I just saw PVA posted this on facebook. Looks like an incredible deal. I know most smiths are charging close to this price for just labor on a barrel blank. I plan on ordering a new action with a couple barrels myself.

Here is their post:

A little heads up... now that we can talk about the awesome new 3 Lug NUCLEUS from American Rifle Company we will be doing a group buy on competition caliber rifle barrels for the NUCLEUS action.

I am putting the web store listing together tonight but the broad strokes are that we will offer a few contours and a handful of high popularity calibers. The price is going to be $475 shipped CONUS. That price includes muzzle threads amd a thread protector cap.

These are NOT barrel nut setups, these are fully shouldered installations.

Blanks used are from Rock Creek Barrels.
Contours are:
Med Palma
Marksman
Heavy Palma

The $475 price tag utilizes our proprietary specification button rifled, double normalized and hand lapped 5R barrel blanks.

Anyone worried about button vs cut rifling? We will do a cut rifled barrel from Rock Creek at a $125 upcharge. I will say that I have personally been shootimlng these PVA specific barrels in extensive testing through 2017 and I have 3 club match wins to prove just how well they shoot. But we will make a cut rifled barrel for the upcharge associated with the blank.

Can you provide a kink, I'm having trouble finding that page on my phone.

What action wrench are we gonna need for the Nucleus? I haven't seen anything about this yet but it's gonna be necessary to install a shouldered barrel... Just trying to get all my ducks in a row, haha. Ordered a Nucleus already, just need to order a barrel or 2 and some more bolt heads...

I'd wager a 700 action wrench(?), since it's a 700 footprint and the diameter would have to be the same to match the foot print.

Question/request for Josh (since I'm sure he's not busy attending SHOT this week or anything)... might it be possible to offer other chamberings in these barrels for an upcharge? Specifically, I am wanting to go with 7LRM and 6.5-280 AI for my long action Nucleus (I ordered it with the .475 bolt head, and then separately ordered a .535 bolt head). Also, what are the odds of getting these barrels with a tenon configured to work with a Barloc?

If you're talking about an action wrench that grabs the outside of the action, that may work... but for a rear-entry wrench, I don't see it being compatible, given the unique (compared to an off-the-shelf R700) arrangement of the lugs on the Nucleus.

I'm in on this deal and wondering about the action wrench as well. We have time before we get our barrels to figure it out. I'm also wondering what the price will be after this deal. I can only really afford one barrel right now but if the price will be a lot higher later, I will order two.

One thing I can't figure out is when I'm going thru order it adds $50 for thread and cap. In description it "includes" as part of barrel. Thoughts?

I've ordered some barrels from Josh before. This option is for a seamless thread cap.

Sorry for the lack a claarity; I had assumed 1.) that the mentioning of the OD of the receiver clearly indicated referring to an outside action wrench, and 2.) that most would understand that the Nucleus' triple raceway and unique bolt head would probably negate using a standard rear entry wrench.

I emailed Ted about what action wrench the Nucleus needed and he said it will need one specific to the Nucleus that isn't available yet but will be by the time they start shipping.

Are you considering one?

Any chance you will offer nitride barrels that will match the actions?

Can I get an 18" barrel?

Anyone ordering a 6mm Creedmoor house barrel from Josh for the Nucleus? If so, what length ya going with? I'm wondering what the drop off in speed would be between the 20,22,24 inch barrels? I've never owned a 6 creed..

Not from Josh, but my 22.5" 6 creed load is 3050 with a 105 H-VLD

Has anyone spoken to Josh to inquire about adding. 223 to the group buy?

I messaged him on Instagram last night. FYI, for the nucleus barrel group buy, if you choose the cut rifled option for a 6mm caliber, it will be a 7.5 twist.

He just got back late this evening from SHOT. I passed this thread along so I'm sure you will have some answers shortly. I know getting barrels from PVA for the Barloc won't be a problem but I'm not sure on pricing. I'm sure he will jump in tonight or tomorrow.

So what's the cool guy barrel contour?

Planning a 18" Creedmoor that'll sit in a KRG Bravo. It'll have a Dead Air Sandman K or S on the end of it.

Anyone know if a Barloc for the Nucleus action will fit in a KRG Bravo Chassis without modification? Specifically, the current barrel nut version...

They’re running their SOTIC barreled action in one, which has a barrel nut. The gen 5 I have has approximately 1.35” of clearance, so my guess is it’ll fit.

The Nucleus uses a specific wrench.
Ted tasked me with designing the wrench, it's done and out for quote right now. Neither of us has the bandwidth to make them right now.

I do not offer nitride on barrels as a standard option because it's too likely to jack up a barrel and I'm not going to eat the cost of a barrel because of nitride. We will send it out for nitride but it voids the warranty of any support. It doesn't happen often, about 1 in 20, but considering the price point on the barrels I'm not taking a 5% loss rate into the price model.

The "seamless thread protector" is a completely turned and blended cap that goes on the threads. It cannot be seen once the owrk is complete. You need to break it loose to see that it's not integral to the barrel.

The standard barrel comes with a thread protector, it's just not seamless.

You can order any barrel from 16-26" but the Group Buy pricing is based on the available contours and available lengths because the workholding built specifically for those contours accomodates barrels in the 20-26" range.

We'll build you anything you want but the Group Buy has limitations imposed to streamline the process, reduce touch time and therefore reduce the end user cost. Custom is going to cost more.

Following this. Im really hoping it will drop in to the j allen chassis with no modification. They also state a 1.35" barrel will free float. A standard savage small shank barrel nut is about 1.31" so if it fits, its going to be close
We dropped a Nucleus with BarLoc on it into a BRAVO, Magpul Hunter, and several other chassis last week. We didn't get to try it in a JAE but if they can take a 1.35 barrel channel then you'll be fine.

How would it play with a Manners stock with mini-chassis?
