2 oil tankers damaged in suspected attack in the Gulf of Oman, crew evacuated

Two oil tankers were damaged in a suspected attack off the Gulf of Oman early Thursday, according to multiple reports.
The U.S. Navy's Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet told Reuters it was assisting two tankers in the Gulf of Oman after receiving two distress calls. Details of the incident were unclear, but one of the operators made an unconfirmed report that a torpedo had hit its ship, Reuters reported.
"We are aware of the reported attack on tankers in the Gulf of Oman. U.S. Naval Forces in the region received two separate distress calls at 6:12 a.m. local time and a second one at 7:00 a.m.,'' Joshua Frey of the Fifth Fleet said. The Fleet did not blame anyone for the attack.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations -- an arm of the British Navy -- had put out an alert earlier and urged "extreme caution" amid U.S.-Iran tensions.
The incident comes as Iranian media claimed — without offering any evidence — that two oil tankers had been targeted in the area.
The area is near the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route through which 20 percent of global oil consumption passes from Middle East producers. Benchmark Brent crude, in apparent reaction to the incident, rose its prices by 3.4% on Thursday.
Dryad Global, a maritime intelligence firm, identified one of the vessels involved as the MT Front Altair a Marshall Islands-flagged crude oil tanker. The vessel was "on fire and adrift," Dryad added.

International Tanker Management, which operates the MT Front Altair said an explosion had caused a fire onboard. The firm told the Associated Press the incident is still being investigated and it was unclear what caused the explosion. Its 23 crew members were evacuated by the nearby Hyundai Dubai Vessel and are now safe, the firm said.
The other vessel, the Panama-flagged Kokuka Courageous, sustained damage on its hull starboard side, said BSM Ship Management. 21 sailors were evacuated, and one was slightly injured, four shipping and trade sources said.

Iranian state television reported that 44 sailors were transferred to an Iranian port in the southern province of Hormozgan.
Thursday's incident comes a month after the U.S. accused Iran of attacking ships off the coast of United Arab Emirates.
The timing of Thursday's incident was especially sensitive as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was visiting Iran as an interlocutor for President Donald Trump to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran.

On Wednesday, after talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Abe warned that any "accidental conflict" amid heightened tensions between Iran and the U.S. must be avoided at all costs.
While meeting with Abe on Thursday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that while Tehran doesn't want an atomic bomb, "America could not do anything" to stop Iran if it did.
Khamenei was quoted earlier saying that Iran "will in no way repeat" negotiations with the U.S. amid tension over its unraveling nuclear deal with world powers.

And of course now they say "there's goes oil prices". Again? How long before we see this at the pumps? Watch.

A rag head is going to do what a rag head does,... but,.... could this be something else to keep the ball rolling? I remember the Tonken Gulf cluster fuck. How long would have the V/N war gone on an fueled the MIC, if there were not protests or Kent State events???

That war was was dragged out longer because of the lack of public support. Public support was lost primarily for two reasons. First, it was the first war to to have graphic uncensored material televised into the living rooms of America. The general public and especially the soldiers parents don't have the stomach for heinous nature of war. And all wars are, btw. Second was the hippie, free love protesters. That war was a debacle. I grew up watching it and knew lots of soldiers that fought in it. Just don't kid yourself thinking that the protest shortened that war. In fear of public and world opinion we had politicians running the war trying more to appease the press than win the war. Instead they should have had the military leaders do what they wanted. Many men who served there will tell you, you can't win a war with one hand tied behind your back. Some of the same even believe that it could have been won. This from men that were there. Personally I don't think it was winnable but the conclusion might have come sooner if we were fully committed. Thus saving lives. The protesters only drew out that war only causing more casualties. Then they had the nerve to spit on and call the returning vets baby killers. IMO it was America's lowest moment.

    Hi,

Time to send the forensic explosive experts in for investigation. Will be pretty easy to determine if was torpedo, mine or any other delivery device.

IF it was indeed a submarine the USN already knows that....it is not like they do not monitor that area 100% of the time.

