Rifle Scopes I must be full of shit.

No more drunk posting! Just kidding. It's good to be humble enough to admit mistakes. That's how you make corrections and improve overall.

Spend some time behind some $2500+ scopes shooting for a day or two and then go back to a sub $1000 scope and see if the experience is the same.

LOL - been there with drunk posting, except when Ive had a few too many I usually type "I'll take it" to the $2500 scope in the PX. Surprise!

I think your post has/had merit....................don't be afraid to ruffle a few feathers....................is it the question or the answer that is offensive? Sure, you could have chosen a less polarizing title but this is a "BIG BOY" site.

It's all good, we are a lot like your drinking buddies, you do something questionable while tuned up, we make fun of you, and never let you forget it. I'm recommending Evan's rank be changed to "Drunky".

The truth is often spoken with a few knocked back versus sobriety. At least you didn't confess to anything deeper.

Glad you made this post. Knowing when you're wrong and not being afraid to apologize for it shows good character.


No less, the premise of the post isn't faulty at all. I was far more annoyed with the god-awful spelling, grammar and structure than the intent of the post.

I was looking through the threads and seen this one, I couldn't wait to see what was inside... I'm glad you have the balls to admit your mistake, even though it was funny as shit... I think I speak for most here when I say we knew you were shit faced and didn't really hold anything against you.. It was fun giving you hell over it though..

I think it was obvious you were ........under the weather.......and not very composed at that time. I think most of us have asked similar questions regarding the ever increasing cost of equipment for our sport.....and at what point does it become throwing money away.

As folks have pointed out.....your SWFA scope is pretty decent and can serve you very well into the future. But if your shooting pursuits change......you may be in the market for a scope with different features......features offered by scopes in that $1500+ range. For me and my aging eye.......I get less eye fatigue with scopes that run in the $1500+ bracket. So.....the choice tends to be subjective......what agrees with my eye may not with yours.......as well as features that I require......etc. etc. etc.

Don't stress the first post, but the folks here can be a huge help if you keep a level mentality when posting your thoughts. There are some great folks here with a wealth of knowledge, exposure, and experience to gain insight from.

FYI, the high price scope thing is going to make ZERO sense... Until all at once it makes perfect sense

Then you'll find yourself consolidating guns and glass are trying to have higher end items instead of just more of them. I just crossed this bridge in the last few years, and once you cross it... You basically seem to fall off a cliff into being a scope snob all at once and trying to upgrade EVERYTHING

My advice is to max out with midrange scopes like Bushnell Elite Tacticals and SWFA SS that have good glass and accurate tracking.
Once you've run an alpha scopes like an S&B or NF ATACR F1 you'll most likely want one, and it's an expensive fix, in my experience.

It's well past beer thirty and nobody can blame you for kicking back a few cold ones. I'm a couple deep myself. I think companies are realizing that they have to give the people of the shooting communities what they want. I think companies are stumbling over themselves to try and figure out how to produce first focal plane scopes with all the feature at or below the $1000 price point. Sig Sauer is doing it very well. Primary arms, SFWA and a few others are bring them in a $300 or so? How is that possible? It's a shooter's/buyer's market these days. I personally hope the trend continues!
