Skid Plates: What happened to them

I posed a pic of my rifles with the triad style sniper skid plates and have gotten messages about what they are and where I got them. I had no idea they had all but disappeared. PRS is only getting bigger and bigger so I have to wonder what has replaced them for shooting off barricades? Seems like there is still a market for these skid plates.

i recently saw a very exceptional shooter using one at a local PRS match..it seemed to be a very useful adjunct in several different presentations. He seemed to favor that as well as a grippy surface larger bag game changer maybe..can't recall what he called it.

I have used them for years. Even before they were made commercially I made my own as years back there were no bags and you had to throw your rifle up on barricades and didn't want a hard on hard contact. I used foam and duct tape at first and then used the So Tech version made by Phil Hagos and then his own company's version. I know some are still out there. I like to keep the on the rifle as they don't hurt anything and can only help when needed.

Yeah, I’ve been using the ESC Skid pad for 1.5yrs Was using the Triad Tactical Sniper Skid plate for few years prior. Like this version a lot better. Easy to come off and on with velcro vs the laced up sniper skid plate.

Those are the ones first made by Phil for SO Tech and then he sold them. Those are the ones I have and in the pic above. Held on by Velcro. I think it was around 2007 when I started using them.

I'll second what @NoLegs24 said about the ESC Dynamic Gittings pad. It's the ticket. A bit more padding than a traditional "skid pad", the "wings" help it stay upright, it grips bags well and it comes off easy with velcro.

I like the look of those. I wonder how it would work on a Manners PRS stock? They have a slimmer forend like a chassis style which it looks like the ESC is made for.

For a precision rifle, its nice to have a spot on the rifle that is non-skid. That said, it gets a tad bulky for a faster handling carbine, which is why I took it off the below rifle.

Whenever I can get a bolt rifle, it will go on there.

Triad Tactical skid pad 0n 16" LaRue OBR ; replaced original cord with 550 elastic cord. Don't like bulky knots so tension set and secured with aluminum fishing tackle sleeves then aluminum black applied. F&^$king Butler caps shown have been replaced with Aadmount's and Harris-KMW with Atlas.

they got bigger

I made a little bag for mine. Filled with bean bag styrofoam pellets, so it weights almost nothing. I think a lot of people are shifting towards arca plates.

That ESC pad looks very interesting. I would much prefer that over something big and bulky like the rail changer.

Yeah, they're meant for 1.5" width (Dovetail wide spec). I am sure if you want a custom width/ length, they won't hesistate to make it for you.

@Bear9350 Yeah, I'm not gay enough yet, to rock any of those plates on my rifles....

Forend on the PRS1 is only about 1.8" so it might work.

I’ve got a rubber pad Velcro’s to my stock, but I like the look of the ESC because it has some extra padding in there.

That’s what I’ve got now. It’s alright. I find the barricade stop gets in the way as much as anything, but it’s an economical solution. I’m curious if the extra padding of the ESC makes it easier to shoot off barricades with.

I have people ask me where I got this one often and truth is I dont remember but it’s thin and padded and has been awesome for shooting off the window or mirror.

Not that I'm aware of. I'd recommend a GrayOps mini plate pro with the attached flat bag, that's what I use now. The bag clips onto the plate securely and isn't going to fall off the rifle or the plate.