The chances of it being delivered via small craft type is also pretty slim, Saudi and UAE both operate the Archangel COIN aircraft on a 24/7 rotation in that area also.

Also keep in mind the Missile Mine......it would mimic an actual torpedo attack but does not require a submarine to launch it. It sits idle in water until armed/activated like a mine.

    Sincerely,
    Theis

Not only that but a single AEGIS can almost track every contact in the whole Gulf. If it was a small craft there would be unequivocal evidence. My guess what this was a test run of their diesel subs. Keeping the sea lanes open for trade is near the top of the primary missions of our Navy. This is WHY we have a Navy, so some fucktards like this can't threaten global trade.

If we determine it was them we should sink every military vessel Iran owns, and blow up any shipyards they have.

All I can say about this situation, is that whatever 'nation-state' is behind this (ya'll know that there IS one) then Desert Storm II should take place. 1 week of carpet-bombing, maybe 10 days..... and done. ABSOLUTELY DECIMATE the enemy, its infrastructure, its leadership... everything.

    Leave nothing but debris.

Simply because, everything else that has been done HASN'T worked.

Forensic experts !? As if the culprit is not predetermined ?

Remember when Trump was duped into bombing Syria? Forensic experts said attack was staged but report was suppresed and blame dully assigned.

You need to re-read your history while removing the lies you think are true. Who was the biggest proponent of the war an was a leading MIC supporter? He also had huge stocks invested in same. BTW he's the same guy who raided the SS trust fund to invest/fund in the war. I was not a protester although knowing what I know now, I would have never, held my hand up an said send me.

OP,... sorry for the derail but the truth has to be told or the lies keep spreading,...

I know you like to fall for the first ball. Not bothering to read or think for that mater. I guess anyone not following that line is conisdered anti american conspiracy theorist.

Its no conspiracy theory its an report by OPCW technical team that inspected the site on ground in Syria , report more or less says chemical attack was staged . Same organisation under intense political pressue suppresed this report and dully assigned blame for attack on Assad and co. OPCW aknowledged its authentic.

Don't you ever get tired of falling for lies over and over again?

*Ancestors did not hide in the cellars to be liberated ,they first fought Nazis when these were still considered ubercool over the pond the and the no.1 shit show of the time was played out in Spain, but they did have to hide ocassional shot down bomber crew member and smuggle them trough enemy lines in 1944. No allied troops (neither British,American or Russian) liberated anyone here.

You do not need to take any news org ,seriously , the ones you do don't even report when not oprotune, but i attached OPCW report that was authenticated by OPCW and clearly states attacks were staged.
Can post other links but much of MSM was muted on it. https://www.independent.co.uk/voice...-video-conspiracy-theory-russia-a8927116.html

I dont know what its the case with Kalashnikov USA ,but i think company X ,would consider unrelated company named ''X USA '' ,making own products in US and selling them under such brand theft of IP .

No. Just you. When you grow up you'll find that things are as they seem 99% of the time. To you everything is a conspiracy theory. There is a pattern see, and you post the same conspiracy theory, anti-American shit every time from the most dubious left wing news sources while stating that Fox News is has biased news coverage because they host conservative opinion shows.

Assad has chemical weapons. It's well documented he uses them on his own citizens. This bullshit "report" (more like propaganda) does not refute there was a chemical attack. It puts forth a conspiracy theory based on thin evidence and it wasn't reported because it's bullshit, not because it is suppressed. Pretending it's not political don't hunt.

Two separate attacks in the vicinity of Iran on the same day? You're just a blinkered idiot who will believe anything that supports your predetermined position.

You must be French. Lol Nevermind they're a freaking joke. They go both ways. Any which way they don't have to fight. Look at the Vichy French. If it wasn't for the US and UK forces mainland France would be speaking German or Russian. Most likely Russian. There's no way EVER they were going to liberate themselves. Talk about believing lies.

