MPA Hybrid Chassis?

Hey guys,

Im a big fan of the MPA chassis, and have owned several. I have never owned one of their folding chassis though, and i have yet to try out their new Hybrid chassis.

I am beggining to like the idea of getting a folding hybrid chassis that i can use for competitions, including some local ones that require the shooter to "backpack" the gun, so having a chassis that I can swap weights with depending on the event would be great.

I have 2 questions:

1: To reduce weight, the Hybrid chassis does away with the wheel adjustment for the stock and instead uses set screws to hold the cheek and buttpad in place... Im not sure i like that idea. Ive had a chassis that used a thumbscrew to secure the cheekrest and it was constantly slipping down on me... Do you guys think this can prove to be a problem with the Hybrid chassis? Any Hybrid owners out there able to share experience here?

And 2: Since ive never owned an MPA folder, how tight is the lockup in the folded and unfolded positions? Any drawbacks aside from weight?

Thanks,
-SSS

I'm waiting on a Hybrid folder from MPA, not sure on the delivery date.

I'm not expecting issues with the adjustment because I can leave it alone and fold the stock to allow for bolt removal and cleaning.

I'll figure out a way to adjust perfectly for me and lock it in.

Thanks for the reply, im curious to see how you like it! Please let us know how it is.

My biggest concern with the set screw system is that the cheek/butt pad gets smacked or takes a fall during a hike, i dont want it to loosen up or slip, especially during a match because that could easily ruin a stage.
Hopefully it proves robust! Im just skeptical is all. Very interested in getting my hands on one.

I've had one for about a month, and haven't put a ton of rounds thru it, but I'm pretty sure the cheek piece and butt pad aren't going anywhere. There are 4 set screws that hold each in place. Torque them all and it'll be pretty secure. I don't have the folder, so can't really comment on that part.

Best of luck!

Anyone seen them in stock anywhere? Looking to pick a chassis up for a barreled action I have and would like to grab a hybrid, I'm just not willing to wait 8-12 weeks for one.

I'm hoping to have mine soon, I ordered in early March.

The only bad thing is I have a while to wait on my action.

McMaster-Carr sells pointed and textured set screws. They would put divots in the guide rods of the cheek piece and LOP rods, but they wouldn't be going anywhere.

McMaster-Carr is awesome. I never considered a pointed/textured screw, I'll have to look into that, it's a good idea. I REALLY like the idea of a Hybrid now, I've been mulling it over for weeks. I currently have an unused Comp Chassis, and I'm not sure whether to use it, or sell it for a Hybrid since I've already owned 2 other Comp chassis. All non-folders though.

I just sent MPA an email asking if the Enhanced, and Standard bag riders will snug up against the butt plate and ensure that it doesn't go anywhere. The Comp chassis are like that and I think it's a great touch.

I almost considered maybe ordering an extra cheek piece so I could dimple the rods with my drill press and see how that worked. But new screws sounds easier.
For all I know though, I'm just worrying too much and It'd be fine as-is. All it takes is just one person to tell me theirs slipped though and I'll be drilling away lol.

I hear they’ve had to re-design the folding mechanism due to some issues and are having difficulty getting them into production.

That would explain why I haven't seen any folders hit the market. Sure would like to find a hybrid non folder in stock somewhere though.

Check with the guys at Core ? They usually have a good supply.

I can’t wait for my hybrid to arrive, ordered in Feb.
I have the comp and the lite chassis as well but the hybrid will be for a switch barrel set up for F/tr weight limit and prs.

That doesn't sound good, I am coming up on 8 weeks but if November orders haven't shipped yet, my chance of getting mine by the end of May seems slim.

I just got an email, they said the revised folder parts were 2-3 weeks out.

That confirms the folder re-design unless they are just blowing smoke...

Good to know, I sent an email asking about them this morning. Ordered early March.

Well dang guys lol. I had no idea so many people ordered chassis and have been waiting a while.

I cant be caught without a chassis for my new build this summer! So in that case ill probably hold off on ordering one right away (because id have to sell my current chassis to fund it anyways). Ill use my Comp chassis until production catches up and reviews come out, then ill pick up a Hybrid when they start getting em out the door.

