I know all of the neat things we on here like and need are unobtanium, and there aren't as many selections on the grocery store shelves as before, but how far down the supply chain has this China Flu shit hit and are we headed to something like Venezuala? I think we might be.

Yesterday I got a wild hair up my ass and decided I wanted a new nightstand next to my bed, nicer shelves and maybe a drawer or 2 and a nice reading light.

My Squaw loaded me into her Slab and we went to every fuckin store in town that sells that kind of shit and could only find 1 that was too wide for the area I have for it so it was a no go. All of the other stores had nothing, so 1 fugly nightstand was all I could find and I didn't want that POS. I would rather have a few mortar round ammo boxes instead.

I thought,"No problem, I will just get on the net and order one in." Wrong again Hiawatha.

Everyplace I looked on the internet was Out of Stock for what I wanted and big bucks for what you are getting that, were it available.

How far down the chain of supply is this happening? I think a long ways on everything for the most part.

It doesn't look good to me. FM

Bonus bucks from the government has caused a run on all kinds of home remodeling and refurnishing.
Have you not driven past a lowe's or home Depot in the last 10 months?
It's been crazy in the housing market as well. All the new home buying has caused a need for furniture.

I would build what I want for a night stand. Here's a pic of my current project.

A buddy of mine owns a small furniture store he said the furniture market has been hit very hard by the China flu. He said items he could use to get in a week are on a 3-6 months backorder.

White Oak! I love white oak. Heres a pair of speakers I had built from white oak, the legs are American walnut.

As to the OP, it may be awhile. Try buying a freezer.

pier one was a good place for that sort of thing, but they gone.

I know that if you are looking for a new SeaDoo or new water skis you better get the order in.

I work for John Deere have fun this spring getting parts for your stuff. It’s a mess. Oh and Polaris is worse. I’m glad I don’t work on those , they can’t give us an honest est. on delivery.

Find a local cabinet builder or local carpenter. Then you get it made in the USA and how you want it. I didn’t even bother looking for a bed frame last year for my son when he needed a twin bed. $80 in materials plus the stuff I had in my shop and a day of time and he had a bed.

Two days ago, our new refrigerator was finally delivered. I ordered it on Sept 10 last year, and they warned me outright--"we have no way to estimate a delivery date. Covid has decimated the assembly line process and supply chain."

Sooo... 5 months and a day is what it took to get a GE side-by-side. I think I got lucky.

Luckily Amazon has a direct pipeline from China for all of your goods and services. In a strange set of coincidence and circumstances, leftist business owners from the likes of Amazon, Netflix, Google, Wal-Mart, etc a have benefitted greatly from the 'Vid and the government bonuses.

My next woodworking project is a head board. I have a front panel from an old Piano with carving on it.

not much better than the feeling of needing something then instead of just buying some over priced cheap quality item from some company you make it your self (y)(y)(y) that you can do it attitude is a good thing .

I like the mortar round/ammo box idea.
Why was your woman unchained?
There should only be enough chain length for kitchen to laundry.
You guys are way too soft on your womenfolk.
I like my women, how I have my fish.
Fresh,
White,
and Battered.
Aw comeon GOF we know what you really go for...

As I read the comments.... My thoughts were "These guy's are reading my mind".... I have a JD tractor, 2 older Ford trucks (Gas / Diesel) and a Chevy Cavalier beater... At best, I am simply maintaining my equipment. Why ? Because I can't get any extra parts. When I replace a part, the old part goes in my stash box... I have more garden boxes built that need soil and seeds.... Seeds are getting hard to find for spring planting....
Stocking up on oil filters and engine oil..... Folks around me are getting tired of hearing me use the word "Maintain".... What ever you have, take care of it.... in the near future you may not be able to replace it.

I built a custom hope chest for a relative's 16th b-day. Walnut, cedar lined, Corian inlay on the front. Another family member said it was beautiful and I could "probably sell it for $300-400". She shit when I said I had that much in material.

If people want walmart quality, go to walmart. If the want heirloom quality, come see me. There is a difference.

How much for a nightstand? It will need to be able to hold a phone, some guns and a water bottle or two..

I know what you mean. I built this cedar Patio furniture a month ago and my buddy's wife said I should do it for a living, and could easily sell it for $800. I laughed.

Got similar reactions to the solid oak coffee table and end table that I built. People are jaded by the walmart price. Thats why I quit building custom gun leather for anyone but myself. 99% of people are not willing to pay for quality.

I built my wife a porch swing for mothers day a few years ago. I've had several people tell me they want me to build them one. I just say go down to walk mart and buy one. Mine will be around 100 years from now but people don't give a shit about that. I would love to take mine and a wal mart swing and stack weights in the middle and see what the outcome is. But that doesn't matter, its about the dollar. People can pay $200 and if it last 10 years they are good, if its $500 and last forever, well who lives forever? The problem is people don't save up and buy shit. People buy shit on credit.
