Bought an American Air Arms Evol mini 22. The most expensive rifle I own is now officially a pellet gun lol. Plenty of JSB diabolo jumbos in stock though! Look at these chrono numbers and the test target they sent.

Wow 20 whole yards? It most have a monster scope on it…….😂
It’s got the latest Hawke, 1” tubeeven got the big side wheel lol. Yeah yeah I know 20 yards, but I can’t touch that group with my R9 springer. I actually ended up putting my old SWFA SS 3-15 on it. Focuses down to 6 meters so I thought it would be appropriate. I did swap the stock out for a Magpul STR with just a little longer LOP and the grip for a b5, which is a little more vertical. I will post pics a little while later.

Fuck me that shit is high dollar, God damn spare magazine is $98. Pellets are priced about where .22lr should be.

For that kind of coin coulda had a vudoo
So this is an interesting point. I’ve never handled one but the voodoo is super nice. I have several nice rimfire, but not that nice. They’ll do though.

The purpose of getting set up to run air rifles though was centered around two things: 1. Cost/availability of projectiles. 2. Ability to hunt small game discreetly. If we end up in a survival situation, I don’t want to draw any attention to myself popping a squirrel. We’ll see if I like it or not.

Any thoughts to how you are going to charge it? Did you buy a compressor too?

Love the leshy.

Airguns are a blast. Need to get done pictures after my phone was destroyed.

RedWolf 22
EdGun R5m
Daystate mk3
Theoben mk2

All great guns that are rather pricey, but ammo is cheap and easy to find. And they work great for backyard pest control

I fill my pcp with a high pressure scuba tank works great.
This works if you have scuba shops around that will fill them

I use a high pressure hand pump but my PCP gun has a small tank — air arms S500 is the model I believe — gets about 30 full power shots before needing air

I have been eyeing the FX wildcat bullpup lately but I would need a new air source for that — can’t seem to find one in stock anywhere either

Buy a compressor if you plan on shooting a lot. It really cuts down on the pumping and fatigue to fill a bottle or gun. Have two large fire fighter SCBA tanks that I use. One is a tank for my backpack and the other, the larger one, I leave in my truck.

Break down and get a pump...they are worth their weight in gold

You did my Magpul bipod 45* mod?
Was that yours?!?!! I remember reading a post on here about doing it not long after the Magpul came out. It’s been a long time ago but it was sure the inspiration for my trying.

How did you do yours? I did mine in a mill with a DRO. I used and edge finder to locate the center of the leg eye and then went the same distance from there at a 45 degree angle that the factory cut at a 90. I just used an end mill with the same radius as the factory notch. Link your post if you can. I have several more to do. If I like your method better I may use it instead. Thanks for the inspiration. 👍🏻

I got a few of the Impacts. They are great guns. Only things I don't like is the POI can shift with them and they can be a little fragile with all of the parts that are in them.

Interesting, how and why on the POI shift, random? Not trying to thread drift too much just curious.

I think it is the thin barrel liner in the Impact. That and along with the way the barrel is held into the gun. I used carbon fiber tubes to stiffen up the barrel and that helped a lot. FX now offers those to help increase accuracy.
The American Air Arms guns have tenson barrels in them. I can unscrew the barrel and put it back on and the POI doesn't change a noticeable amount.

My method was much less sophisticated 😆

Used an end mill in the drill press with a clamped together fixture.

They are expensive at first. But once you have everything then it is very inexpensive. Pellets and slugs are very cheap. And you can still get them.

Have been drooling over the slayers for a while, but still can't stomach swinging that much cash in one go. Would love one for deer hunting here in my state.

Yep what Drumie said. Few airguns are built sturdy so POI shifts are a common problem. It's just the mind set of the airgun community that are more so hunters and want lightweight guns, plus most are simply not going to spend a bunch of money on a airgun, therefore that's what the manufacturers cater to. Some Co's are building more sturdy platforms nowadays like AAA for one. The old MAC1 USFT is way over built and a super simple design so it's very rugged as far as airguns go, well except for the thin barrel. It does have a thicker receiver than most firearms though and a free floated match barrel. I have a Thomas HPX that is very solidly built as well.

There is huge difference at farther distances with an airgun using slugs vs using pellets! BUT you must have the proper barrel, twist, etc, to accomidate slugs or you won't have a satisfactory experience. Slugs are cast lead bullets or swaged lead bullets. Though slugs are generally going slower than 22rf, and usually have a lower BC than 22rf, they can do quite well pretty far out. Except for wind drift, because of the low BC/.072, 25 cal, 29gr slugs, that I use, these still put in groups equal to my expensive 22rf with match ammo in low winds at 200Y. It's cool because I can shoot these on my property and in the FS bordering my property legally.
I actually out shot my friend at 300Y a couple weeks ago with my Uragan King PCP vs his Anschutz 22rf with match ammo. Part of that is the low ES that airguns can have, mine does around 10 fps ES.

Thank you and @Drumie for the equipment and ballistics information. FX is offering a carbon fiber barrel shroud with a built in tuner, do either of you think this would be a worthwhile upgrade?