... Unless they do deposits on backorders? Do they have that or do i have to pay all up front?

MPA did email me back and said the bag riders (both enhanced and regular) do still snug up against the butt plate of the Hybrid to further secure it. So i dont have to worry about that part moving!

Ordered a lite folder mid nov and have been getting excuses for 3 months. If they didnt already have my money i would have bought elsewhere. Of course the website still says 8-12 weeks.

Crap, that doesn't sound good.

I might have to buy a KRG Bravo if I wind up with everything except my chassis.

Following this.

With the persuasive help of TennTurk, I ordered a MPA Competition chassis for my AI AT today.... Can't wait to rig it up and get down to business!

Lead times are lead times, not overly fussed when it comes as long as it's clean and works well.

Ordered a Lite folder 10/28/17 and a Hybrid 2/27/18 for a pair of TL3's. Called a week or two ago and was assured redesigned folder parts should be here soon and I would be well compensated for/taken care of for the delay..... We will see

Good stuff, keep me posted guys! I as well as plenty others I'm sure, are excited to see how you guys like MPA's new folders and Hybrids!

Follow-up:
Emailed early June as the last ETA had passed with no word and I was leaving for a match on the 14th. UPS delivered the stock on 6/14, after I had left (not MPA's fault entirely)
I excitedly weighed the stock to verify it was the 2.9lbs they advertised. It weighs 4lb 5 oz. Not a big deal to some, but I bought it for a specific low-weight purpose.
As for the 'well compensated for delay' part? I got a sticker.
All in all, I won't be doing business or recommending them to anyone- deceptive website, poor and uncommunicative CS, and not coming up with an answer until pressured by the customer.

Huh... Im bummed to hear about the weight. I think the 2.9 was without the buttpad, but i didnt think the buttpad would bring it up to well over 4 pounds.

I think ill stick to the comp chassis, and ill just get another cheaper chassis to use as the lightweight one. I have no money at the moment though so ill have to wait and see what changes they add to the comp line before i get back into the chassis buying game.

I picked one up also but from Tactical Works and it wasn't the advertised weight either. The butt pad is also micro thin on mine so I highly doubt it would increase the weight by half a pound. Mines also glued on which makes adjusting the butt pad completely useless. The chassis I received was also assembled like shit and I'm pretty over it so hopefully I can return it.

Just saw the chassis on CORE's site and they advertise it at 3.5lbs now.

I just drop shipped one to a cerakoter.. This thread has me rethinking that decision since I've never seen one in the wild.

Interested to see how many people are having issues with it. Is the recoil pad easily replaceable?

Yes. I thought mine was glued at first but the holes to the bolts were just well hidden.

I also took the butt pad off and the bipod rail and my Hybrid chassis came in at 3.72 pounds. The bag rider is only 1.6 ounces. With my spigot mount and one rail, bag rider, and butt pad the chassis weighs 3lbs 15 oz.

So I'm really curious how MPA is coming up with 2.9 pounds

Well guys I finally got confirmation on my hybrid stock to be shipped today. I ordered it the first part of June 2018. Hope the juice was worth the squeeze.

Ordered mine in May, still waiting. Have been told customs are delaying ITAR items by possibly up to 3 months... Will be a full 12 months before I see it probably :cautious:

Jeez dude... I've actually since decided to get a KRG W3 folder. For those waiting on a Hybrid, I hope the best, I'm still curious to know how they turn out for yall.

MPA is listing 3.5 now. Wonder where the 2.9 came from

They were initially advertising it as 2.9 lbs without the butt pad when the chassis was introduced, I and a few others on here got them and they weighed 4lbs or more and i'm sure their was others as well. How they missed the weight difference after manufacturing is beyond me. They either didn't confirm or did and decided to mislead customers anyway.

My chassis had several defects, so it needed to go back anyways but when i confronted MPA about the weight discrepancy, they really didn't show any interest in acknowledging it and left the wrong advertised weights up for sometime after. Enough people must have gotten on them when they started realizing their chassis weighed nearly pound more than advertised in some cases so they finally must have decided to change it.
