Muzzlebrake Mayhem

It is a freaking riot.

Don't get what the hubbub is about. I have never had an issue as I always courteously let people know if they choose to set up next to me on the line. No one has ever complained.

I've been on a tight line in the pouring rain at a match with brakes on both sides.
I was wet but seemingly it didn't get any sand in my vagina.

The ironic thing is the people who are saying that the people who use muzzle brakes to spot shots are weak and need to get better at shooting are the same people who are saying it's uncomfortable to shoot next to a muzzle brake.

That said, if you're not used to it it's a pretty jarring experience at first to be next to a muzzle brake. I've gotten used to it though and don't really notice it anymore unless it's shooting gravel at me. Worst experience I ever had was when someone's brake loosened up and a bullet clipped their brake when they were shooting next to me and I got some brake shrapnel embedded in my hand, which is about how they seem to describe being next to a brake normally.

Paging @1J04 , we need some midget porn published in the muzzle brake mangina/equip circus.

Fuck me running. Gawd Dammit, you bastards already got it locked. Just got outta a grueling Superior Court Detail and didn't dare bust out the Celly during this one. FUCK !! Probably just as well. Rob smacked a couple people already and locked that baby up tight. I'm guessing @Culpeper is one of them. @Rthur is outta control I'm telling you. Always liked that guy. :ROFLMAO:

To be honest, as @Rthur stated, it "had" potential.

But it became more embarrassing than anything else. Pretty weak sauce overall. But still, over a gawd damn MuzzyBreak. o_O

I lol at everyone that says I'm "soft AF" because most brakes hurt my ears even with doubled up protection but then they also say they NEED that brake to control the massive recoil of their 6.5. Ok so I can hear really good and your muzzle blast directed literally AT ME makes my ears ring WITH doubled up protection yet you can't handle the recoil of a 6.5 and I am the soft AF one??? Learn to control your recoil and grow a pair and keep your muzzle blast in your own lane. OR be courteous to those around you when shooting with a brake. It is actually really simple.

Bender gets the trophy on that one! “Can’t quite rub one out on this thread”??? recoil at 20, no prob, 30 no prob,40 no prob, 50.......fuck that? I’ll just take my pussy ass to the range where there is a berm between me and the next shooter with 50 yards between us?

So.... loud noises are scary?

Maybe golf is in order....

Ps. I’m civilized, I have a can....but brakes don’t bother me. My buddy has one in his 300 WM.... it puts hair on my chest just standing next to it when he lights it off!!
Has zero to do with scary and 100% do do with it being painful and damaging to my ears. I have about 5% body fat so maybe that makes the bone conduction to my ears worse than some people. I had no idea recoil was so scary....

There is only one solution to this argument, and that's the deregulation of suppressors on the NFA rolls. If only Congress would get off their asses and pass that shit, we could go back to arguing .308 vs 6.5.

I would love to be able to shoot suppressed, however, I am 70 and on a small pension so I don't have the $$s to get a stamp and by the time it got to me they would probably throw it in the casket and say,"Here you go Foul One, your heart was in the right place as to keeping hearing intact but your heart gave out before Uncle Sugar could act, besides you didn't have the loot to feed us." FM

Brakes for me are a tool I use for my 300RUM, as an example, to resolve flinching. Keep the 300 as I would like to try my hand at a mile once I have more tools under my belt. $3,0000.00 ATACR puts everything I would like to do on the back burner for awhile and will honestly probably buy another before I consider a suppressor. I’m pretty new and almost all the advice that I have seen puts the suppressor last so it’s a break till I get there. For me, everything goes on the back burner till I fix optics IMHO?

You may want to have your inner ear canals checked out.
Kinda the effect of not being able to "pop" the ears as one gains depth diving.

jesus christ....when did gun owners start to become such blubbering pussies?

bitching about muzzle brake blast....god forbid we ever have to raise a citizen militia...wed be screwed.
This argument is as old as "My buttstock pulls out my beard hair" or "AARGH, I scratched my Nightforce!!!" These are strange times.

Corrugated roof covered ranges are as much or more at fault for increased hearing loss as muzzle brakes are. Nobody is raising hell over those.

My Kramer and Marshall have taken some of mine as well.

Soldano 4/12 slant......now that will get the neighbors attention?. My first decent guitar was a Kramer and loved it. Even with plugs that I didn’t use because I was trying to impress the ladies, that high end is brutal let alone the rest of the band?

I triple dog dare you to get run over by a car, break your neck, have 5 injured vertebrae and discs, and then shoot a 50, a 408, or 375 without a brake. .

Recoil isn't scary to me, paralysis from the neck down is. Shooting im not giving up. So, if u see me coming with the 50 and brake, leave....

Right? Cause a real man would just sit and take the pain and deal with the hearing loss. Am I right? If we are talking real man shit why don't we just take the recoil like men and learn how to control it?

I'm good! lol. Seriously though, I have a brake on a rifle and have nothing against them. But when dudes are all "oh don't be a pussy just sit next to my brake and take it", that bothers the hell out of me. Just be a good person and be courteous. Let them know "this shit may be loud, tell me if it's painful and we can alternate strings." Done. THat is what I do when I shoot my braked rifle. I guess I just dont get the whole manly eardrum thing.

Depending on the situation it may not be that the recoil is painful, but simply that it moves the scope too much for you to accurately spot shots. Specifically this usually happens in medium range situations around 200-500 yards where the bullet gets there before you can get the scope back on target. If the ground/berm is damp you may not see misses off the steel plate because your scope isn't back on target fast enough.

That said, yeah you should probably warn people if you're shooting a braked rifle in an enclosed space. Mainly because I've seen it cause an AD or two from someone flinching when the guy next to them shot with a brake and they were lining up their own shot.

It is all in good fun. To be truthful, I never used a brake before getting this new barrel which came threaded. My shooting buds all use brakes and have been telling me to get one for a while.

I don't notice too much of a recoil reduction but reduced muzzle jump makes shot to shot recovery definitely better. None of my buds ever complain and neither should they as I have been bearing the brunt of theirs for a while. My buddy Gordon shoots a .300 RUM with a brake that looks more like a can than a brake. The blast from that is a hoot. It can knock over my spotter if it is too close.

The noise is no fuss to me.

If you are missing steel at 200-500 you got more issues than needing a brake!!
