Howdy folks,
I try to get a good word out for those individuals who sell me a great product at a great price, then follow it up with exceptional service. Look no farther than Doug at Camera Land in New York for just such a gentleman. I called him up and asked if he had any Kestrels left. When he said yes, I bought one. I received it the next day, no shipping charged to me. The Kestrel is attempting to bring me into the present day, and hopefully it will help me with my AR15’s itty bitty 70 grain pills in the wind. For a retired guy brought up on the M14, it is definitely a change. I was impressed to find a Made in the USA label on the Kestrel. It is quite the well-engineered tool!
Thanks to all on this forum who steered me to Doug and the Kestrel(y)

Nielson-Kellerman, the parent company, are in my top three companies to do business. To get there whatever I bought from them had to cease doing its job, break, or otherwise. Therefore customer service, or CS as is often substituted today, is exercised. Nielson-Kellerman have gone way out of their way to make me happy and they owed me no such service; they chose to go beyond. You'll be very satisfied with your Kestrel and Doug at Cameraland is very likely to get chosen for my next optical/photo purchase. Thanks for writing of a positive experience.

It is even a better deal when you factor in the cost to upgrade the firmware to the same as kestrel elite vs the outright cost of the elite by itself.

How much does it cost for an upgrade to the Elite software w/ AB?

Does this model have bluetooth connection to capable rangfinders from Sig, Leica, etc.? Or do you have to pony up to the Elite for that capability?

$190. There is another thread on it already, but the hardware is exactly the same in the Sportsman as the Elite and the firmware upgrade makes it the same as the elite just with a different outer package.

Got my Cameraland Kestrel running with a connection to a Bushnell ConX range finder today.

I think it's pretty much a one button operation now.

Choose my rifle, capture direction of fire, get a range through the ConX, Bluetooth gives me a firing solution.

I'll be taking it all to Sig Sauer this weekend attending a Reach for 1000 class.

It will be a challenge as I'm bringing an old school rifle.

Going to be a great day.

I have mine talking to my phone and my Sig KILO 3000BDX. Really nice to be able to range a target and get my elevation and windage in the binos in a split second.

That was a nice surprise, I was not expecting that.
Pretty cool, cheapest I saw the Kestrel 5700 with Link was for $600 then you need the better case with that vane. CONX with a Firmware Upgrade would click about $463-500. 🤙 Edit: $440 about if you don’t need those Dongles or cable.

Yep, helped a buddy buy one and after researching/feeding him some of the features/ possibilities the more I learned, too. Wasn’t intending to but I ended up ordering one about 0500 this morning for myself after all the info gathering and seeing what they are capable of and later when wanted upgrade to top level...win-win. 🤙😎

After not having all my ducks in a row, and instead straggling in slowly...when the upgrade is purchased for $190 you will add either a Bluetooth Dongle (plugs into PC for Bluetooth to Kestrel) for additional $23 together or choose a $50+ cable with it (has a special connector to the Kestrel). It has to happen from a Windows or Mac computer as these upgrade files are Computer Based. Not able to do this with iPhone. 🤙

I had a no name dongle that we used for a friends upgrade I think it was just a janky usb Bluetooth dongle we got somewhere but it worked.

if you have a dongle lying around try it before you spend $23

Thanks again to Doug I got in on one of these to upgrade to elite even though I’m quite happy with my 4dof version... at this price it’s hard to pass up especially with the vane which I was actually going to buy at some point.

How long after you purchase the $190 firmware upgrade did you guys receive the email containing the file. I purchased the upgrade and thought it would be an automatic download.

A person acutally processes the order and sends it to you.
According to there website "The emailed file will be delivered within 48 hours and are NOT sent between 2pm Friday and 9am Monday."

Ordered one myself Friday along with a range finder. Would have had it yesterday if the local post office distribution center didn't sit on it all weekend. Very happy with it so far.