I think the gulf states including the saudis should declare war on Iran and we should sell old weapons to both. Then sit back and cheer them on.
I think we did that already. Lol

Yemen is pretty much proof the war has already started. This isn't merely regional though. The whole Far East relies on that little straight to get them energy. This is probably one area where the US and China can work together. I have a feeling they're not amused being cut off from Saudi oil, and I doubt they'll risk buying Iranian.

If it was a sub I would bet it was very quickly on the bottom permanently. Iran can't admit we sank it and we won't tell. If it is not on the bottom, then we suck.

Iran loves the Sadaf-01 and -02 mines.
They almost sunk the Samuel B Roberts with one.

    Very simple, contact mine.
There is no difference between the typical explosives found in a mine and that found in a torpedo as far as differentiating between the two.
For example our MK 46 torpedo uses PBXN 103 as well as the MK 65 underwater mine.

Nope i am not French . Like said no alied army fought on our turf only alied AF ,that should narrow down the options considerably. I realy cant get at how you came to asume i am French.

Frence last i heard was 'liberated' by Allies and half of the plebs were quite content under Adolph for most of the war and even when it came to fighting in France , african cannon foder was prefered Free French (what an irony) ,it seems only thing that realy upset the French was all the pussy Germans got while they were in charge (hence all the slut shaming post liberation)

''Moroccans estimate that 1,700 of their countrymen participated in the D-Day invasion as part of the Free French Army. This only hints at the scale of North African participation in Allied fighting.

The majority of the French army in North Africa in 1939 and 1940 were Arabs. In the French defeat of June 1940, about 5,400 Arab soldiers were killed fighting on the Allied side, and an estimated 60,000 Algerians, 18,000 Moroccans, 12,000 Tunisians and 90,000 other Muslims were captured by the Germans. It has been estimated that 233,000 North African Muslims were serving in the Free French Army in 1944, and that about 52 per cent of all its troops killed during the final year of the war were Muslims, mostly from North Africa. Some 40,000 North Africans are estimated to have given their lives in fighting for the liberation of Europe in 1944-45.

Not all incidents involving North African troops were glorious, of course. Atrocities in the war took place on all sides and all fronts, and it’s true that Moroccan forces played a major role in mass rapes of Italian women and killing of Italian men following the bitter Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944. The atrocity is still remembered as the “Marocchinate”.

Just something to keep in mind, from one of the document dumps we learned the Saudis have been like begging and pleading and cajoling the USA for years to please, pretty please go take our our religious rivals because we don't actually have the ability to & don't want to spend the cost in treasure & lives.

There is at least 2 major players in the sand box that are our "Allies" that really would like US to take care of Iran for them and pay for it in more billions of dollars and american lives, so they can sit back and be all happy.

So while the Iranians may do some stuff, you just want to make sure before committing to billions of dollars of cost and however many USA lives lost, that your casus belli is actually done by the Iranians and not some of your "allies"... you know, just in case.... there have been stories about one of our Allies back a long time ago having "accidentally" attacked one of our ships hoping to make us think it was their enemies that did it and get us to help out directly... (Of course the official story from everyone, is tragic accident, and mistaken identification, but questions still remain.)

    Theis,
That's why the 2% rule is so important.

In the USAF we said you have to be at least 2% smarter than whatever you're fucking with.

In this case, it would apply to reading or common sense.
He's 3% shy of the required common sense.

I saw a slide of the one ship's damage from the air and it screamed torpedo; especially the location in relation to the length of the hull. It was basically a center of mass shot/hit.

We know Iran has an entire navy of shit tier torpedo boats and the proximity to Iran makes it almost obvious as to who did it, but......why?

What would Iran gain by torpedoing 2 merchant/tanker ships flying flags from random countries? It doesn't make sense at all.

    - So much traffic flows through the Straight that even with this happening, the traffic isn't going to slow down at all. There's hundreds of billions of dollars on the line here; you'd need a full scale war to slow the traffic down.

    - The attacks were random and aimed at really no one in specific. Nothing more meaningless as far as sending a message or trying to deter something than......doing random shit, for a random reason and then not saying anything? What?

