Like many of you I worked through the PaNdEmIc so I don’t REALLY know what’s real and what’s not real.

Had to run to a local Toyota Stealership cause I needed a part, and I like to buy factory stuff. I SERIOUSLY thought it was only Ferd and Cheby suffering the “Chip Shortage.” The local Toyota dealership looked like they do when they take all the inventory to a carnival sales event.

Guy looked at me like I was kidding when I asked how things were going. He said “things are great! Cars sit for 3 days and they sell” told me how just yesterday they watched as 3 salesmen RUSHED to SIMULTANEOUSLY make a deal on the exact same Tacoma.😳

He then immediately offers me $40,000 for a vehicle I purchased 3 years ago for $43,000. I politely declined and asked how he came to that number. He said it’s what they paid this morning for the same vehicle and already sold it BEFORE going to detail.

Out of curiosity I gave him my number and said “let me know when $43k is on the table”

Gentleman claiming to be the Head Sales Man just rang me asking if Id consider $41,500? I declined.

I should go pick up another part this weekend at the ol Memorial Day sale w a “for sale $43,000 ZERO TAX” sign in my window.

Im not even looking to sale but WTF?!

people seem to have forgotten the value of money, it must grow on trees. I’m far from rich, I must be because WTF is happening?!

What say you?

Mustangs are up 10k from what I've observed. On one hand, I'd love to sell my truck right now but I can't buy in this market.

I say;

In 6 months to a year, the latest shakedown/catastrophic financial event (CV 21, Iran nuking someone, etc.) will have hit and those that have mortgaged themselves to the hilt will be pushing stolen shopping carts with one wheel missing under freeway overpasses and climbing under their cheap chinese blue tarps and going night, night.

This is a seller's market, not a buyer's market. It's going to last another 6 months, tops. In 18 months, the equivalent vehicle that you mentioned will be going for $14K wholesale, tops. Mannheim will be full of all those vehicles that are selling for premiums right now and the bids will be few and far between.

Everything is like this I heard farm equipment is in short supply and used equipment is off the charts.

I traded in an 20 model f350... I gave $52,000 for it new. They gave me $50,000 for it on trade and sold it for $58,000

How much would a new one cost? A new fully loaded Tacoma in my area is around 48k msrp. If you can be in a new truck for 5-7k why not?

increased insurance, feeling like I have to baby it, increased registration, tax on the purchase, larger wheels/more expensive tires, toyota tech is terrible but most of all…..cause $5k is still a lot of money to me.

I’m happy w my current ride.

it just shocked me because it’s one thing to hear about it, it’s completely different when you experience it first hand.

also, guy said there were ZERO tundras being made right now. Maybe that was a lie. If I’m buying a new truck I don’t want a Taco, I want a 5.7L tundra.

It's almost like people just got a bunch of money they didn't earn and have cash to blow......oh wait!
Government subsidized economic growth and the inflation that goes with it will seriously fuck all of people that don’t understand what’s going on right now. I was house shopping over the last few month. I put 13 offers in all 10-30k over ask (30k over was on a forever home I would have stayed in till I died so I wasn’t worried about overpaying too bad) most sold for 50-75k over ask.... fuck that

If you've noticed, Ford really F'd-up the new 'stang, even made it elec.. So...yeah, that could be part of the reason people are paying a little extra. Made the 'stang the new "Man-Bun" ride. Mac

He may have meant there are no Tundras being made right now. I dunno about your area but Tundras seem to be in short supply here.

I just bought a tundra —guy sold it for his father — 2000 4.7 liter v8 — 68,000 miles -4wd access cab

toyota just replaced the frame last week — never met the father but he must have been a small guy, driver seat isn’t even broken in yet

gave $7k for it

you guys make me think I should list it for silly money and see what happens

That is a 15k truck if not rusted.

I just bought a 2021 Ford Ranger XLT Tremor and paid sticker. I got a decent trade on my 2004 Ranger too. Though they said it will be going straight to auction, they can't keep anything that old around. As empty as the lots are I would think they would resell anything.

he could have been embellishing. I asked for clarification. He claims they shut down production of the Tundra and Sequoia.

your response of “shut down for now” is probably correct. I certainly hope so.

I saw a Mercedes media release they are no longer seeking improvements to the internal cumbustion engine and will 100% shift to electric vehicles.

4.7 has a timing belt. Make sure to service that. 5.7 has a chain.

Chevy dealer offered me $32,000 for my 2016 F-250 Lariat gasser with 200,000 miles on it. Decided I’ll just hold onto it as I’m not having any problems with it.

