Everything in the article is from publicly available information. Much of the article focuses on the sex trafficking aspect, but it also talks about how the government monitors private gun sales over the internet. This bothers me more than the admission last week from one of the largest DNA testing/ancestry mapping services that it openly shares its database with law enforcement.

That's why I will never do that ancestry.com or 23 and Me bullshit.

I don't need a DNA test to know I'm a proud American of European origin, I am likely to be addicted to coffee because we kicked the tea drinkers out in the mid to late 1700's, may have high cholesterol or heart problems one day, and there's sand at the beach.

Yeah but if you were in the military they drew your blood and held onto it. All of us have our DNA in the FBI database, and anytime a crime happens, they always, always run it against that --even though I've never committed a crime and shouldn't be in the database. It's bullshit, and when they got called out on it, they admitted it was wrong --and kept on doing it. So if you were in the military I guess you really have nothing to lose.

I wish I could be optimistic, I really do. But I just ain't seeing it. We went from walking on the moon to arguing the Earth being flat in literally one generation. The only things we've made leaps and bounds in these days is identifying people not by the simple he/she and the 1% hermaphrodite nature bestowed us, but which hole you stick or lick, plus you're expected to know it on site or it's offensive. Meanwhile greedbag A is selling all your info to greedbag B who is in bed with the govt. and selling to greedbag C who leaks it all over the world and also sells it to... I wish I could give a fuck, I really do.

And now the majority is so goddamn stupid they can't give their Rights away fast enough. Literally begging for more control. I wish we could just take one state out of 50, just one, and implement the BOR and throw the rest of the shit in the trash.

Yup. My DNA is on file from the military, so they say...

Since I was in the medical field when they started doing that....... I was the one who drew my own blood, put it on the sample card, and submitted it.... I believe I would have done it correctly at the time....

;)

But yes, I do agree so many people just beg for their freedoms to be taken in exchange for more "security" , less mystery in life, less complications, less whatever.... So they think.

What is the "BOR" ?

What is the "BOR" ?
Sadly just words on paper only known by those who have defended this country or had civics in school. Most of us old guys were blessed to learn them in school then fight for them in places we were sent. Unlike the FSA & head down thumb people of today. Many old guys still alive, may have to work their training once more, which may lead to bleeding an dying for those words again, but on our own soil this time before they pass. What better way to go out than being branded a present day tango, but history labeling you as a Patriot.

Remember taxes are nothing more than legalized theft, just like in 1775, an when they came for the cannons that day on April 19th of that year, the birth of this nation stated. Some will revert an only go quietly into the night, when it's required to save the BOR's

OK. I've been in the military and have a grasp of civics and can't remember what "BOR" stands for. Maybe I have been told, but forgot. I understand on 4/19/1775 was the Battle of Lexington and Concord which was the official beginning of the American Revolution. So, would BOR mean Birth of Republic?

Seriously, what does it stand for?

We all have an imprint of ourselves stored in government databases. Starting from our birth, when our birth certificates were finalized. Every time we visit a physician, get a check up or a prescription. School records, job applications and background checks / drug tests. It would be absolutely foolish to think that the government does not keep files as extensive as possible on our backgrounds and profiles, genetic as well. Wherever there is a tool available, they will use it. The Form 4473's that we use to purchase firearms are even more solid evidence of that.

Whenever I apply for something, whether from government or corporate entities, I always disregard those cute little "privacy and confidentiality statements" that insist "we are not going to share or reproduce your information" or some BS like that. Yeah, yeah whatever. I am just aware that whenever I am putting information out there, it WILL certainly be used to the government's advantage to identify me better. It's just that when I decided to apply for this job or license or whatever, I provide this information because I am willing to share it in exchange for my license or job. I have never, at any time, believed that people who swear to keep my info confidential will actually keep their word.

Thing is, we are already being spied on and there are many different methods in this age of technology for them to do it.

HOWEVER, we can keep this snooping activity to a MINIMUM by not allowing them to keep track of us in real time. And we can do this by eliminating as much of our constant digital footprint as possible.

