I didn’t really enjoy watching that either. It’s a fucked up spot to be in; either you listen to her talk shit or you’re the guy who beat up a chick.
I was an ametuer boxer. I did club fights, Golden Gloves, etc & I’ll be the first to say that the headgear doesn’t do shit to alleviate the pounding that you received from the other person. The headgear does more to protect the hands of your opponent. If a guy has big power I can assure you that you’ll feel knuckles on your face when using 12 oz gloves.
Shit, as a young man (c. 1991 / 1992) I had a guy in the gym talking shit to me. He was a newer guy whose britches were a bit too big. It got personal & I knocked his ass out w/ one overhand right, - to start round 1. We touched gloves, circled a bit & I threw a big right cross. The guy stumbled backwards & hit the corner. His arms were on the ropes / turnbuckle & they were the only things holding him up. As he was semi-coherently trying to shake out the cobwebs, the trainers got out the smelling salts for him. We’re using headgear & 16 oz gloves. One of the trainers told me beforehand that even though he had a big mouth I should take it easy on him because he didn’t have a lot of experience. Pride got the better of me. I took a small ass-chewing afterwards. After the guy was coherent, I told him “That’s what the F you call power.” No apologies given.
FWIW, I was a Super Heavyweight Open Class fighter. That being said, some of you may call this a dick move, but I was tired of listening to him. Karma & payback were in attendance that evening.
*I keep in touch w/ a few of the guys I used to fight / train with & every now & again someone will bring it up. It’s still worth a laugh over a beer.
ETA: Articulation.
