That was the gun back when I shot NRA bullseye. I always forget about there sporting options no question that they make awesome rifles.

Thanks I’m loving it. It’s a older vx3 lr with impact reticle. It’s just borrowed off my 64 until I get something for this one looking at Zeiss V6 or 2.5-20 nx8

Can you work the actioni with the bolt lever or do you have to close it with your thumb pushing on the rear of the bolt?

Nice gun OP. Almost pulled the trigger on one numerous times. I dont like the small mag capacity. Id use it for high volume squirrel shooting, and 10 rd mags would be ideal. Anyway, congrats!

No, they close with the lever.

Isn't that the whole concept with Fortner actions - to close the bolt with your thumb for the speed aspect?!

At least my 1827F is like this and I can't imagine the 1727 is any different.

Opening is done in two ways -

The most popular way is operating it ""fast"", so opening the action to the rear you pull on the bolt handle with your pointing finger and when the proper amount of tension is met then the action will pop back fast, ejecting the case, and then you push forweard fast with the thumb.

The slow way is to grasp the bolt handle with fore finger and thumb and pull back slowly (like if you want to see if you have a loaded round in there or not by partially pulling the handle back part way) then push the bolt back forward while still grasping it between your forefinger and thumb to put the live round back in.
Or eject the case by pulling the bolt handle all the way back.
For that matter you can operate the bolt this way at any speed as well.

Nevertheless the Fortner action is by far my favorite action of any I've tried including centerfires. Its just a wonderful marvel of firearms design!

Just so you know the 10 round 22rf magazines work in the 1827F and I think the 1727F as well.

I don't think there are any 17HMR 10 round mags though for the 1727 in that cartridge.

This one will never be for sale !! Yeah the 10 rd mags for the 54 and 64 actions are the same. My magazines for my 64 action are exactly the same except they have a plastic follower this one has metal follower

I'm jealous!

Man I would love a 1727F exhibition grade in 17HMR! I held back because I wanted 10 round mags for it as well.

I had to have a custom pic mount made for my 1827F to support my heavy scopes because the 11mm dovetail is thin aluminum which was only designed for the aperture sights.

His question was can you close it with a lever or do you have to push the bolt with your thumb. That was why I answered the way I did.

Regarding magazines, they really need to do a 10 round HMR. I don’t need or use a 22 Long rifle for anything.

One of these days I'll get one of those rifles.
It's always been something I want, I just can't justify spending the money.

I have a 1727 that replaced my 1827 Sprint. I really like it. I messed up and got the GRS stock instead of the walnut. But I added a Gemtech Mist (Integral suppressor) which makes it better. The seam can be barely seen just fwd of the OBJ bell.

So much fun to shoot.

You can run it either way. It’s more natural to let your thumb rest on the back of the bolt and close it with the flick of the wrist.

This is probably the best 22 I’ve ever seen and yes I comment on it every time because it’s amazing what you’ve done.

Coolest action, most comfortable stock, great integral suppressor so it looks stock, amazing scope, etc… if it shoots half as good as it looks, it should be amazing