First of all, those who still use platforms like Facebook and Twitter should stop immediately. There is not much to be gained from these. I can still keep in touch with the news on feeds and forums like SH. People who constantly post on social media nonsense like: "Going to the gym", or "Taking a BIIIIG shit right now", is just magnifying their digital footprint. Even a moron can track them in real time if they wanted to, because they are making themselves as visible as a supernova on the edge of a galaxy. And the funny thing is that THOSE are often the same people who are most "concerned" about government snooping.

Next, keep track of your gadgets. The latest iPhones and smart devices may be all the rage, but we have all seen recently, due to exposed bugs and glitches, how these devices can be used as microphones and cameras to track you in real time. If there is no practical need for gadgets like these, don't use them. A basic cell phone and data plan can go long ways. And if you have constant access to public WiFi, data plans might not even be necessary. For those who REALLY want to maintain a low digital footprint, there are still prepaid and Pay-As-You-Go telecom plans available from many different vendors.

And last but not least, like our other members had mentioned above, there is no need to do these ancestry and family tree searches. All we are doing is giving them more information than necessary about ourselves. As if we are not doing enough of that by applying for licenses or going to doctors. No need to give them more hooks and rungs to cling on to.

We are all being snooped and spied upon. However, reducing their ability to do it in real time depends on how aware and alert we are in terms of technology and minimizing our contrails in the digital world. Be smart and be safe folks.

I remember reading 1984 when in high school in 1966 and feeling a chill run up my spine and thinking,"This shit can't happen."
Turns out old George was a few years off, but not by much.

The Communists and Democrats were busy reading 1984 along with Fahrenheit 451 and brave new world as blueprints on how they should do everything.

But remember, many were a lined with freedom but were cow toed until blood started flowing in 1775. Even then only 3 % stood up to the guns of the red coats back then which is the libtards of today. I submit there is a greater % today that have a far greater ability, relative to those times. As most of the family's of the redcoats were either not in this country or were far away an unknown to the patriots. I don't believe that is the case in these times. One needs to choose wisely which side of the fence they would prefer, an fence riders make for easy targets.

You don't suppose that VA contributes to this database whenever they do labs on Vets seeking medical help do you?

As we continue progressing into the future, the one thing that people MUST be aware of is the growing disparity of force between governments and the populations that they rule over.

During the Middle Ages all the way up the end of the 19th century, that is not much of a problem. Even the totalitarian monarchies of the Renaissance had their powers highly limited because the peasantry and the general population can go toe to toe with them conventionally. The crossbow and the longbow were the great equalizer of the time, both in Europe and China. Any pikes, swords and halberds that the kings can put to use in subjugating the populace can and is often met by pike, sword and halberds from the common citizen alike.

The governments of that time simply DID NOT hold a monopoly over industry, thus their powers were severely curbed.

This changed with the advent of firearms and factories in the 19th century. Unlike earlier projectile weapons, the more advanced the firearm designs became, the more impossible it is for the average citizen to be able to manufacture a gun himself, unlike bows, swords and spears. Samuel Colt may have made men equal, but as it turns out, those who can control industrial production is more equal than others. Gun factories can easily be monopolized and controlled by governments, thus enabling them to completely restrict their supply to the hands of the ordinary civilians.

The year 1934 marks the startling and apparent growing disparity between the rulers and the subjects. With the passing of the National Firearms Act, we have seen just how easy it is for a government, with one single stroke of a pen, make items that were once common into highly illegal contraband overnight and turn ordinary citizens into felons.

Today, while monarchies and theocracies are no longer in vogue in the Western world and East Asia, it is far more easier for "democracies" and "republics" to become totalitarian to degrees we cannot even imagine, simply because of the disparity of force between the rulers and the subjects. Even in many regions of the United States, where most people can own semiautomatic rifles and standard capacity feeding devices, there is still a considerable gap between the armed citizenry and government entities, the latter which can field armored vehicles, drones, satellites and machine guns at will.

As we continue to go forward, this disparity between the rulers and the subjects will only increase. We have seen how easy it is to wipe out targets with surgical precision from a drone whose operator can be thousands of miles away. Likewise, we have seen how easy it is for governments and corporations to employ electronic surveillance on every corner of their domains and maintain up to date databases on entire populations.

