‘Here I Am,’ Man Reportedly Says Before Bolt Strikes Him Dead

May 27, 1987
BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) _ A man standing in the stern of his new boat raised his hands, looked skyward and declared, ″Here I am,″ just before a lightning bolt struck him dead, authorities said.
Graves Thomas, a 40-year-old Shreveport attorney, died of electrocution on Memorial Day, forensic pathologist Dr. George McCormick said Tuesday.
There was no thunder, lightning or sign of lightning before the killer bolt struck, said Dan Rusell Jr., one of four friends in the boat with Thomas on Lake Bisteneau east of here Monday.
Thomas’ last words were reported by one of the four, said Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Hodges, but he refused to say which one.

Grew up near Black's Camp on Lake Bisteneau. Ran trot lines before school in my little Jon boat. Crazy weather was common, and the thing to do was immediately head for shore and shelter. FAAFO ;-)

Reactions: Srgt. Hulka

All the rich Mopar Dorks are standing in line shouting take my money.

I sent that to my SiL.

He replied back that the stealerships are planning to mark them up to $400k, not sure if he's serious...but I'm sure they will be marked up significantly over MSRP.

He has a wide body Challenger R/T Scat Pack 392.

I flew on a small commuter plan that landed exactly like that. I knew we were flying sideways as we approached the airport and it didn't bother me, but once we were above the runway, I said to myself; "Shit, planes don't land sideways."

I landed at LAX one time like that. I literally could see down the runway, looking out the window, as we were coming in. The wind was awful. When the pilot got the plane where he wanted it over the runway, he just slammed that SOB down. We hit the runway so hard, the plane bounced. As the plane came back up, it tipped, and I swear the wing tip was just a foot or two from hitting the runway. The pilot managed to get it back down, but I damn near shit my pants.
