Hey all, just posted my updated Matrix review after 12 months, and numerous matches I’ve got what are mostly my final thoughts.

Would absolutely love your guys feedback! As well as questions, comments, concerns. Thanks all!

My mag catch crapped on me during a 2 day match. The screw will back out no matter how tight I have it at every stage. I talked to MPA and they have a revised screw that fits tighter. Didnt know about it til after the match. My fix after the first day was, I cut a little strip of soda can and rolled it to the thickness I needed and sandwitched it at the bottom to prevent the mag catch from sliding down. It worked flawless on the 2nd day.

thanks for that! Any idea if that new screw is already available or still in the works?

I heard everyone that got a chassis late 2020 got the new screws they are black in colour. Waiting for my Matrix. You video has made me nervous about this chassis. I think I'll loctite mine.

Here is what I did to fix the issue. The original screw is stainless, not good, and the Allen size I believe is 1.5mm, also not good. The modified screw is a T15 Torx. Compare the purchase between to two screws not to mention the harder material in the steel screw.

Original screw is 0.233" diameter, slot in mag catch is 0.230"

New hardened steel screw is a diameter of 0.260"

    And a slight bit longer.

So I place screw in drill, turn down outside diameter, and then thread screw into jig and grind down. I can now use a T15 Torx instead of a 1.5mm Allen. I can now crank down on the screw and problem solved.

If I get some interest in replacement screws I can run a batch of these and ship them out to other members who have this chassis. PM me if U are in need of a screw and I will help wherever I can. I have performed this fix on several other MPA chassis. How do I spell plural chassis? Chassises? Cheers.

I’d definitely be in for one if you’re willing to do them! Just let me know the cost!

yea a few people have informed me of that. Mine was one of the first ones made so hopefully they’ve improved the screw. I wouldn’t be nervous about the Chassis tho. I really love it as I stated. Minus the 2 cons and mostly just the screw.

I'm gana give Shooter J solution a go, sounds very promising.

Just a bit curious. Have U ever owned a TT scope?

I assume you mean a Tangent Theta. And yes absolutely. I’ve owned about 4. A 3-15M and 3) 5-25’s. I actually have a comparison video of my TT and ZCO on my YouTube channel.

Man I thought this was who I was thinking of. I am also going to assume U work for a sports network?

Ok all, I have modified a good amount of screws tonight. Please PM me the address and I can send them out as soon as I can

I communicated with MPA regarding the mag-catch issue.

They said they updated the threads on the catch -- I wonder if that will resolve the problem for future production?

the god damn black screws they are putting in them now as they come from MPA are bitches to get out. i've stripped out the head on two of them. drilled out one screw and replaced it and now i have to drill out the second and hope i get lucky and not fuck up the threads.

Are they still allen heads? Or did they move to torx?

I must say this issue concerns me --- I really like the Matrix chassis otherwise, and I think I will still buy one.

However, it seems like this is something that MPA could/should address more thoroughly.

If you happen to unfortunately strip one of the screws I have had luck in the past using left hand drill bits. Tighten the chuck really well, run the bit in reverse and this usually removes the fastener. Then proceed to send me a PM with your address so I can ship some out to you. The fastener I use is a modified hardened steel style that is a T15 Torx, and I also include a perfect tool to tighten them.

I have some other improvements that I have made to the designs that I will post about later in time when I have a chance.

The worst "change" I have experienced lately is the use of stainless fasteners. I love their scope bases with 0.0002" concentricity, roundness, and cylindricity to the bore. However MPA changed to stainless fasteners. A terrible mistake. A customer ordered one in, when he hit 45 ft lbs, the threads stripped off of the screw.

I am not one to bash a company over a design flaw or trash them online, not implying anyone here is doing just that. I just call or email them to let them know my issue. When enough people let them know about the issues they are having, likely changes will follow. In the mean time I will do whatever I can to help fellow shooters with a small fix that will keep them happy with their purchase and hopefully avoid the issues I experienced at matches.

I’ve seen some of your other reviews on you tube, and found them very informative. When I was contemplating a ZCO your review put me into a buyer, I never regretted that decision. Happy Holidays. Kind of glad I went with the TCS over the Matrix. The rear balance would have driven me nuts.

Thanks for the watch! Really appreciate that!

After handling both the Matrix and the ACC, most of my friends and I have all settled back onto the ACC.

Are you sticking with the Matrix? I know you ran both for quite some time. I just don't see enough benefit off the Matrix, except having to constantly throw weights to balance it... I guess if you're looking to really hit a 24lb beast.

I wish the TCS would have an adjustable grip. I need it about 1/4" forward to get the 90 degree trigger pull.

I haven’t decided yet. I think the ACC is a little more versatile. For example, right now because of lack of components I may go back to shooting 6.5CM for a little while. And I’ve got a perfectly good 6.5 medium Palma barrel I can use, however I’d probably never be able to get it to balance in a Matrix (or it would be iffy at best). With the ACC, I’m confident I could configure it somehow to balance.
that said, currently I’m running my W3 for the next review video.

Appreciate the watch brother! I’ve got a TCS review on the books after I finish the current chassis (W3).

Excited for the W3!! My shooting partner has the acc and I have the mpa comp and w3. Hoping to get behind the acc this winter for a thought on all 3
