OK so my nephew wanted to get an AR, after shopping around a bit and pricing by piece / parts, usefull options vs. price i suggested he goes with a PSA as a "starter".

After reading the reviews of even the "blemished" pieces, i was pretty confident PSA offered a good product at a great price. so we ordered an upper and lower. SUPER pleased with the results!!!

though i was trying to talk him into a .224 valkyrie we settled on a 5.56 upper, 16" threaded w/birdcage A2 profile, Mlok handguard with full top rail, flattop receiver, came with ch handle and full auto BCG. MBUS sights included, MID LENGTH tube for $319.

the lower has magpul upgraded desert tan / khaki grip and forestock. came with pins. $139.

so with free shipping, transfer at the FFL, and a magpul magazine (on sale) it turned out to be a pretty darn good platform for under $500 with some nice features. operates flawlessly through 500 rounds so far, and doing 1.25" groups at 50Y, and under 2" with the MBUS sights. i'm pretty sure the operator(s) can do better when it's fitted with an optic, but out of the box this thing was very satisfying.

the finish on the product was outstanding, no scratches or unattended to machine marks, a slight misalignment with the handguard rail and receiver rail but a quick adjustment had it lined up perfectly.

trigger has some creep in it, but broke smoothly at 6lbs, which was better than i thought the trigger would be.

great job PSA!

PSA is GTG. Except if you're in a hurry. They seem to take their sweet time shipping. But, if you go in knowing this, it's not an issue. I have A LOT of PSA AR15 stuffs.

I live near their stores and go by a good bit. Some of their products have a few issues but all companies do at some point. For the price point they make good equipment.

I've got some PSA stuff-good to go. CHF complete upper shoots really well. Good place to pick up lpks etc and stash away-especially nowadays.

A couple times a year I buy their blemished upper and lower receivers, along with the LPKs. Pretty solid foundation for a build at an affordable price.

Buy a top quality barrel, trigger and BCG and you are set.

Their owner is a great guy who has stated he wants to put an AR into as many hands as possible. I own 6, have helped 20+ others buy from them.

Only a couple of those AR's have rear sights or scopes. But then again, I doubt sights are going to be banned. It would really bug me to have all those in the safe without at least a good mechanical zero on.

Optics Ready. ?

Great collection, I wasn't trying to be negative at all. I hope it didn't come across that way.

It's a personal quirk of mine. My guns all have Post-it notes rubber banded to the barrel with the ammunition and distance they are zero'd for. I know I'm a freak.:(

Nope, I understood. And I can relate. Just too many coals in the fire and decent optics, even iron sites, are 'spensive.

Just to tempt everyone a little more, PSA has a daily deal going till noon tomorrow 1/15/19, a basic nitride "Freedom" complete rfile kit for $259. That is about $100 cheaper than they sold for in 1969.

I got one of the Christmas special kits. $300 for the kit, 45 lower. I got a cheap adjustable gas block and muzzle brake. Into the rifle about $470 so far and have shot 200-300 rounds with no problems at all. I've said it before, but it's hard to go wrong at those prices.

Hard to beat for the price. Only bad luck I had was with the the PSA 308 AR.... my PSA reviews here:

Me too. But to their credit, they refunded my entire purchase price, made through a 3rd party, after I provided a receipt. I then bought a 2nd Gen for at least ½ the price as the prior. They literally took it in the ass for a customer. Me. I was just wanting a working upper and as evidenced by the 2nd Gen, it was better for them and their reputation to eat a fair sum of money instead of trying to "fix" the 1st Gen.. Takes balls to admit it was wrong, scrap it, and move on.

They got all of it and them some back (see above ?). And will continue too.

They also have competitive prices on many accessories especially ammo.

Have a PSA 224 upper. Shoots .75 moa with the cheap 75gr tmj. No issues.

Do you guys recommend their freedom upper or which is your preferred?

The CHF if you're willing to pay extra and it's in stock. They sell CHF for cheap. In a relative sense. At are often times out of stock on what you may want. got to grab it when it comes back in stock.

The cheaper barrels are decent by most accounts as well.

PSA has been GTG from the get. Several friends and myself have all built off PSA kits and none of us have ever had issues. Their CHF barrels are the way to go if available.

I built a basic rifle for my wife starting with a PSA upper. It was a special blem run they had last spring and for the price of a barrel I received a bonus upper & Magpul hardguard. for a beginner rifle it's been 100% reliable, and accurate enough with a MRO.

The Shooter app is really really helpful for keeping track of gun zeros and recording zeros like with 308 you might have zero settings recorded for 150sp, 168 tap and 175 fgmm. Also nice for switch barrel set ups

I wish Psa would bring back the aimpoint upper combos. You basically got a nice upper for free.

