the rcc sponsored some of the most pivotal scientists and discoveries in history and many are too wrapped up in dogma to see this part.
all religions are flawed because all men are flawed. no exception here, but they have done a lot of good without rogering any boys too.

i grew up catholic and i basically couldn't accept the dogma, but i appreciated the values and sense of community at our parish,
i was an alter boy and no i was not molested, however as noted elsewhere, i was not a particularly handsome child.
they almost kicked me out of catechism classes because i kept asking inconvenient questions.
like on absolution...which the church invented so rich people would pay for "salvation".
i told our teacher straight up that is it BS (and not Blessed Sacrament - the name of the parish). i said if you can confess the same sin and obtain absolution every time, it is straight up bullshit.

Maybe my perception :::Seems like a lot of Dems especially in government are Catholic. Maybe not practicing …I never did get that confessional deal….Seems like you do what you want then confess and then your good to go out and do it again…..🤔

Let me state that Im not defending religion. IIMHO religion, ALL religions, are distortions of truth, are dangerous, and best left the fuck alone. That has NO impact on the OP which would be relevant if it were Mr. Ed the horse speaking.

When the Pope blessed Pelosi "Ms. Abortion" tells me the church is just like the government where as the political elite can live off of abortion profits when the church preaches against it.

the pope is a fink, and even catholics know it (not that i can speak for them).
other lower cardinal levels have said otherwise.

You mean western section is much more into using Grinder than the eastern one?

Officials within the Vatican hierarchy have gone into panic following a new report that revealed a large number of priests in the United States and internationally using the gay dating app Grindr.

It's unfortunate, but there are child molesters in every walk of life. The tend to find away to be near children and to have power over them. Look at the Boy Scouts as another example or US gymnastics. Smaller churches have this shit too, but they are not large organizations like BSA or the RCC, so it doesn't make national news. It sucks and these people are sick, they should hang from the gallos.

the main point, i think, is that pedophilia is much more common than "we are led to believe by those that control the media" and we have to find out why. why are news stories about thousands of pedos being caught only found offshore? they aren't published by US controlled news media. why is that? also, trump put funding into operations specifically targeting human sex trafficking and deporting known sex offenders, and xiden stopped them. why? have you looked at his top appointments?

in nyc alone, there are thousands of teachers being paid to do nothing, because they cannot be allowed near children.
pretty sure they aren't all catholics.

Actually, the main point, is that this man had the balls to stand up and speak out about a serious problem, despite knowing that he will be attacked from many sides. All the rest about pedophilia is off track and not relevant to the topic.

That’s because not all Christian religions are the same and the Catholics are and have always been a cult. No where in the Christian bible can you find half of the shit they preach.

Foliow the science. Chromosomes and genitalia reveal gender. Not feelings.

    And I'm not even a Catholic. :)

mostly why luther broke away...besides the obvious bullshit of selling absolution only to those that could pay to have their sins "erased".
that said, i wouldn't call catholics cultists, but rather a large group of hypocrites that don't really believe all the bullshit.

i mean, how many catholics follow all the rules? not many i would gather...although there are some devout catholics.
pelosi and pedo joe cannot seriously be considered catholics, for example...just lying hypocrites.

    A little trivia.

as i mentioned in another thread, the rcc is as much a large real estate conglomerate (non-profit, lol) as a church.

Meh, I've represented the Archdiocese for twenty years (I am also not Catholic) in all their real estate dealings, and I can say with 100% certainty that they care less about their real estate holdings than that their parishes are strong and well led. Yes, they are one of the largest land owners on the planet, but that is simply because the church itself owns all their holy ground.

If all protestant churches were owned under a single umbrella it would dwarf the Catholic church.

I will add that I've also never seen them do anything unethical or unchristian in all the business dealings I've had with them. They hire actual experts to work for them rather than lay people trying to make it work, so the professionalism when dealing with them in night and day compared with most churches. In fact, I've seen them go way out of their way in both time and $$$ to help the small, protestant churches that have dealings with them.

Nothing to say about the pedo priests. That was a massive failing on so many levels it boggles the mind.

I'm a Catholic, and in my opinion so much of what people get upset about with the church they don't fully understand. Take for example the "paying for absolution" argument. I could be wrong, but my understanding is they are referring to the practice of the church granting indulgences. Paying for indulgences is not paying for absolution. Absolution is the forgiveness of sins that occurs during the Sacrament of Confession. You cannot buy absolution, ever. And no amount of indulgences granted changes whether a person will go to heaven or hell.

The church teaches that the forgiveness of sins and the effects of sin on the soul are two different things. If a person is not in a state of unforgiven mortal sin (a serious separation from God's will for us) they will go to Heaven. But they are still not READY for heaven. Choosing to sin has consequences, it affects our very nature of who we are. Being truly sorry for our sins and accepting God's forgiveness and mercy does not yet make one a saint.

Purgatory is where, according to the church, these sinful aspects of who we are are burned away by the fire of Gods love for us, and our love for him. Its an experience where we realize how much our sins wounded God, and our desire for sin is burned away. I've also heard theories that we might experience the pain our sins caused others so we can understand the damage it causes. Maybe? IDK. But this experience is referred to as temporal punishment by the church. This is what the church teaches that indulgences can lessen for a soul. Indulgences are generally granted for things such as saying certain prayers frequently, attending mass and the sacraments on certain days, acts of charity, etc. These are all things that, when done with the proper motives, improve a person's holiness.

It is not a magic formula for getting to heaven faster. A person can't be an asshole, give away a bunch of money to the church or any charity to buy an indulgence, and think they've accomplished anything. That's not how it works. I suspect that indulgences were designed to get people to understand that we should be striving for greater holiness always, and gave them recognized ways to do that. I also believe that the practice got out of hand because many people wanted to complete holiness checklists rather than actually be holy. I've seen this is people even today when it comes to indulgences.

Now did some priests abuse this practice in the middle ages? Quite possible, I would assume so. My point is only that the Catholic Church has never taught that you can buy salvation. It taught that charity is a practice that can improve one's holiness. Not forgive sins. So the argument that the Catholic Church is corrupt because it somehow extorted money from people in exchange for salvation isn't based on actual church teachings.