    - The response will be simple; there's going to be a shit ton more war ships in the area that can monitor sub and surface activity. You've basically now just asked to be monitored all the time which will greatly hinder any firther, random shennanigans. Again, makes zero sense.

    - Ships are nowhere near territorial waters, so there won't be a claim of 'you were warned' or 'they were coming straight at us!!!'

    Makes zero sense.

Many influence mines, especially magnetic will detonate very close to the center of the ship.
That said, they have subs, they also have a large fleet of boghammar's that they can talk some zealot into driving into the side of the ship.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boghammar

thats what I was thinking. Iran has a history of using them in the past.
    So has CIA

Which ever way you turn it there are number of players that want US to take on Iran , if we skip the Chickenhawks and MIC , no1 and no2 are Israel and Saudi Arabia .
GCC and Saudi Kabal know they can't take on Iran on thier own. They can hire mercs from Sudan to Pakistan to fight protesters at home and a low level insurgency in Yemen ,but not for full blown war. Lets not forget why US troops are in the Gulf , because GCC shat their pants when Sadam was around.

Torpedo attack is unlikely , easyest is to drop mines of civilian vessels and hope for a resoult ,hard to catch in the act,but honestly Iran can hardly gain anything by going to war it will loose. No rationale for that . Most likely a third party trying to get war started. Could even be the new pet Iranians --> courrent terrorists of choice for use in the gulf are the Iranian Mojahedin-e-Khalq

My most real concern is about what happens when the US actively intervenes on Iranian soil.

The Mexican Border is arterially bleeding infiltrators. I believe a very significant number of them, over many years, have been Republican Guard sleeper agents with relatives back in Iran under Republican Guard guns.

The Cochise Stronghold is visible three seven miles from my home; and we know for a fact that the Campground, closed for Summer fire season, is currently being actively used by Drug Mules.

God know who else is up there.

The sleepers get to naturalize, own the BoR, and arm up legally, just the same as you, me, and Army Jerry.

Drop anything on Iran, and watch the beehive swarm.

Not messin', just guessin', mind you...

Iranian vessel removed unexploded mine from stricken oil tanker in Gulf of Oman, US officials say

An Iranian vessel removed an unexploded mine that had been attached to a Japanese-owned oil tanker which suffered serious damage after an explosion in the Gulf of Oman early Thursday, U.S. officials told Fox News, as the U.S. Navy released video purportedly showing the incident.

The imagery came from the USS Bainbridge, a guided-missile destroyer which rescued 21 sailors from the stricken tanker.

At least one other mine attached to tanker's hull detonated, causing the blast. It happened near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil shipments in the region.

Two oil tankers targeted near Strait of HormuzVideo
A U.S. official told Fox News an Iranian gunboat approached the Kokuka Courageous later in the day and removed the unexploded triangular-shaped limpet mine, the same type of mine used to damage four other tankers in the Gulf of Oman last month.

The official, who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive information, said the suspected Iranian vessel did not bear any flags, nor did the crew members wear any uniforms. But, the class of vessel, what the U.S. military has called a fast inshore attack craft (FIAC), was the same type of ship used by Iran to harass American warships in the Persian Gulf in recent years.

Other Iranian small boats have remained near the stricken oil tanker since the attack early Thursday, the official added.

IRAN RESPONSIBLE FOR 'BLATANT ASSAULT' ON OIL TANKERS, POMPEO SAYS

The official said the order to abandon ship was given after the tanker's captain spotted the unexploded mine, not because of the fire aboard the ship.

Another tanker, a Norwegian-owned vessel called the Front Altair, also was attacked in the Gulf of Oman Thursday. Its crew was being held in Iran, according to U.S. officials.

"This is what we’re out here for," Cmdr. M. Kathryn Devin, the USS Bainbridge's commanding officer, said of the rescues. "Our mission is to ensure maritime safety and to answer the call for aid when we can."

At the State Department on Thursday afternoon, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blamed Iran for the attacks on both oil tankers.

Iran's U.N. Mission said its government "categorically rejects" the U.S. claim that it was responsible for the attacks and condemned it "in the strongest possible terms."