Many dystopian science fiction stories have already predicted this abuse of power, and as the ability to monitor and control people and deliver overwhelming firepower at the click of a button continues to get better and better, it is only natural that these things WILL be used against people.

The fact that the citizens can still be armed with weapons similar to that which is used by government forces in most areas of the United States and certain other countries help keep would-be tyrants in constant hesitation. As technology continue to widen the disparity of force between governments and their subjects, the ONLY thing that will keep people safe is the ability to KILL the armed agents sent by governments to brutalize them. Robert A. Heinlein has stated that violence, sheer naked force, have solved more problems than anything else in history. And THAT will remain true, no matter how distant in the future we go to.

It took Clarisse McClellan to make a MAN out of Guy Montag........I hope the love that we carry for our own families and children will do the same for us when the time comes.

Just think what a bad mood the peasants were in back then. Bad teeth and toothaches along with extreme cases of hemorrhoids not to mention intestinal parasites. When they fought I bet they did so with reckless abandon not caring if they lived or died. Ok I know its coming, yes, I have come to know and love my Proctologist once upon a time! LMAO

Seriously been considering going back to a flip phone and a Garmin GPS in the car.

That combined with DuckDuckGo search engine, TOR on your browser and/or a subscription to a private VPN and you can regain at least a modicum of privacy. Seems like as close as you can get to 'off the grid' and remain a functional member of regular society.

I don't have a problem with tools aimed at non-U.S. citizens. It's when those tools are given the non-title 10 or title 50 agencies and used against the people.

Of course they will be used against the people, any "tools" given to the government will be used against the people as the people is what the government is most afraid of and most interested in controlling.

If you are actually trying to hide from "the government" it won't do any good if "they" actually are "interested" in you.
Now if you concern is just that some corporation doesn't have all your info, then that may work fine.

Totally agree. Like most people I have nothing to hide, but dont appreciate the lack of privacy. Most people dont close their shades at night to hide anything nefarious- its just their life isnt anyone elses business. 10 years ago it would be unthinkable that people would agree to have every second of their day permanently logged- every place they went, who they were with, etc. Androids and iPhones do that. To have everything you think and wonder about and read permanently logged- Google and your browser are doing that.

And whos to say 20 years from now things may be different and something you researched out of curiosity could then be verboten. I have a spy thriller type book rattling around in my head I want to write eventually. I havent done any serious research for the details yet but its a strange thought that if you start searching the net for satellite capabilities, nuclear response protocols, air routes from Venezuela to Iran, etc it will be forever tied to your name. I keep laughing to myself that the file on Tom Clancy would be an encyclopedia. Then again- it may look even more suspicious if you are researching via a VPN/TOR.

Hi,

Yes, that right there!!

I find the "I am going to hide from the Government" conversations quiet funny at times.

As if the Government cannot just have the FBI Forensic Accounting Department get your banking information (from just your name and town), which in turn gets your home information, which in turn gets your vehicle information.

As if the Government cannot just have the IRS audit you in which they verify the above information from FBI Accounting Department in person.

As if they cannot contact your vehicle manufacturer and have them provide DHS (You know for National Security reasons...) the tracking information built into said vehicle that FBI and IRS have both verified.

As if they cannot contact Department of Transportation and acquire video and timestamp of each and every time said vehicle passes through a toll road entrance/exit, each time said vehicle passes a weigh station, etc etc.

List goes on and on.....

Sincerely,
Theis

Yeah this whole thing started with a YouTube video I saw a few weeks ago. Guy purchased a new Droid- pulled the sim card and didnt enable data. Drove around all day with it. Before he put it online he plugged it into some type of intermediary device and captured the data it sent to Google. It literally showed how long he sat at traffic lights- let alone the places he went and what he did in an incredibly detailed itinerary complete with map. It was really unnerving to see that level of detail and knowing every company out there can have that much info about your life. That was just google. Facebook cant be uninstalled from Androids for a reason. Its logging every person you were in contact with as well. Just crazy how little privacy you can have even if you want it.

If you think that's crazy... people found out that with their iPhones even when the battery was "dead" and the phones were "off" it was still recording their location data & movement & would send it to Apple next time they got power & a signal.

