I think they will let it burn out on its own. I've wondered if central authority gave it a push to get it rolling. The leadership will be looking at the long game. My speculation is that they will want to show a gentle hand to Nationalist China ( Taiwan to the recently educated), they may want to avoid doing anything that stiffens their spine.
The airport has been closed and troops are gathering in convoys. So I don't think the soft hand is in play.
Well at least they have bigger balls than us. We are the country of do nothings.

well I think it sad that china thinks of Hong Kong as a place to get unwilling organ donors / criminals as if they would only take criminals ha ha ha anyone the state wants gone is now an organ doner . wonder how long before the dims catch this idea as well .pot smokers and jaywalkers organ donors just delivered your baby stem cells yummy .

Anyone with a plan for a hot war with China that involves sending ground troops over there is a fool.
If you want to go to war with China, just be prepared to nuke them back to the stone age from orbit and be done with it.
You could use subs / aircraft to impose a total blockade on them without immediate risk, but they would probably respond by having NK start a ground war and invade SK, possibly also start using nukes, so you have to be ready to nuke them and their NK lapdogs from the start.
Coming up on a half century now since we finished up (...walked out on...) our last debacle in Asia. That mass adventure in government mandated virtue signalling made me the man I am today.