Have had zero problems with Psa uppers and complete ARs

Strelok Pro is Master Race....:devilish:

It’s their current introductory type stuff.
I used to only buy the FN CHF stuff from them but now after several of the Nitride kits with the premium BCGs I like them fine and they are a great value. I would look for a Nitride upper or kit.
What kind of accuracy do you get from the nitride mlok uppers?

I’m looking at getting a budget AR-15, AR-10 and maybe even a AR-9mm. They would be used for plinking mostly. Possibly hunting if they are up to the task.

I can’t seem to beat psa deals. I wanted to build for better accuracy but the psa deals are hard to pass up.

Can anyone share what kind of accuracy I could expect from the ar-15 or ar-10?

Since they are just plinkers I’m not to worried about accuracy. I can always upgrade later. I also don’t want terrible accuracy. If it’s not so great I will just build the uppers. Thanks!

So I have a few thousand rounds on this gun now and I've been extremely impressed for the money. It will occasionally have a failure to eject or short stroke or something, but I'm also shooting my bulk reloads which are on the lighter side of charge weight. I flog this rifle and it keeps putting up with it-- lots of days where I go through 300-500 rounds basically as fast as I can load mags and shoot. I haven't put a magnified optic on it so I can't say for accuracy very specifically, but I have a 2 MOA red dot on it and within 200yd if the red dot is on the target, it hits.

I am not a prepper my any means. But bought my first AR from PSA in the fall of 2015 as I did not believe that Trump would be elected. Then when the sales started I bought two more.

Sold and traded two of them after the election.

Have bought two more this year that are still unfired. All of them are the freedom kits with Magpul furniture. Where can you buy two AR's for less than a $1,000 and have money left over to buy 500 rds. of 5.56. {wait for holiday and weekend sales}

They are reliable and reasonably accurate.

I have an original GenI IWI Tavor with upgrades for sale if anyone is interested.

A couple years ago I bought enough stuff from them the sent me % off coupons. That happened twice. I don’t know if they still do that or not but it’s damn nice to see that they appreciated my business and for the price they are hard to beat for sure.

I'm totally in favor of it, but what's the point? Just a bunch in case they're banned? They all look reletively the same (all appear to be small frame, roughly the same bbl length, etc)

If have to ask, you wouldn't understand. :geek:

I have a disease. It's called BRD. I've sought help and I've been clean for nearly four years. But now I have a glass and bolt gun addiction. When will it all stop!

PSA is probably one of the best companies I’ve used to buy parts. Buddy of mine has a full rifle from them with a binary trigger and it runs no problem every time. The amount of times we’ve dumped with the rifle it’s kind of a no brainer to send people towards them for their entry to the AR world, not saying old timers couldn’t get their money’s worth from them either!

PSA has some of the best mil-spec parts on the market while at the best price. I bought a PSA BCG for 50 bucks during a sale, and it is more robust and better-machined than my ~100 dollar BCG from another brand. I am really impressed by PSA.

Price vs Product PSA is a good deal. With that being said they are not the best, and they dont claim to be. Also mil spec is a minimal requirement in materials, size exc.. Not all mil spec parts will preform the same, this is where great companies shine and others don’t get contracts.

I had been building/buying Uppers over several years and came to the realization that I had 7 Uppers and 2 Lowers. So; this past Summer, I made a couple of purchases, one PA-10 Lower, one PA-10 Upper, and three PA-15 Lowers. It was a very economical solution bringing some practicality into my approach to owning a small herd of AR's.

All of the PA-15's and the PA-10 have been upgraded with the PSA Nickel Boron Two Stage Trigger, which has made a large improvement in ease of operating and accuracy. Also, all of my 6 Lowers now have Extended Bolt Release modifications; a personal preference and another operating simplification.

The PA-10 had a minor issue that was resolved with some help from other people here at SH. The PA-10 has been successfully function tested, and will be sighted in and begin load development in the next few outings. I like it a lot. It has a Bushnell AR Optic Drop Zone BDC 308 scope mounted.

The PA-15's are paired with AR Stoner sourced Uppers; a 5.56 16" lightweight (M4gery), and a pair of 6.5 Grendel heavy barrel Uppers, with 20" and 24" barrels. They are in load development and are the first priority on my project list. The Grendels are paired with Bushnell AR Drop Zone BDC 308 scopes as well, there being less than 3" trajectory deviation between my preferred 6.5G and .308 loads at 500yd. The M4gery uses a red dot scope.

The "PSA Option" is turning out to be the "Easy Button" in my project list, providing uniformity, simplicity, economy, and so far, a bunch of satisfaction.

I turned to PSA after taking the time to review Elfster's posts and videos here and on his site.

I suggest you try the same.

Greg