Now if you want to be even more interested, from the accelerometers on your iPhone or Android phone, they can work out if you are carrying it, or somebody else is.

That is why I mentioned before that even though we cannot fully eliminate all of the digital snooping that is conducted on all of us at any given time, we can minimize the level of exposure by investing in slightly older tech, and not jumping on the social media bandwagon.

Some folks have mentioned that if you don't have a smartphone or Facebook account, you will stick out. Sure you will, but all they will know is that you are a guy that sticks out. It would be a little harder for them to track you in real time without all that gadgetry, and they can't force you to own a smartphone. I know one guy in my building who works for a tech firm and the company REQUIRED all employees to have a Facebook account. So he got one...He just doesn't use it. Never participates in any off topic discussions or even logs in that often. He only posts work related stuff from time to time. Things like: "ATTN STAFF: The main printer is working again. Direct all print jobs to 2nd floor machine". When he gets asked about why he doesn't get involved in debates or discussions or play the games that they installed, he just gives them canned excuses like: "Oh I don't have time, maybe later". His digital footprint should only be around 20% if I were to guess.

We cannot fully evade the surveillance state that we live in, but we can take certain steps to make it more difficult for the entities that want to keep tabs on us.

Imagine one good EMP,...or the ability to make or have access to a direct-able, that will not hurt anything not being targeted in the same office on the same floor. Yes they are real. You can make one from a old tube type TV an microwave parts. Brave new world, remember technology works both ways.

I like and use Duck Duck Go.........But, like most other things, all it takes is a Mark Zuckerberg type to walk into their offices with an open checkbook one day and say "tell me how many zeros I need to put to the right of the one"......and pfffttt, DDG and it's associated "privacy" are but just a memory.

Excellent point, just like how even the most advanced governments in the world are in a constant war for survival against hackers, many of whom are independent operators. And these hackers are often one or several steps ahead of them.

In this day and age, with so much of the public infrastructure that we all rely on every day connected to and controlled by computer networks, future warfare will often involve full scale cyber warfare as well and it will not be pleasant at all. Imagine the chaos and confusion that will occur when databases ranging from medical appointments in hospitals, shipping manifests and schedules for trucking lines and transit / traffic control systems are struck by hackers working for opposing armies or terrorist organizations.

Cyber warfare is just as terrifying and deadly as a nuclear, biological and chemical attack if one understands the full implications. We are truly living in interesting times and nukes are not the only things that the human race can use to wipe itself out.

This is the Key stone/Linch pin no one talks about. Just in Time "JIT" freight fuckups, have the ability to bring everything to a stop, very quickly. Many people do not understand how this country operates. Once you do most that can think call it an eye opening event. Buy it cheap an stack it deep pertains to many things, not just ammo.

I received a first hand experience this morning.....The local pharmacy where my mother gets her prescriptions filled had been hit by a computer virus that corrupted a lot of the data on it's patient files. Right now the staff is trying to operate manually, calling up physicians for each person who is coming in to get their meds and verifying prescription dates and drug types. The computers are still down, there is a line that is curving around aisles and some people are starting to get anxious because they need their medications today.

This is a VERY frightening wake-up call to just how fragile today's society really is.

I had the fun experience of living in NOLA during Katrina. Countless things made me shake my head but one that always stands out is the grocery store by my house- the unwashed hungry masses freaked out so bad by no groceries on the shelf that they started smearing their own feces on the walls. I'll never understand why other than the pure panic when the system breaks down is far worse than simple rioting in the streets. And then its a viscious cycle with people getting PTSD and really going apeshit and feeding the others freak outs. Its actual insanity. Hell the one time I tried to get my mail the place was about to riot so bad from people not getting theirs I thought the post office shock troops (these actually exist to my surprise) were about to light us up and got out of there. No one ever has to invade us. Knock out the grocery stores, mail, and everything else most folks depend on and we will happily kill each other way more efficiently than any invader could.

Hi,

It is the anarchy rule of "9 Meals". It has been proven over and over, country after country, on various continents......

When 75% of the population of an area misses 9 meals straight it is like a light switch...from normal operations to complete anarchy.

I said about a year that Google and Facebook are/am skynet and cyberdyne. Everyone always laughs at me.
