at being a legitimate news outlet. You want us to believe you can impartially report the news as you file suits against who you are supposed to be covering? It's not as if it's surprising to anyone, but previously they at least tried to pretend to be a news outlet reporting. Now they're just a propaganda organ. I believe nothing I see on CNN, and I'm certain that whatever commentary they offer is the diametric opposite of the objective truth.

I hope Trump counter sues and makes them pay his (our) legal bills like he did the porn star and porn lawyer.

Freedom of the Press does not mean you get a White House pass.

The level of unglued has increased exponentially since the Election. It has morphed into open fear on their part. Something is going on.

"This morning, CNN filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in DC District Court," CNN's top executive Jeff Zucker said in a statement. "The White House has violated CNN and Jim Acosta's First Amendment rights of freedom of the press and Fifth Amendment rights to due process. We are demanding the immediate return of Jim's White House credential."

1st amendment doesnt mean you are entitled to go wherever you want because you are "press"

5th amendment only applies when you are charged with a crime....which they werent.

CNN is laughable....its pretty bad when BuzzFeed is a more credible news source

I'd wager Trump's team will say something to the affect that "CNN can submit another reporter for a pass, so we're not violating the 1st Amendment".

I hope this does go to court, and I truly hope that the case goes up further, to the Supreme Court. Then, and only then, I seriously hope that cnn (lower case, as that is all they deserve) loses, and has to pay for all court costs/legal fees from both sides. AND is also then given a bankrupting penalty for misleading the populace, lying to the citizenry, manipulating the facts, and harming the trust of the people.

So much so, that cnn is destroyed forever. AND, it also shows each and every other media format that they are supposed to only show the facts, and the truth, from at least two sides of each issue. Then and ONLY then, will you have an "informed populace". (vis-a-vis "The Newsroom" opener)

But I know, I wish/dream/ask for too much. What can I say, I have an overly-developed sense of justice.

A commie DC judge will probably order his presspass returned. I bet he's back for the briefings within a week.

You do not have to be charged with a crime to plead the 5th. You have the right to non self incrimination whether you are charged or not

Take it to the Supreme Court. Hopefully by that time Ginsburg is dead and trump has the old bitch replaced.

I think they should let ASScosta do the press briefing with..... Tucker, Judge jenine, Lou Dobbs, Gutfeld, Bongino, Mark Stein, Levin, and Ann Coulter asking the questions.

Personally, I think Acosta should have all his media credentials yanked, and be audited by the IRS. But that's just me...

This is true, but can someone enlighten me as to how he had his 5th amandment rights violated?

The libtards use the parts of the constitution that they need at a specific point in time while
Denouncing the rest of it until they need new part of it to further their sick ass agenda.

WOW I remember when they at least tried to hide their bias. ?

Hes a threat to the president. Hes already showcased a temper and violate manner. He doesnt have a right to be there. The president can kickout whoever he wants.

Trump should jut say, "you know what - no more press conferences. Everyone's pass has been revoked"

He went hands-on with a WH intern. He should be charged with assault.

As it is... CNN merely has to submit another reporter.

This is more distraction... and CNN getting itself publicity while also firing up a freak-show base... to go watch them in sympathy.

They are not news. They are propaganda. Bought and paid-for (and staffed) by Communists. Want to see "Communist interference" in elections? Look at the media.

And Fox is not exempt from that comment. Between Shephard Smith and the little criminal ex-State Dept communist Hillary mole Harf... they are just as culpable.

Cheers,

Here is a decent article explaining the legal reasoning behind cnn's lawsuit:

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018...inistration-demands-return-acostas-press-pass

The Cliff notes version is there is some prexisting case law covering the revoking of WH Press creds and ASScosta did not receive "due process" when his WH creds were revoked.
I saw the full article in the Atlantic as posted by Veer in another thread. I totally understand and get the precedent as set back in the Nixon years. I also totally get that that is exactly where CNN got their basis for the lawsuit. Additionally, I realize that had Trump been a subtle manipulater like Obama, he would have handled it in a sly back room attack from a different branch of the government. But he is Trump and will be what he is.

That aside, my question was, why does the 5th amendment apply on this case and why is it cited in the lawsuit? I probably could research this myself, but have some company that is keeping me mostly occupied on a work night, so thought that someone here might have the answer to that question.

As I understand it, the 5th A is all about due process; the crux of their argument.

Due process is related to criminal charges and courts... not to revoking a press pass...

Totally ridiculous, frivolous suit. It's all about CNN desperately needing to stay relevant and pander to its base of socialist morons.

Press Passes are not Constitutionally-guaranteed.

If they had put Acosta in jail without charges, then the 5th might apply. What a lot of bovine scatology.

Oh I agree, just stating what their purported justification is, in citing the 5th Amendment.

Okay. I get that argument. It’s bogus and based on the victim posture so popular with the socialist movement, but I see clearly why they chose it. It’s consistent with the posture they take.

I guess that why I didn’t originally see it, is that I was looking for a real basis for their complaint. My mistake.