Traded in my so so 15 Chevy for an 18 Dodge Laramie Longhorn. The money they gave me for my Chevy was a shit ton more than I expected. I can tell you Dodge knows how to build a nice truck.

I'd like to purchase a new /lightly used truck but with these crazy prices... and a fixed income... I'm going to put some money into the 2012 Tundra and hope it lasts another 100K

The problem is having a good deal lined up to sell at this point...I would love to sell mine, but don’t have a replacement.
Out of curiosity I asked what I would get for my 2016 Ram Laramie 1500 ecodiesel. I paid 31k in Aug of 2019 for it. Had 24k miles on it at the time.

I have 42k miles on it now and they offered me 36. So I could make 5k off of it for driving it 20k miles in 21 months. Crazy.

This is why I have trust issues.

the rules keep changing.

If you have spare vehicles, now it's the time to sell your new stuff and wait the market out. Once chip production fills the lots with new stuff used values will fall.

The lack of new deliveries is killing the whole market.

frame was rusted through so I was told — not anymore, along with the new frame they did new brake and fuel lines, and lower A arms — I haven’t found any body rust yet although the clear coat is peeling

My 1st toyota — I’ve read about needing the timing belt changed somewhere around 100,000 miles — should it be done sooner just because of age?

Well just ran the KBB on my 2016 ram 3500 Laramie. Bought in 2018 w/10k on it for 51k, now with 40k kbb says TRADE IN not even private sale for 61k.

jeez.

looked up the cost of a new truck like it...80k. Yeah I’ll just stick with what I got. Only a couple more years before the notes paid off.

When they break you lose valve timing. Piston goes up, valve stays open. BOOM. No compression. Then you get the joy of resurfacing 2 heads and buying me valves.

I did mine at 60k no matter what. Change the h20 pump and oil pump cause you are there. Might as well flush out coolant too. That toyota red is expensive. I buy the full strength and cut it 50:50

blew a belt on a civic still had lots of mileage left. No asshole driving. It just failed on the freeway one day. In the summer.

that’s why I only fool w timing chains these days.

We recently traded in our toyota highlander and got 7k more than what we paid for it. Got an f350 super duty for our new purchase.

Got a 5th wheel camper that's gonna be home for the next 3 years. Then leaving CO to go back to florida near eglin.

Doc
We traded in our F350 super duty that I had just bought for an F450 super duty dually...the F350 wasn't rated high enough to pull the fricken Noah's boat sized 5th wheel my wife just had to have pffft lol. One thing I'll admit...the short turning radius the wide track front axle gives this truck is sweet.

Our plan's the same kinda...going to live in the 5th wheel while we have a house built on some property we bought once we sell our current home.

That combo easily out prices my humble home all day! Kudos to you both. Hopefully one day I’ll have this level of freedom. Just takes discipline. 👍

Well I'll tell ya...a few years back if you told me I'd end up with something like this I'd laughed at you lol...funny how the road turns and here you are. The wife makes pretty good money (I'm retired) and we ended up buying some property on the east side of our state to get away from the craziness of the west side (Seattle area). Selling one house and building the other while living in the 5th wheel seemed like the best path. We're older too so we've had the time to maneuver financially. You'll get there no worries 👍

My daughter works at a dealership and she was telling me about someone test driving a vehicle that was in the process of financing by someone else.
A salesman asked.... Where's the blue XYZ? Ummmm Jake just took a guy for a test drive in it. That friggin car is sold they can't be test driving it!!!! She just smiled and shrugged.
She's not looking forward to this weekend.

Low expectations. I bought a new '06, drove for eight years. Gave it to my son who drove it until last October. Only repair was a starter at about 150K, just routine maintenance over 220K miles. He got over book when he sold.

I switched to Toyoya/Lexus over 20 years ago. In a moment of bad judgement bought a Chevy about six years ago. Unloaded after a few years and still regret buying.

Unless something dramatic happens in the industry, my garage will be Toyota only 'til I'm gone...ain't paying for another Lexus.

Yup....mom used to say...make sure you wear clean underwear incase you get into an automobile accident....I figured out long ago it was just easier to not wear any lol 🤔🤔...😉

Back in HS a friend and I were in an accident. My bud was moderately injured, but not life threatning. I was in the ER with him when his parents got there. The first words out of his mom's mouth after, "Are you all right?" She then turned to her husband and said, "Look at his socks." Back to Bud and preceeded to dress him down for wearing dirty, holey socks.
