Did I see correctly the part when the "shooter" was being harassed that he fired a round into the ground directly below himself? Was this to distract his aggressors? Or an accident discharge? Couldn't you frag yourself on loose rocks, metal decking or concrete? Just wondering?? Too crazy for me, but I get it.

Pretty sure that was an ad.

And yes you can frag yourself, don’t ask me how I know that.

I seem to recall one Sonny P. that took this sort of training to reality in a shoothouse.... with a poor result.

Nothing wrong with training how you fight or intend to fight.

How about during a training mission skid loaded people are on a hot INFIL, run forward (12 o'clock) of the helo landing uphill ending up with cranial contact to the rotor system to which OPS have to shut down until daylight to inspect the helo and all the other safety investigation things that need to be done.

How about during a real world mission helo pilots coming in so hot they land short to rip off the tail rotor.....Oh ...yea....we all saw that one on the news.

Poor Ranger mortar team guys with a mortar base plate on their back trying to fast rope 75' to the ground. They hold the rope all the way down either hit the ground just about square on the base plate, or land on the guy that's "too slow" to roll out the way.

There's a price to pay.....equipment or people.....it all gets paid for one way or another.

I remember reading a story where the Queen of England played hostage in a SAS live-fire exercise; bullets hitting the cardboard terrorists right next to her. Can't find thas particular story but this one sounds similar.

The apple shot (off his son's head) by William Tell is still a European metaphor for expert marksmanship and confidence.

I believe that the green berets had to train a group of Russia sf in the early 2000s when we took Afghanistan.

Advanced drill my ass. That's just doing stupid shit with firearms and calling it training. Impress the yankee.

I wonder how long it'll be before some Bubba winds up in the ER trying to mimic this shit. Russia and their speshul forses.

Was trying to find article 10-15 years ago.

Spoke about how many Russian SF guys die in training each year.

In didn’t say how /drill but was implied “friendly fire”, because they only use regular mil Ammo for all training.

During the USSR's day, about 10% casualties a year was acceptable in training. Think about that.

A lot of it was miscommunication, since most conscripts didn't speak Russian, so had no clue what their officers and senior NCO's were saying. Russian spans 14 time zones; there's a lot of different languages spoken there. Add to that, that conscripts were shipped to distant units for their service (so it was difficult to desert, and reinforced unit cohesion with other conscripts from the same area) and you have a recipe for some pretty high casualty numbers. I still remember that they trained with live nerve agents when we trained with CS...they weeded out the dumb ones pretty quickly.
