How does this happen?
If my understanding of the rule of governance are correct, once a first term POTUS gets the senate to not impeach, they can run for a third term. This means if POTUS plays right, not only will he win 2020, BUT he CAN run for 2024, a potential first in recent history.

I can't make this stuff up. It's IN THE RULES AND LAW for impeachment, if I read it all correctly.

How does this happen?
It can't and doesn't.

FDR was the first, and last 3 term President. It was because of him the 22nd Amendment was written. The most any President can serve now is 10 years.

If the vice president takes the office over from the president with 2 years or less left in the term, then he can run 2 more times. If he serves more than 2 years then he can only run once.

While I agree with you, we are looking at the last Republican(ish) president IMHO.
We shall see... they said that of Nixon.

they said that of Hoover, too.

and in 2009, said there won’t be another Republican President for decades... they were lost in the wilderness. Obama the chosen one would blaze a shining path for generations of Democrat Dear Leaders.

That worked out...

The Republicans are embracing a new zeitgeist of being willing to do combat against a left that has shown their true colors. They are becoming more Libertarian. And if 2020 gives them the house and Senste majorities I think it will, then they will reel in far more spending and stomp this globalism crap.

the world is getting tired of this one world shit. We are tribal and need to stay that way. Nationalism is good, to a degree.

we can be nationalistic and still good world citizens. Were we bad neighbors when we liberated Europe three times in a century? 1918, 1945 and 1989?

The direction is good.... I think we will stay on it. Even if we will skate on a river of cold, frozen liberal tears!

there would have to be a war to keep him in office and not a short one but like ww2 sized .If the vote could not be held he could stay in power till one could be held no way the dims would not freak out over that thought .

Potential for this- only way I can see "full" terms circumventing the 22nd would be he serves 2 terms, Pence wins and Puts Trump as VP, then resigns after taking office. Technicality to ride the line in for a 3Rd term. I dont argure Trump is the best we've had in a Looong while, but I agree 2 terms is plenty. We should be grooming the next even better Potus that we can offer up from we the people. Someone deeply pro 2A, with all the pissed and vinegar to get things done in the mess we call .gov. Someone to groin kick the enemies of the Constitution; Foreign if they dare, and domestic for what they have dared. A mix of small government Coolidge, tenacity of Trump, balls of Roosevelt, Spirit of Washington, handle of Jefferson, words of Madison- Shit. Fine. Trump 2024, with Chuck Norris as VP.

All elected positions should have term limits set at two. Regardless of how anyone feels about trump, no one should want to see a 3rd term.

Also, if he isn’t re-elected (or doesn’t get a 3rd term lol), it won’t be the end of the Republican Party. Although, if they pull that 2016 bullshit again, they might go the way of the Democrats and just destroy their party from within.

I disagree. There should be no term limits on the presidency if there are none in the congress.

The vote is the term limit.
That's working out well....?. Congress and Senate.... 2 and out...no auto retirement and the same health care the rest of us get on their dime....

We all favor term limits for those we dislike. I cannot even fathom what a congress would accomplish if attrition would roll over membership so quickly. The same districts are going to put forth the same caliber piles of shit they do now. Need not look any farther than aoc, and how or why was she elected. Or cummings wife running for his seat, that's step forward.
We have had some great voices of reason from both sides over the years.
The failure to identify, publicize, and correct corruption, misuses of power and abuses falls back on US citizens.
I'd say the majority of our country disregards Nixon, by todays standards, he was a peach,

The 12th Amendment states that: "But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States".

The only legal loophole way to be President for a third term is, run for the House of Representatives AFTER you are out of the Presidency, achieve Speaker of the House, THEN have BOTH the President and Vice-President die, or otherwise removed from office.
