Are you sullen and depressed that you’ve never received a visit from a bunch of well-dressed, humor-deprived Alphabet Soup types?

Well, fret no longer! Here is your golden ticket to .GOV notoriety! Today’s temptation of forbidden fruit on eBay:

Notice the location — dead smack in the middle of not one, not two, but THREE different .MIL bases! No accessories, and no mention of any release paperwork!

I’ll bet there’s even a good backstory to how he got it and why there’s no fear of seizure.

Now’s your chance, fellas, to enter the exciting world of Uncle Sugar’s Missing Toy Hunt!

had a laser rangefinder delivered to me at work. we went outside and lazed buildings near and far. with all the govcon around, hoped i wasn't going to get a visit.

He has 2 positive feedback (as a buyer)... I'm sure this is fine.

    apparently it's sold....

They’ll go to the buyer(s) and seize the unit(s). They’ll take the buyer’s statement. Then they’ll visit the seller and backtrack the provenance of both units (and anything else he may have in his possession or has sold elsewhere).

If he’s .MIL or somehow the source of the leak, he’s in for an interesting time.

Hopefully, the buyer paid via a method with some protections and he can get his money back.

So an unknowing buyer is getting their door kicked down? That's cool.

Well they won't kick his door down or shoot his dog. And while at first this seems like a bad thing to involve authorities, Horta probably just saved the guy 4 grand by reporting it while he can still dispute the charges and while the paper trail is still fresh.

That's a very cool way to lose $6,000 you'll never get back. At least the fucking is gentle.

That’s why these guys need to be stomped out. There are few people, if any, who have lost more than I have — and I had the assurance of actual .MIL dudes that the gear I was buying was legit, only to discover later that they were in on the fraud.

I need to print up a T-shirt that says “I watched $300K walk away from me and all I got was this lousy receipt!”

Oh snap! Word is out... CID is apparently very interested in this. Report is a bunch of Oasys Demil-D stuff has gone missing. Of course it’s in Colorado... yet again!

Shit just got interesting! If you see any of this stuff around, it comes with lethal levels of radiation attached.

    Caveat emptor!

On a side note, Demil-D is just plain stupid for so many things. Weapons and really dangerous or classified stuff, sure... but for thermal and NV that’s just silly. Not condoning theft of “Gubmint Property”, but it’s a complete waste when they could probably recover 80-100% of the original value paid for many items selling it to we mere Civvies.

I guess it’s just easier for them, knowing the bureaucracy involved in Demiling.

That is a story that has to be wild! Would love to hear it!

Referred to as April 15 in my world😁That’s a hard learned life experience. Glad you are running interference and keeping someone else from falling into that hole. And more than likely someone who may not can recover from it. Thank you. That takes a bit of courage.

@TheHorta - any chance a gov contractor group might have this for sale?

    Just curious.

I know nothing about this kind of stuff. Like if the price is normal, if its only obtainable by .gov, or if deep pockets and .gov contracts all over the globe make it possible.

    Im here to learn.
I do know of some folks who meet above description down there who have boatloads of cool toys.

I’m very uneducated in regards to NV and thermal. Can someone explain to me why this particular unit is illegal while others are civilian friendly

That particular model is only available to the military, for all intents and purposes. Very few legit ones in the wild that are not stolen .mil property.

Uncle sugar gets VERY jealous if someone finger fucks his toys.

there are a couple different units that are not commercially available to civilians and 99.98% of the time the only way one walks into the civilian world is if someone took a toy out of the toy box

If these were purchased on a DoD contract, the sub will definetly be paying attention as to who has what as equipment (outside of armor and carriers) are generally a passthrough expense from the Prime. Once returned, the expense is reversed; therefore its in the best interest for contracting companies to keep good inventory and know that when Bob is in holding at Atterbury on his way back in from a OCONUS rotation, our rep there needs to make sure to get Bob's UTM and check it back in.

If sold from the Prime, they generally dont do it on ebay. SAIC isn't making an ebay account to sell 1 UTM. You'll usually find them on some GSA site in a batch, or more likely, they will just be sold to another contracting company who just got a MOD extention or a new contract or whatever.

Shit falls off the wagon all the time. Non inventory stuff like helmet mounts, lights, holsters, all sorts of shit. UTM? Not so much.

    Thanks @TheGerman. That makes sense.

Kinda like its easy to snag a couple syringes or some IV fluids from a hospital as a visitor, but pretty hard to cruise out with some Dilaudid, Fentanyl, or Propofol without taking major risk.
